Metalheads? anybody?

THRILLHO

nothin' at all
Too bad the album isn't as good as the artwork. :p It's a fine album, but not as good as FOABP.

them's fighting words

i prefer the incident, the only song on foabp that keeps bringing me back is anesthetize

I think The Incident is kinda stale. It works as an album, but few of the songs have an appeal outside of the album context. I think part of why I like it less is because it really doesn't bring anything new to the table. The albums before it all has unique and distinctive styles, meanwhile The Incident is more of a mish-mash of all PT albums.

If The Incident was any sign of how PT's future would look, I would easily prefer SW continuing his solo-stuff since both Insurgentes and Grace For Drowning are two of his very best albums. But I would still be very much excited about a new PT album. The Incident and In Absentia are the only weaker albums they've put out in the 00's, and both are still good so.

THRILLHO

nothin' at all
i would much rather new PT, but SW is nearly done writing #3 and if luminol is any indication, it will be a better album than GFD. i still can't get that much into GFD (yet i bought it 3 times what even)

Funny enough, I would say that Grace For Drowning is his best album yet. :p It has both some of his best more friendly, catchy songs like "Deform to Form a Star" and "Home in Negative" on the bonus disc, some awesome experimental stuff, and as an album it's quite the journey.
I would love a new PT album, and it would make me excited like the worst fanboy you could imagine, but I really do hold Insurgentes and Grace For Drowning in his top5, so I'm just as excited for solo-stuff really. :)

THRILLHO

nothin' at all
insurgentes is my favourite of any SW album (PT or no), that album is fucking incredible. i am keen to get my hands on one of the limited 4x10" sets but i will have to save for a while

i don't even know about the order past like the top 5

i'll make a top 50 list later today, i recently answered a question on a different forum about the most important albums in metal and i can probably just edit that one.

So I've returned and I've brought a whole new list of bands. Anyone like 'em?

Pierce The Veil, ADay To Remember, Of Mice And Men, Miss May I, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Four Year Strong, All That Remains, I See Stars, Rise Against, The Messenger, Sky Eats Airplane, Emarosa, You Me At Six, All Time Low, A Skylit Drive, Escape The Fate, blessthefall Iwrestledabearonce, Parkway Drive, Mayday Parade, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Alexisonfire, Memphis May Fire, Stick To Your Guns, Chiodos, Silverstein.

And dd anybody get to go to Warped Tour?

I've not had much new since last time I posted. Probably just the new Cosmic Crusader EP.
However I've recently become a reviewer for destructive music.
I've only got two reviews up so far, but I thought it'd be worth mentioning
http://destructive-music.com/?p=1276
http://destructive-music.com/?p=1248
i didn't read the Ygg one because i've not heard the album, but reading your Repugnant review, i might as well bring it up- i never understood why so many reviewers break down albums on a track by track basis instead of dissecting the thing as a whole and only mentioning the important tracks that go along with the points their making. it seems too awkward and forced to review every single track on the release, since people rarely can put a full paragraph into every song if it's longer than 6 tracks without using fluff.

just a little criticism. :p

also the main comparison i've always made with Repugnant is a Schizophrenia era Sepultura mixed with lots of Swedish death melodies and such.

Funny enough, I'd say Leitmotif is Dredg's worst album. (Not counting Chuckles because that one is pretty awful)

wat

the only thing i don't like about it is the interlude at the end of track 5, plus movement I and crosswind minuet are the coolest tracks i have ever heard

attn evan: thrash. i have a good feeling about this one!!!

also re: dredg; i don't listen to them much, but they are quite good. i don't really have a favourite or anything, i just know that chuckles is godawful.

that was pretty good. i think i remember hearing about that band before they had a full length because they did a split with Necrovation, but not sure if it's the same Corrupt. i'll check the full length out.

anyway, loose top 50 list no order, all metal or metal influenced punk given the nature of the thread, one album per band:

1. Autopsy - Severed Survival
2. Saint Vitus - Die Healing
3. Cirith Ungol - King of the Dead
4. Black Sabbath - Paranoid (could easily witch this with Master of Reality)
5. Entombed - Left Hand Path
6. Bathory - Bathory
7. Witchfinder General - Death Penalty
8. Sodom - Persecution Mania
9. Destruction - Infernal Overkill
10. Slayer - Hell Awaits
11. Grave - Into the Grave
12. Pentagram - Relentless
13. Beherit - Drawing Down the Moon
14. Blasphemy - Fallen Angel of Doom
15. Tank - Filth Hounds of Hades
16. Angel Witch - Angel Witch
17. Venom - Welcome To Hell
18. Razor - Executioner's Song
19. Reverend Bizarre - Reverend Bizarre
20. Coffins - Buried Death
21. Carnage - Dark Recollections
22. Inquisition - Magnificent Glorification of Lucifer
23. Runemagick - The Supreme Force of Eternity
24. Acid Bath - Paegan Terrorism Tactics
25. Slaughter - Strappado
26. Discharge - Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing
27. Destroyer 666 - Cold Steel For An Iron Age
28. Immolation - Close to A World Below
29. Repulsion - Horrified
30. Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales
31. Hellhammer - Satanic Rites
32. Grotesque - In The Embrace of Evil
33. Extreme Noise Terror - A Holocaust In Your Head
34. Warning - Watching From a Distance
35. 40 Watt Sun - The Inside Room
36. Sepultura - Morbid Visions (could easily be replaced by Schizophrenia)
37. Sarcofago - INRI
38. The Devil's Blood - The Time of No Time Evermore
39. Possessed - Death Metal (Demo)
40. Acid Witch - Stoned
41. Gorement - The Ending Quest
42. Voivod - Killing Technology
43. Death Strike - Fuckin' Death
44. Eyehategod - Take As Needed For Pain (this could be replaced with a Weedeater album)
45. Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death
46. Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane
47. Carcass - Symphonies of Sickness
48. Neurosis - Given to the Rising
49. Motorhead - Motorhead
50. Cathedral - Forest of Equillibrium

the only semblance of any order that might be in the list is that the last 12 or so probably cycle in and out more often than the earlier albums, but that's not completely true either (i don't think i could make a top anything list without including Voivod in some form, for example). but just don't take the list too literally.

i had enough trouble doing a top 10, so a top 50 would murder me. this is my top 10, in no order:

isis - panopticon
pink floyd - animals
radiohead - hail to the thief
agalloch - ashes against the grain
tool - lateralus
interpol - turn on the bright lights
intronaut - valley of smoke
flight of the conchords - flight of the conchords
meshuggah - obzen
mastodon - blood mountain

also have some stoner

Hammerheart

Son of Wōden

Whilst I can see why you think I did that, I didn't really. Certainly not consciously. I basically described the intro into the first track, and then the general sound. But then to show the contrast between Rapturous Genocide and the rest of the EP, I noted that the sound continues onto Morbid Ways, but Rapturous Genocide stands out like a sore thumb. And then the cover get's a mention given how it manages to stay coherent when one of their own songs doesn't. Plus it's a cover, they're always talking points. I think the fact that there's so few tracks meant it was hard not to mention them individually really.
But if you read the latest one I've had put up http://destructive-music.com/?p=1322 there's only one specific track that get's mentioned, and that's because of a guest vocalist.

As for a top 50, I'll get cracking on that. Though it might end up a favourite rather than best.

so, only metal, 1 album per band, alphabetical, favourite at the moment.

Askival - Eternity
Atlantean Kodex - The Golden Bough
Bathory - Hammerheart
Black Knight - Black Knight
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle Earth

Electrocution - Inside the Unreal
Entombed - Left Hand Path

AND IT WAS THIS BIG!
I'd have to do metal and rock, no way in hell would I get 50 out of metal alone. Its probably gonna be 50/50 with some lighter stuff that might seem a bit too.....out there to be mixed in with metal. You'll see what I mean. No proper order, just favorites, in order of what pops up first as a top 50, moving down.
Queen- Night at the Opera
MC5- Kick out the Jams
The Stooges- Funhouse
Iggy Pop- Lust for Life
Genesis- Invisible Touch
UFO- Phenomenon
Uriah Heep- Demons and Wizards
Jethro Tull- Aqualung
Rainbow- Bent out of Shape
Rainbow- Rising
Black Sabbath- Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Blind Guardian- Night at the Opera
Blind Guardian- Imaginations from the Other side
Stratovarius- Fright Night
Grim Reaper- See You in Hell
Omen- Battle Cry
Cirith Ungol- Frost and Fire
Candlemass- Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Def Leppard- Hysteria
Overkill- Ironbound
Sodom- Agent Orange
Amon Amarth- Fate of Norms
Ensiferum- Iron
Moonsorrow- Voimasta ja kunniasta
Wolf- The Black Flame
Steelwing- Lord of the Wasteland
Saxon- Power and the Glory
Judas Priest- Painkiller
Judas Priest- Turbo
Iron Maiden- Somewhere in time
Iron Maiden- Brand New World
Annihilator- Alice in Hell
Annihilator- Never Neverland
Helloween- Chameleon
OSI- Fire Make Thunder
Savatage- Hall of the Mountain King
Savatage- Gutter Balllet

Need another 14, but those are my top 50 mostly. Lots of basic stuff, but sometimes its the simple stuff in life that makes it worthwhile. And Genesis does seem lonely, but I'm best gonna leave it like that, cause mentioning the police, sting and such a bit too out there. :p

Purple_Tangrowth

A DRUM, A DRUM!...
Sorry if you've already discussed this but what do you guys think of the new Periphery album?
I'm quite open to the controvertial pop feel and the electronic influence and I quite like it. But something makes me want to dislike it at the same time. And yeah part of it probably is the vocalist...
