I was wondering how you can teach the move sketch to Mew? I'm trying to teach mew volt tackle, so sketch is my only hope. Please help!

No, otherwise people would be making movesets like

Hyper Beam,
Frenzy Plant.
Hydro Cannon,
Blast Burn

and other sweeping movesets that don't contain a lot of thought and are mainly used as powerhouses.

What if Mew knew Mimic? And it was facing a Smeargle? Then hypothetically the battle would go like this, right:

Smeargle used Sketch! But it failed!
Mew used Mimic! Mew learned Sketch!
Smeargle used Volt Tackle!
Mew used Sketch! Mew learned Volt Tackle!

Would that work? Or would Mew's Mimic go back to Mimic after the battle, even though Sketch permanently copied Volt Tackle?

Actually Rikru, why do you want your Mew to learn Volt Tackle anyway? Thunderbolt is much better, and will do more damage, providing Volt Tackle will not OHKO. And even then, the next turn you are vulnerable to any attack, which is not good at all.

150 (Volt Tackle) + 0 (wasted turn) = 150 total damage

95 (Thunderbolt) + 95 (Thunderbolt) = 190 total damage

Uh, pal? Volt Tackle deals 120 base damage and gives the user recoil damage. It doesn't make the user skip a turn. Look at the Attack Dex on Serebii.net and you'll see. Where did you get the idea that Volt Tackle makes you skip a turn, anyway?

If you mimic Sketch and sketch a move with the mimiced Sketch, you don't retain the move after the battle. And Volt Tackle is an electric type Double-Edge(120 power, recoil), not an electric type Hyper Beam.

I beat you to that comment about Volt Tackle. Read my post. You don't need to say what's already been said. Sorry, but you don't. Well, sorry.

Dude, lighten up. So what if Somebody took 3 minutes to type up his post? So he was beaten. You don't have to snap at him or brag about being the first one to answer.

And yes, you two were right. I thought Volt Tackle was an elemental Hyper Beam as opposed to an elemental Double Edge.

Are you kidding me? I wasn't aware I was that subtle. Gosh. You read too much into my posts. If you didn't understand what I just said, I've got just one word for ya:

no I dont think so, those ''elemental beams'' really suck, I never use them, they are about same strong than hydro pump and fire blast, but i still dont use them, because they hit only every two turns, I use surf and flamethrower and ice beam etc.

No, it can't learn it, so you are out of luck.

But if it were possible, then people would have a hard to beat Mew and it's would be used more than that stupid painter dog whose goes the under name of "Smeargle".

No, afraid not.

... and a forewarning. It has been said that Mew can learn Sketch as part of its movepool from the Move Tutor in XD. Not true, so if you even come across it don't believe it.

what if it was fighting a smeargle with volt tackle and sketch if it used transform and used sketch, then what would it be the same thing as the mimic thing?

can smeargle learn any move with sketch? wouldn't that kind of make it a non-legendary mew with low stats
