May has a variety of pokemon, but they are alot like Ashes. Don't get me wrong, she has some of her own pokemon i cant link to ash, but look at this.

She has a Torchic, which is a fire starter, and ash has a fire starter, but i will give her a break with that one cause she was just starting.

She has a Beautifly, which is the Hoenn version of Butterfree, which Ash had.

She has a Squirtle, and so does Ash.

She has a Bulbasaur, and so does Ash.

SHe has a Munchlax, which evolves into Snorlax, which Ash has.

DO you tink the writers purposly made her so much like Ash, or was it a coincidence, Or maybe they got lazy (haha i dought it)? What do you think?

First of all, as you said, Combusken doesn't count. Also, just because it's another butterfly doesn't mean it's a copy of Butterfree. And I could sort of agree on Munchlax, but not quite.

Now, it's not because the writers felt unoriginal/wanted May to copy Ash/whatever. It's because they're marketable Pokemon; they're popular Pokemon that everyone likes (the starters, etc.) and so they give it to the main characters. That's what they did with Ash during Kanto and Johto (he got ALL the starters of these regions). With the beginning of AG, they could focus more on making Ash's Pokemon cool/powerful, and be a bit original, because they had May to throw all the cute/popular Pokemon on her. That's why she got TWO Kanto starters, and Eevee, and even Munchlax (it was the first released fourth-generation Pokemon). The reason why May was left with many similar Pokemon was because they were popular Pokemon when Ash was the one to get the marketable Pokemon. Of course, you can't say so about Eevee and Snorlax.

It's called FR/LG advertising. Bulbasaur was femine, Squirtle was an infant.

While May has similarities to him in terms of naievete, she acts pretty much nothing like Ash otherwise.

She was not interested in starting her journey, she did not get excited to enter battles everytime she was asked, nor did she see a legendary Pokemon at the start of her journey.

If anything, Hikari is far more like a female Ash than May. Hikari's start mirrored Ash's quite a bit.

I think they totaly forgot put her munchlax sucks idk why Ash caught that Snorlax anyway...

And remember, somebody had to get the fire starter. (In fact, Ash's original starter wasn't even one of the original three.) Besides, you can't forget, Brock got a Mudkip, so if you were to count Torchic, then you should count Mudkip as well. Also... Yes, but Jessie got a Dustox, so it's not just May.

She has a Squirtle, and so does Ash.

Both are for advertising, particularly Bulbasaur. Still, I am disappointed that May got both a Bulbasaur and a Squirtle. Even though Squirtle is a baby, it's still a Squirtle. If Ash's Bulbasaur and May's Bulbasaur interracted more (like Pika and ChuChu from Pokemon Special), then I wouldn't mind as much.

Definately advertising. Of course, I'm VERY upset that May got Munchlax. Snorlax or not, she got it simply for advertisement as the original D/P mascot (and it's ugly too- but, that's just my opinion).

Most of it was advertising and the popularity of certain Pokemon. Of course, that doesn't mean I'm glad she has Bulbasaur, Munchlax, and Squirtle.

I'm just upset when more people find it okay to mention the similarities that May has with Ash (and anybody else) yet [SPOIL]it's not okay to mention Hikari's similarities.[/SPOIL] No offense.

Digging at the bottom of the barrel for this one, aren't we? Satoshi has TWO starting Fire-types. Neither of which are similar in any way to Haruka's starter. And Satoshi started with a PIKACHU. Haruka started with an ACHAMO. Two completely different Pokemon of two different types.

Which in no way battles in any way similar to Butterfree, nor does it act similar to it.

One is the leader of a squad of brave, firefighting Zenigame. The other's a cry baby that somehow manages to defeat opponents with little to no training. Big difference in characters.

She caught hers without knowing Satoshi had one, similar to Zenigame. Her Fushigidane is also significantly different from Satoshi's.

Bottom of the barrel again. You may as well say that Takeshi licking that Usoki was foreshadowing of him getting an Usohachi. Gonbe battles and acts differently from Kabigon. Again, captured without knowledge of Satoshi having a Kabigon.

You're looking too much into it. None of her Pokemon act or battle similarly to any of Satoshi's Pokemon.

Jeez I was just making fun of the thread by pointing out how May and Hikari have look-a-like starters. You dont have to take everything so seriously.

I know Hikari and May have never met.

I know that Torchic and Pochama are not the same kind of bird.

But jeez don't they look alike? Pochama is like Torchic's penguin counterpart.

Pochama and Torchic aren't very creative or original pokemon in my opinion. They're just birds with big heads.
