Middle Cup Team on PO. "What?"

WeatherEffectRain

Arm Wrestle?
Middle Cup! It's this thing I saw a few days ago. I was like 'That's so awesome.'

HYPER EDIT!!: After fighting in "The Dragonair Tournament" and ...Losing due to a misclick... I've decided to post the newer changes to my team. They're not large as my team is farely solid already, but I'm looking for some more improvement, as always :D

I've made a team on PO, had a few battles (*around 15) and I find it quite fun to play.

Now, I know it's not an official tier, at least right now, but it's really nice.

This RMT isn't just for my thoughts, though; I'm trying to raise awareness of MC.

Lnk to R4GEK1LL!!!'s 'Middle Cup' Thread: http://serebiiforums.com/showthread.php?t=536140

I'll explain the rules of Middle Cup before I get this RMT started:

•All Pokemon must be Level 50.

•All Pokemon must evolve from something.

•All Pokemon must be able to evolve into something.

•There are currently no Banlists except for the strict Pokemon-Requirements.

Keep in mind that at Level 50, EVs are the SAME, so it's not like LC.

Anyways, on to the RMT.

Changes in BOLD.

I'm not going to post the process, but I went through quite a few before reaching this team.

Details:
042.gif

Golbat(M)
Ability: Inner Focus
Item: Eviolite
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 HP, 4 SDef, 252 Spd
-Toxic
-Roost
-Brave Bird
-Taunt

Standard. If you can call it that. Anyway. Golbat is a main Staller, able to out-stall anything not immune to Toxic, which is other Golbat and Steel-Types, which I'd usually switch out on anyway. Brave Bird and Taunt are situational at best, but can prove useful. His defences are mighty with the Eviolite, so I don't need to invest in anything but HP.

126.gif

Magmar(M)
Ability: Flame Body
Item: Choice Scarf
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spd
-Fire Punch
-Cross Chop
-Return
-Thunderpunch
Physical Magmar. Fire Punch is reliable STAB, Cross Chop is the Fighting Move, Thunderpunch hits bulky Waters like Poliwhirl or Marill and Golbat for Supereffective. Running Return due to lack of options.

533.gif

Gurdurr(M)
Ability: Guts
Item: Eviolite
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Atk, 4 SDef
-Drain Punch
-Mach Punch
-Bulk Up
-Payback
It's exactly like Conkeldurr, but in this tier. Rips things apart the same, great Pokemon. Loves Dual Screen support from Magneton, and absolutely loves to kill things like weakened Rhydon and Electabuzz.

082.gif

Magneton(N/A)
Ability: Magnet Pull
Item: Eviolite
Nature: Calm
EVs: 252 HP, 48 Defense, 208 SDef
-Reflect
-Light Screen
-Discharge
-Signal Beam
My Dual Screener. I wish he had Recovery, then he'd be a wall. Oh well. Anyways, Dual Screens are nice to absorb enormous amounts of damage, like surviving a non-CB EQ from Rhydon with 7% left while Reflect is up. Dude, the Garchomp of the Tier didn't kill him. And he had like 75% percent left... Anyways, Discharge is for the support it brings, and countering Golbat early-game is really useful. Signal Beam is for coverage, particularly against Kadabra and Krokorok.

I refuse to change Magneton's current. I know other sets may be better, but the few time's I've played it was soooo useful.

008.gif

Wartortle(M)
Ability: Torrent
Item: Eviolite
Nature: Modest
EVs: 252 HP, 252 SAtk, 4 Spd
-Rapid Spin
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Hidden Power(Electric)
MC's premier and only Rapid Spinner. He can also function as a hole-puncher. Surf is STAB, Ice Beam is great for stuff like Roselia, Hidden Power(Electric) hits other crap hard.
No current changes.

552.gif

Krokorok(M)
Ability: Moxie
Item: Choice Band
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spd
-Crunch
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Brick Break
Krokorok is so devastating. OHKOing Dusclops with Crunch? Yes please! He's a beast. EQ is also usable for, like Steels who resist Crunch. Stone Edge gives Filler Edge-Quake and Brick Break hits opposing Krokorok Super-effectively. Crunch and EQ are more useful, though. Moxie over Intimidate now.

And there's my MC team! Hoping for dem' improvements, and hoping someone else will think about joining the march for MC :D

EDIT:
067.gif

Machoke(M)
Ability: No Guard
Item: Eviolite
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Atk, 4 SDef
-DynamicPunch
-ThunderPunch
-Bullet Punch
-Earthquake
It's like a Mini-Machamp, only it's a Machoke. ThunderPunch is coverage against bulky Waters and Golbat, Bullet Punch is Priority that is now needed on the set(Due to Rhydon), and EQ is EQ, good for hitting Metang and Magneton. Eviolite really helps his durability.

dusclop takes on your only answer to porygon-2 really, and i like to have a trick(haunter) or knock off carrier on my MC team to take out porygon-2 easier, but nice team!

Nice! So it's all for 3 stages pokes? Well, that means Dusclops is viable, and he can rock in OU. Also i found good poke if you were to run SS here. Just found many nice pokes for this cup! Man it's challenging. I think i'll make one myself just for fun. Sorry, didn't rated at all, just said some useless things.

yeeeaaaahhh MC! *high fives* Anyway, nice team. Just one thing to change: Magmar.
Yeah, dont go wasting EVs on Attack and losing defense. Give it Timid, and teach it HP [Electric] if you really want coverage against Water types. Focus Blast for Fighting coverage.
I like the use of Wartortle. I've always wanted to use one.

Moxie makes Krokorok even more devastating after a kill. It'll boost his Attack to what, 150-170 after a kill? Yeah, total beast. Scarf is also viable. Also, I find OHKOing Eviolite Dusclops rather questionable, with Crunch.

This works as an anti-lead, outspeeding most hazard setters. Invest in speed instead of attack, on 128 in both defenses for more bulk.

126.gif

Magmar(M)
Ability: Flame Body
Item: Choice Scarf
Nature: Naive
EVs: 140 Atk, 116 SAtk, 252 Spd
-Flamethrower
-Cross Chop
-Overheat
-Thunderpunch
MixMar(I like the sound of that...). I'm still lost on the EVs, but what are you going to do: There's like, what, 15 people who play this? There's not going to be a standard. Now that my rant's over; Flamethrower is reliable STAB, Cross Chop is the Fighting Move, Overheat is over-destructive STAB, Thunderpunch hits bulky Waters like Poliwhirl or Marill and Golbat for Supereffective. I may want Hasty over Naive, but I'm fine wiuth it as is.
Stick to a full on special or physical set. making it mixed isin't worth it.

067.gif

Machoke(M)
Ability: No Guard
Item: Eviolite

Well made. Evolite works on it too. I'd recommend considering Drain Punch, but this isn't gurdurr now is it...

082.gif

Magneton(N/A)

Nature: Calm
EVs: 252 HP, 48 Defense, 208 SDef

And he had like 75% percent left... Anyways, Volt Switch is for Switching out with some damage(Which is really useful for a pseudo-tier like this) and Signal Beam is for coverage, particularly against Kadabra and Krokorok.
Dual screens? Erm... that's new. It could work.

008.gif

Wartortle(M)
Ability: Torrent
Item: Eviolite
Nature: Modest
EVs: 252 HP, 252 SAtk, 4 Spd

Hmm. good here.

You really want to taunting before the opponent. You've only got one attack that isn't extremely useful (in terms of KOs), steels and poisons will shred it, but they are covered.

126.gif

Magmar(M)
Ability: Flame Body
Item: -
Nature: Naive
EVs: 4 HP, 252 Attack, 252 Speed
-Fire Punch
-Cross Chop
-Theif
-Thunderpunch

I may want Hasty over Naive, but I'm fine wiuth it as is. Fire Punch is your STAB, Cross Chop is your coverage as is Thunderpunch is doing the same thing. Theif helps those defences. You could do a special alternative but I don't think it would be as good. The un-mixing makes up for the loss of your choice scarf.

067.gif

Machoke(M)
Ability: No Guard
Item: Eviolite

EVs: 252 HP, 252 Atk, 4 SDef

It's fine... You may want to put in substitute and rest to make it a wall while toxic hurts the opponent (from another poke), but you also become taunt bait. It depends on wether you wanna risk it, as the tuanters are usually put in first (from what i've seen).

008.gif

Wartortle(M)
Ability: Torrent
Item: Eviolite

Moxie and Leftovers? Definately, seeing as a +1 is just given to you. You really don't want to waste it.
There's my rate. None of us really know, so it would be best to test it some more. Find some-one who is willing to help and test for quite a while.

Nice team and I might try middle cup sometime soon but I do want to point out that if a Pokemon's IVs and EVs divided by 4 for a stat equal an odd number, it will round down. As for the Magmar set mentioned above, I recommend a Gem and possibly Overheat over Fire Punch.

I'm glad it sparked some interest :D I'll sort through these now;

dusclop takes on your only answer to porygon-2 really, and i like to have a trick(haunter) or knock off carrier on my MC team to take out porygon-2 easier, but nice team!

My only answer to Pory2? I assume Machoke; But hey, I'm good with it. I see no problem with carrying Knock Off, but where would I place it?

Moxie makes Krokorok even more devastating after a kill. It'll boost his Attack to what, 150-170 after a kill? Yeah, total beast. Scarf is also viable. Also, I find OHKOing Eviolite Dusclops rather questionable, with Crunch.

Moxie would be good I guess, but being Banded makes him lock, so likelihood states they're going to switch a Fighting/Steel/Dark in. I really like the Intimidate buffer too, but I guess I probably should, looking at these other posts.

WOOOHOOOO!!! YESS!!! IT'S MY TIER!!!!!!! F*CK YEAH!!!!
Lol. Nicely done. Thanks for supporting the tier.

I'm shocked why there are no other rates like this already, anywho. I'll work with them changes.

I'll work with them changes. I'd prefer, however, to keep CB on Krokorok, because Dusclops and Steels(Crunch and EQ respectively) are shredded by it. Moxie it is, then, though.

PO placed it like this. I'll look through my team again to make sure.

On Magmar, you're thinking of Nature Power. Secret Power's the one that has a changing added effect. I believe it's paralysis in wifi/PO.

SAND VEIL HAX!!!
hmm somewhat new to MC here but...

electabuzz outclasses magmar for sure (higher speed [cause like LC, speed is verry important, due to lower defense pokemon if i had to guess], ice punch, better typing) so make it electabuzz for me [but i guess you can keep it :p]. but if you do want to keep it, i recommend thief or knock off for it to ruin walls or possibly sweepers.

I figured. I really can't find a better replacement though. Return? Status?

Electabuzz has lower offenses then Magmar. Plus, Scarfed means Magmar is one of the big boys. Electabuzz only has Speed, Ice Punch and less Weaknesses to compete with Magmar IMO.

Magmar also can't learn Knock Off, and Thief has one use.

doesn't magmar get flare blitz? or is that just magmortar? that could be a good filler move for more power.

Why yes, but I was conscerned for the damage... But, seeing as I have no real better option, it could work, as you said. I'll probably go for it.

Utter Bump. Can't lose Cross Chop, Flare Blitz as Egg Move being unavailable with both. So yeah no Flare Blitz. I'm guessing Return, as sucky as it would be in comparison?

Hyper bump for the hyper edits in the wake of my ...misclick loss... in The Dragonair Tournament! More rates I'd love :p

I've got a couple of suggestions

Golbat---Nothing atm.
Magmar---You could run Mach Punch over Return.Or maybe a mixed set?
Gurdurr---I've tried Foresight in place of Payback, and it works quite well. You get to hit Ghosts with Mach Punch.Especially when you can hit Dusclops with Drain Punch
Magneton---Nothing atm
Wartortle---Try giving Wartortle a Choice Scarf and Water Spout. You'll be surprised how well that works
Krokorok---Seems pretty well put together.Although I would run adamant-Scarf.Considering Krokorok isn't really that fast,Scarf can be a great help.

Just posting to say, EV's at level 50 are not entirely the same as EV's at level 100. If you have an even IV (30 Speed/SpA for HP-Fire, for example), you should only place 248 EV's (or any other multiple of 8) into that stat, instead of a multiple of 4 like at 100. 248 EV's gives the same stat while allowing you to place 4 EV's into another stat, giving a free stat point.

For example, for a level 50 HP-Fire 70 Latios in GBU, the EV-spread should look like 4Def/248SpA/4SpDef/248Spe, with the 4 extra EV's placed in either Defense, or HP (provided the IV is odd).
