Mono-type Specialization

Does anyone else find it odd that, while the player is encouraged to find and utilize the various Pokémon types in the world, none but their rival do the same? This is, in my opinion, perhaps the greatest flaw in the games.

Even the mightiest of the Elites limit themselves to a set range of types, giving themselves glaring weaknesses. Lately this has been offset by strategic use of dual-types, but for the most part this has remained true. Where is the logic in making every major opponent basically a mono-type user? Why do you think the developers would continue to leave the Gym Leaders, the Elite, and even the Champions recently with a glaring Achilles Heel?

This is rather an obvious question to me, and I apologize if this has been mentioned already, though I did not see a thread for it.

Maybe it's because the Gym Leaders and E4 find it easier to train in one type, or that they stand out by being a mono-type user?

I think its because origionally it was a big thing like 'The greatest fighting type user' but as the games have progressed and developed there are way more oppurtunities to rape the elite 4, but they're still a integral part of the game. Hopefully though, they'll have d/p elite 4 members that on the second run through hae moved away from their specialisations a lil bit.

That way, they also force you to make mono-typed teams.

Just realise, the people in the Pokémon world aren't as intelligent as we are. That is also why they keep saying the same thing over and over again and why they don't move. But in return, the people in the Pokémon world don't need food, oxyden, sleep or bathrooms.

I agree with some posts above it makes the game more difficult , if they do that, but I want to see that. That's why I would like to see an MMORPG. i would like to see more trainers using different types of pokemon, btw you forget cooltrainers and breeders, they use a bigger range of types. And they can only make the leaders difficult and "mono-typed" with dual types. However I hope that gymleaders in the future will use like 3 pokemon of their gym type and some other pokemon, those have to know at least one attack with the same type as the gym.

I really dont understand why so many people dislike the mono type thing. I think it's cool to see, when trainers/gym leaders/elites specialize in their favorite type and try to bring the best out of it. I, for example, love to battle with my mono rock team against Roxanne. Or with my mono fire team against Flannery. It's so intresting to battle against "the strongest trainer of a type" and see how they use their Pokemon. It would be so boring to see mixed type gym leaders...they would all be the same in some way. I mean imagin that in every gym, you would have to fight against Gary(8th leader of G/S/C), just on different levels...that'd be so lame:/. I love mono type teams/trainers and I dont see anything wrong with it. It never gets boring with them.

BTW, we have Frontier brains, who dont specialize in one type.

Yeah you are right with this one, and I am not a person who dislikes it, it gave some trouble, in the gyms (the mono typing) for example Whitney and Norman, but I would like to see the leaders more as the stadium leaders, maybe I have to give an example of a team I would like to see:
poison team
-crobat
-venomoth
-vaporeon
-forretress
-meganium
-muk
the three none poison pokemon have toxic. so you could say it is a poison leader and (s)he is more difficult. And he isn't "realy" monotyped.

I also like those "pseudo" mono type teams. They are more fun, original and more of a challenge. I for example, love to use Octillery on a mono fire team(not only because of it's firered colour, also because it learns Flamethrower/Fireblast).
But they also already made a little step in this direction in Emerald. By giving Roxanne a Steelix and Winona a Dragonite(which is more of a dragon type, than a flying) on their final teams. They shouldnt overdo it with the "pseudo Pokemon" on mono teams though.
