Was it a Nintendo memory card or a 3rd party? Usually with 3rd parties you will lose your save file alot...

You're supposed to have the memory card in before you turn on the power or it has a slight chance of deleting it.

For some reason my memory card holds less data and my brother's holds more?
Why's that happening?

There are different sizes of memory cards. I got the extended memory card, so can put quite a bit on it. The earlier memory cards can only hold like 64 or 128 or something like that. The newer one I got can hold 512. So, depending on what saves you have on the memory cards, there may be more room based on the card type or what you have on it.

Maybe when you played first the game, you didn't make a game file for your game and when you want to save, it don't find anything...

He said he was about to beat Mt. Battle in order to get Ho-Oh. No one has the patience to get that far without a memory card, let alone the fact that they wouldn't be able to trade.

Anyways, did you try again? Like the others said, it's probebly a good idea to have your MC in you GC when you power it up. I don't know why you would think otherwise, thats almost like how my cousin though her DS would blow up if she played it while it was charging.

...Ho-Oh? You must've played it a lot!

The only way you can get Ho-Oh w/o going to a Nintendo Event is by beating Mt.Battle in both the Colosseum and Story Modes after purifying all 48 Shadow Pokemon in the story mode, and I think it takes more than one play to do so... So I think it must be the MC being made by 3rd party... Either that, or maybe the game was made sometime before the white Memory Card 1019 was made(and the white Memory Card 1019 was made in 2005(I think), and that's 1 year ago), and thus, that very same game may also have some issues w/ Memory Cards that can hold more memory than the memory that the official MCs that existed at Colosseum's time can hold, and the only official MCs that existed at the time are MC 59 and MC 251, and any MCs that holds more memory at the time were all 3rd party cards that don't undergo Nintendo's initial testing process, so those cards may not be fully compatable w/ the Gamecube, as any product that doesn't undergo the initial testing process is an unlicensed product that isn't guaranteed to work on your game system...
You never know the consequences of using accessories to use games that use technology that's older than that of the newer accessory's time, but after the new accessory is made, games that are made after the newer technology can fully use it, while games made before the time of the technology's creation cannot use the new accessory to it's full potential, meaning possible problems w/ the game when it tries to access the newer technology when it really can't distinguish who it's made from: It always goes by whatever is available at the game's time, so in this case, it could think that the MC's made from a 3rd party organization, when that really isn't the case here, but who knows???

Well, first of all, I think you must get all the Shadow Pokémon in one runthrough.

Secondly, third party memory cards work with Pokémon Colosseum. It works with my Interact memory card (2002, 64 mb) and both my Nyko memory cards (2003, 64 mb) (2006, 128 mb). The only srew-up I've ever had was in 2004 when my SSBM file was corrupted (I had a back-up file). The only way the memomry cards are messed up is if you handle them incorrectly. i.e. the memory card must always be in the GCN or its original container.

Sorry, but I can't help with your problem, as I never did fix my own corrupted file.

The brand has absolutely nothing to do with compatibility with games. What gave you that idea? I also had an Interact one. Lasted me a total of 2 weeks. 3rd party memory cards suck, except for Nyko (I think Nyko is good. I've never owned a Nyko memory card, so don't rely on my information). All that I know is that you're safe with Nintendo memory cards.

Well then I must be extremely lucky considering my Interact has lasted 4 years.

Oh, and I just noticed no one else has brought this up: is the memory card in Slot A? Pokémon Colosseum only reads data from Slot A.

I find that 3rd party memory cards can accidently delete data so I only use Nintendo ones now. It's really annoying when you loose data but I can suggest just constantly turning on the GC with the MC in and looking at it in the system menu (you know, the cube thing where you can look at all the data on the momry card) If it asks if you want to format it, say "No" and just keep trying. There's a small chance you'll get what happened to me and your data will magically come back. When thsi happens, just copy it onto an official memory card and hope it never happens again. Also, I suggest putting the MC in before you turn the power on.
