Making the best of a bad shiny...

I have been obsessed with shiny's ever since I caught my first (a ditto that later got deleted along with the game). But for the next two games the only one I got was a shiny pelipper.

Funny how I used pelipper in my first Ruby team, but now I realize how bad he is. And because it's evolved I can't even give it agility...

Anyway, my point is that even though Pelipper is very bad, I still love my shiny and want it to be a... original, if not amazing battler. Hence I don't really want to go with the boring "ice beam/surf/toxic/protect" that basically just advertises "I'm a crap pokemon, all I can do is toxic stall!"

So I was looking at all the different possibilities for Pelipper. Obviously egg moves, hidden power (mine is ghost, lol), IV's and even nature are out of the question. I would've made it a special sweeper with agility and ice beam/shockwave/surf, but of course, no wingull = no agility.

So here are 3 possibilites I came up with. They're not the "best" movesets for pelipper and are somewhat risky, but I'd like to know which of them, if any, is the most effective. This isn't really for ingame, more for battle frontier and maybe surprising other players I battle.

Set 1:

Pelipper@[not sure for item]
Trait:Keen eye (pure crap, of course)
EVs: Not sure yet
Nature: Automatically lonely... damn
-Swagger/Icy wind
-Rain dance
-Surf
-Shockwave/Ice beam

Basically you send him in, swagger or icy wind on the switch, then rain dance and attempt to sweep. With icy wind, it'll hopefully slow down most pokemon so that they only get 1 hit on pelipper when it rain dances. With swagger, on the other hand, they might hit you twice when you rain dance (they're probably faster), or they might hit themselves both times and do nothing. But with 100 base defence you can probably take at least 1 swaggered attack that's not rock. Surf is powered up by rain dance, ice beam is for variety, while shock wave gets waters trying to take advantage of rain. Obviously this dies to electrics, so switch out or kill them first.

Set 2:

Pelipper@Salac berry/petaya berry
Trait:Keen eye
EVs: Not sure yet - probably speed
Nature: Lonely
-Icy wind
-Substitute
-Surf
-Shockwave/Ice beam

A slightly more reliable moveset. Icy wind on the switch, sub until you activate petaya/salac and attempt to sweep. Only really works on weakened stuff, petaya will probably allow it to kill the attacking pokemon, while salac gives it a chance at getting in an attack on the next one. Only good thing is that it can kill slower electrics that switch in... slow electrics, lol.

Set 3:

Pelipper@Salac berry/petaya berry
Trait:Keen eye
EVs: Not sure yet - probably speed
Nature: Lonely
-Swagger
-Substitute
-Surf
-Shockwave/Ice beam/Rain dance

Same idea, but relies alot more on luck. Swagger on the switch, and hope that your opponent a)hurts himself so you can get a sub up, b)is slower so you get a sub up, or c)doesn't kill you in one hit. If they hurt themselves more than once, though, you can set up a rain dance to power up surf. Usb to activate berry and sweep lamely. Still dies to electrics unless you're really, REALLY lucky.

Wow, pelipper is bad. It's special's ok but it's speed sucks, and I can't even get agility to fix that :(

Which of these movesets, if any, could have any use? Or if you have a better but still original/interesting moveset for pelipper, that'd be great to.

Of all the pokemon in all the seas... coulda been tentacool, zubat, spheal, even wingull...

Oh well, I just wanna make the best of a bad shiny. Thanks.

Don't bother with it.
I have 3 shiny Pokes that are just sitting in my PC because they have **** natures.

Here is hope for your Lonely Pelipper:

Pelipper@Choice Band
Lonely nature
Ev's 252 Attack/HP or Speed,6 HP or Speed

Aerial Ace
Steel Wing
Double-Edge/Return
Hydro Pump

Not that effective, but it still works In-Game!

Pelipper@Leftovers/Salac Berry
Lonely nature
Ev's 252 Sp.Attack/Attack,6 HP

Hydro Pump/Surf
Ice Beam
Aerial Ace
Steel Wing/Double-Edge/Return

Mixed Pelipper still works since it's In-Game!

Pelipper@Liechi Berry/Salac Berry
Lonely nature
Ev's 252 Attack/Speed,6 HP

Aerial Ace
Steel Wing
Double-Edge/Return
Hydro Pump

Baton Pass Attack and Speed to Pelipper, and it can still be great In-Game!

Pelipper@Petaya Berry/Salac Berry
Lonely nature
Ev's 252 Sp.Attack/HP or Speed,6 HP or Speed

Hydro Pump/Surf
Ice Beam
Substitute
Toxic

Just Ignore the Lonely nature, and focus in Sp.Attack!
This Pelipper should do Substitute first, and then Toxic, then sweep away with Hydro Pump/Surf and Ice Beam.

Thanks Shiny Mewtwo... I think I will end up using him only ingame after all (combine bad nature - poor pokemon - missing moves)

To others...

I care if it's shiny!!

Maybe I'll go with the last moveset, the sub/toxic/surf/ice beam with salac. I may replace toxic if I can find something else, but unless I can baton pass some speed I'll need salac berry.

Would icy wind work to slow down the switch-in or whatever so I can get subs up easier? (seeing as pelipper will likely be slower anyway)

lime_green_hero

The Dancing Cactus
I'd say use

Pelipper@leftovers
ice beam
shockwave
sub
surf/icy wind

It has a bolt-beam variation, so you might as well use it.

Nah,Icy Wind sucks!

Stick with the Movesets I gave you.

I guess you are using the Last Moveset for Pelipper, well, here are some tips:

And for the Final Moveset, you could replace Toxic with another move like Rest, but you will need a Chesto Berry attached to Pelipper.

If you Baton Pass Speed to Pelipper, then stick with the Petaya Berry.

What HP does it have?

Fun:

Pelipper@Nothing
Surf/Hydro Pump
Ice Beam
Shock Wave
Theif

I would normally put Lefties on it and have Twister/Pursuit/AgilityHP Special, but Theif will do ._.

It's got hidden power... ghost

And I obviously cannot get any egg moves, including *sigh* agility; plus, I got no baton passer to pass speed to him. So should I just use salac instead of petaya, then?

Also... what about swagger instead of toxic? (could hurt themselves and give me an extra sub). Pelipper's got good defence to survive even boosted non-SE attacks- oh wait, that's right, bad nature. DAMN.

Ah well... can swagger ever be good on anything?

Ninjask@Lum Berry/Liechi Berry
Jolly nature
Ev's 252 Attack/Speed,6 HP

Swords Dance
Protect/Substitute
Baton Pass
Aerial Ace/Silver Wind

Sub>>>protect IMO.

Well, I like ninjask well enough, so maybe I'll just train one up purely for the sake of supporting pelipper. Could go with a crazy attacking pelipper (?) with steel wing, aerial ace, etc; a choice-band sweeper (seeing as it has speed already) or just some kind of sub-berry, surf, ice beam, _, that can make use of the speed.

Well, thanks for the possible sets guys, still disappointed about pelipper but now I can make it actually good (well, sorta). At least I've got some better ideas about what to do now... and a ninjask to raise!

One last question: does choice band raise all attacks power by 1.5, or just non-special attacks? Hehe, choice band pelipper :p
