What a great episode. Loved it from start to finish. Piers was both hilarious and a badass, good on him for following the speed limit. Marnie was also shown off perfectly, I don’t care what anyone says.
Also Gengar was just awesome. Every move it made was great and keeping a good momentum during the whole fight was just too cool. The animation also helped a lot because everything was very fluid and dynamic. Ash and Marnie’s chemistry during the battle was intense and I really hope she shows up again because Ash and Goh completely confused by Marnie’s smile was absolutely hilarious.

Aaaand this marks the third time in a row people have complained about a battle. I am not sure if there is a problem with the writing or a problem with the community, though if I were to guess I would say a bit of both.

If you’re keeping tabs on peoples’ complaining you’re definitely not going to enjoy any show on its own. There’s always going to be complaining in any fanbase (a lot genuine but also a lot in bad faith or some people in reality just don’t enjoy the show conceptually.)

Very solid battle. I like that they gave Gengar not only one new move, but two. While Ash did rise to 15th place I'm still hoping he has another loss or two before Master Class

Please say he does, it would be great to see him struggle just before he gets there.

Very disappointing, but not surprising. C'mon bro, we have all that time for wacky fillers and goofing off, but no time to make this battle a two-parter? I'll cry if Marnie somehow manages to get less screen time than Hau lol.
The animation was not that great imo, and the only time they really splurged out was when Grimmsnarl dodged that ice dynamax move.

Dude, Journeys is already dead to many fans by now. It’s impossible for it to win at this point, so my advice is to judge it on your own merits and enjoy it without concern for what other people think.

There are literally tens of thousands of shows out there, if 50% of the time you think it’s trash it’s makes no sense to tune in every week. Why would anyone subject themselves to a series you think has bad writing, bad animation, and bad characters?

Marnie was done really dirty. She's so high in rank, and yet she barely gave Ash trouble. Maybe this was how the Bea battle was supposed to go if Ash didn't stupidly act like an idiot in the first half.
...But, since Journeys laughs at this kind of development, Marnie got severely demoted in quality.

You're missing the point for her role in the games. As the theme of the game was inheritance, Marnie embodied the one where she didn't really want to become a Gym Leader, despite her brother's wishes. She was also the normal rival who wasn't gung-ho-in-your-face as Hop (who truly believed he was meant to be a Champion just because of his brother) or a jackass-in-your-face as Bede (who believed he was meant to be a Champion just because he was raised to believe he was one and he had connections). The games were more character-driven than story-driven.

If everyone actually did like this show at once then something would definitely be wrong.
I did think the battle was interesting for a 1 v 1, nice to see Gengar finally get a huge win, figuratively and literally.
the alister cameo was nice, great to see him watching since he did help Gengar G-max.
Was not expecting sludge bomb, but that made me happy since it has moves for both it's main types, which is something i've always felt makes dual types more appealing in the show.

abit surprised they gave Marnie a Morpeko after all...but then again most probably didn't care for it.
don't got much to say about Ash's rank, hopefully though there will still be 2 more battles, 1 to put him at like rank 10-9 then another to gain entry into the masters 8

Pokémon kodomo anime for five-year-old children is objectively not a well written ; p show overall but I enjoy it heavily. The anime is keeping my interest afloat with how consistently meh a lot of the recent games have been (thank god for PLA; haven’t played yet but looking forward to it. But looks like we’re in for another meh Generation if they rush out Gen 9 this years : d)

To be fair, Ash is this high in rank in the tourney and...it's a freakin' Sirfetch'd-like 1-on-1.
Even if it's surely not going to happen, imagine if Leon's is the same somehow. Having a battle like this one just opens some dreadful possibilities.
