Magical Girl animes...

FlamingRuby

The magic of Pokemon
What are some lesser known magical girl animes out there? I mean, Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew, Ojamajo Doremi, Pretty Cure...everyone knows those. I'm searching for some that aren't that well known to watch...any suggestions?

Miss Kanna

Hakudoshi Addicted
Magical Girl Pretty Sammy....

People nowdays don't understand the beauty of this show.Sasami was always the sweetie of the Tenchi Muyo series ;_;
Wedding Peach is another one..and than there's Mermaid Melody.trust me,I'm a shojo fanatic,I'd know XD

Medea

Excalibur
I would go with Tenchi Muyo, Sailor Moon, and Wedding Peach.

Oooooo, lesse.

Sugar Sugar Rune is an awesome anime/manga and one of my favorites. I'm a huge fan of MMMPP, TMM, etc. myself, so if you like those, you're sure to like this. ^^ It's also pretty clean content-wise incase you're wondering.

Some other magical girl animes are Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, Fushigiboshi no Futago Hime, Ultra Maniac, Cyber Team in Akihabara, Magical Lyrical Nanoha, Magical Canan, Dr. Rin ni Kiitemite!, Princess Knight, Minky Momo...

I better warn you though, the content of the listed titles varies greatly and if you don't like/can't handle certain things, you better look into them all first. Lyrical Nanoha is pretty cute for example, but the fourth episode I believe included a bunch of random fanservice, which, in my opinion, really killed the cute feel of everything else. ._.;

There are also some manga only magical girls, but unless you can get ahold of Nakayoshi, Ciao, etc. good luck with that. ^^; Otherwise if you can, you may enjoy stories such as MamaColle and Milky&Cute.

You took the words right out of my mouth! lol.

Though don't forget to watch the first magical girl series that started it all: Cutie Honey! By Nagi who legendary to starting many different genres like magical girl and mecha.

Hold on, the Go Nagai Cuteyhoney is NOT a shoujo anime.

The early Cuteyhoney is more of a hentai than a shoujo. Yes, it does feature lots of anime women, but they generally show them in compromising situations. However, Cuteyhoney F, is a shoujo series and was drawn by the Sailormoon animators.

Let's see...one of my fave early shoujo animes is Minky Momo. That's a real cute one there.

I also like "Futari wa Pretty Cure". It doesn't quite have the complexity of Sailormoon, but, I love Cure Black.

Another Magical girl anime is Magic Knight Rayearth. It does have elements of a more complex anime and eventually becomes less shoujo. Tenchi Muyo was never designed to be a shoujo anime, but Pretty Samy was.

Its still a magical girl series even if its not shoujo. It is a fact that he started the magical girl genre. Being Shoujo does not apply. It just that most magical girl series are shoujo. Cutie Honey was the first to start the genre of girl transforming hence magical girl, so it counts.

Oh and its not hentai despite its nudity. If you want a hentai series, then watch Black Bible. :p

Pretear.

Shoujo, magical girl, fits the bill to a T. However, it's really short--only 13 episodes(if I remember right), but never feels like it's rushing to its conclusion. There's backstory that is explained well and appropriately, and deep-seated reasons for why characters act as they do, and whether it's for good or for evil, they do it from the heart.

Give it a try. :D

I'm assuming FlamingRuby wants something a tad more kosher than Go Nagai's Cuteyhoney which features more hentai than the traditional "magical girl" style. The early Cuteyhoney is not something I would watch with a young child, whereas something like Pretty Cure, I would.

Another thing I would suggest is getting a hold of some of the anime musicals that many of the more popular shows produced. I've seen several of the Sailormoon(seramyu) musicals and I think they're rather well done. The 2003 version features the storyline that would have been used had Sailormoon progressed into a sixth season.

I doubt he's a young child. Whatever, I'm just giving him a series.

It not hentai as I said before. Ecchi? yes indeed. but not hentai.

To say it's NOT magical girl is stupid as Go Nagi IS the one who started the magical girl genre, despite's its "mature" theme.

I don't watch animes like that...

I've been researching you guy's suggestions....gave Sugar Sugar Rune a whirl, but the subbed episodes were in a format my computer couldn't handle.

I'd try it again if I could find a free MP4 converter and/or codec

(points to the above post)Your point seems rather moot, doesn't it, Clefairy?

Honestly, I've never cared for Sugar Sugar Rune. I've read the comics in Nakayoshi for over a year and the series is rather blah to me. I think it's the artistic style - I really don't care for it, especially in the highly stylized manga form.
If you're having problems downloading the anime, there's still the English version of the SugarSugar Rune manga, as well as buying fansubs.

He/she asked for A magical girl title. I gave one. End of the story. He/she doesn't want that title, ok? You prove nothing.

Forever learning!
Hmm... I watched a few episodes of Cyberteam in Akihabara some years ago. I liked it, but reviewers have ambivalent opinions about it. I still like to remember it, though(just for a nitpick, Megumi Hayashibara, who voices Jessie, plays the role of Tsubame). Others I know are Fancy Lala and Saint Tail. The first one is not really a magical girl anime, as it doesn't involve fighting bad guys or anything. I haven't seen much of the second, but is seems interesting. ;)

I don't remember more...

There is the whole love becomes destruction theme in the first season. But in the second season, it's more and more shoujo, with all the love going around. x_X
