Okay, so on my very old file of Ruby, I cheated. I started a new game but did not do a factory reset. I caught two shinys and traded them both to Emerald. Will that infect my Emerald just because I cheated once upon a time on Ruby? Please help.

I couldn't see the cheating on an old save file that wasnt the direct trade game on another version effecting it in the least. although there has been some speculation as to the JAA testing.

Yeah, that's exactly why I'm asking. I really, really don't want to delete two shinys, but I don't want any risk either... If someone could give me a definate answer that would be really great.

If you caught the shinys legit, then there shouldn't be any reason that they'll be flagged as cheated, especially if they've been traded across versions. If you want a really deinate answer, i'd suggest asking a JAA official or something, nobody knows what mystical powers they use to determine teh Ch3atz!

Cheating can't "infect" a game if you trade to it, the worst it can do is stop you from trading a cheated Pokemon/item or mess up the cartridge you cheated on.

My precious!
first of all, why do you cheat?

I agree with Liam-kun why did you cheat for shinies because you had bad luck of finding shinies

You guys misunderstood. They cheated on the game but found the shinies legitimately. They're afraid that by cheating, they marked their game so that their legitimate shinies might be marked as cheats. Right?

Yes, amulekbird, you're correct. I cheated on a past save file, deleted it, and on a new file found the shinys. No factory reset was performed before finding the shinies. I later traded them over to Emerald, so I'm worried that my shinys may be flagged for cheating even though I did not cheat on Emerald... ever.

Edit: And so you guys know, it was my little cousin's cheating device and we were having a little fun by getting ubers and stuff so I can honestly say I've never cheated for my own personal pleasure and it was only on that one occasion.

he didn't cheat for the shinys, he cheated on a previous save file, started a new game, didn't to a factory reset, and then found those 2 shinys. then he traded them over to his emerald.

Yeah, sorry I had trouble getting the point across guys, but a definate (or almost definate lol) answer would be nice. OR if you know of any way of contacting JAA, let me know ;)

Edit: The reason I need to know is because I may be able to go to an event July 1st and if I can't use Emerald, I need to get hot on LG.

Pika, I would contact them through Pokemon.com. They are running JAA and will sometimes actually answer emails. I don't know how you could contact JAA directly.

My advice would be to get hot on LG just incase.

Well, I sent them this message.

I cheated on a past save file (on Pokemon Ruby), deleted it, and on a new file found two shiny Pokemon. No factory reset was performed prior to finding the shinies. I later traded them over to Pokemon Emerald, so I'm worried that my shinys may be flagged for cheating even though I did not cheat on Emerald... ever.

I am hoping to go to JAA in Roleigh, NC, but I cannot go if my cartridge would be flagged for cheating. The ultimate question is: would it? I didn't cheat to affect the shiny Pokemon in any way. In fact, the only cheat codes I remember using was to encounter Deoxys and to go to Southern Island.

Best wishes,
Kyle

*hopes for a response*

Edit: In the meantime, I guess it's LG for me.

As long as too damaging of cheats were used on the previous file..... a normal reset should wipe it. However there is some debate about whether or not a cartridge that has been cheated on will be flagged itself (showing that a cheat was used on it and not referring at all to any save files). That is known to happen with certain game systems and without first hand knowledge i couldn't tell you exactly the extent of it all. One way to test if the pokemon would be accepted is to upload them to XD, if you have it, since that is similar to the system they use (at least that is what i've been told).

Yeah, rumor has it if you upload it to XD and it works it wou;dn't be caught as cheated or flagged or what not. I dont have XD myself, so i can't debunk any rumors first hand.
