Mono-Water team in Emerald

Right now, they're all around lv55 (except for Kingdra and Ludicolo, they're higher), but I'm working on getting everyone to lv100 so don't worry about that. Also, I'm not putting EV spreads because a) I don't remember most of them and b) I'm fine with those. I know what I'm doing pretty much ;).

STARMIE@Brightpowder
(Timid)
-Psychic
-Thunderbolt
-Ice Beam
-Recover

No need for Surf, over half the team already has that. Went for boltbeam, plus a STABed Psychic. Brightpowder for any item clauses with which I'm confronted , plus it has helped numerous times.

SWAMPERT@Chesto Berry
(Adamant)
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-Curse
-Rest

Only physical guy, so I dropped Ice Beam for Rock Slide. Chesto rest for a quick heal after cursing, instead of giving them time to switch to a phazer.

VAPOREON@Leftovers
(Bold)
-Surf
-Haze
-Substitute
-Rest

Sort of an odd set. Basically, I didn't have a move tutor for sub (already used it), so I was going with Ice Beam over that, but then my brother let me use the MT in his Emerald. So no, I refuse to re-breed for Baton Pass because I won't have Substitute then.

MILOTIC@Leftovers
(Modest)
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Hypnosis
-Recover

I was considering Mirror Coat, but I figured she could do more with Hypnosis (yay for no sleep clause in-game!). Unwilling to re-breed with her as well due to limited berry numbers. And Modest > +SpDef/-Atk for blue PokeBlock preference.

KINGDRA@Shell Bell
(Modest)
-Surf
-Dragonbreath
-Ice Beam
-Rain Dance

Second favorite Pokemon, so I'm not dropping him despite his only advantage being Swift Swim and Dragonbreath. Plus, great for double battles with Ludicolo.

LUDICOLO@Leftovers
(Calm)
-Rain Dance (Rain Dish)
-Leech Seed
-Ice Beam
-Surf

Sweeping special sponge. Works beautifully both in-game and competetively.

Your whole team is great in my opinion! :D The only thing I would like to suggest is that I would switch Milotic's Hypnosis with Refresh.

I hope I helped! :)

And maybe include Gyarados or something as another physical sweeper. If swampert dies and Blissey becomes alive, you're in deep trouble.

Yeah, Gyarados is a staple in most Mono Water teams. Give Swampert his normal Mixpert set or Cursepert set and replace maybe Vaporeon with Gyarados, in my opinion. That Vaporeon is kinda strange, it doesn't really serve a single purpose besides Hazing. Substitute is rather weird on it since it's not passing to anything.

Frost Nova

The predator awaits.
Blissey can wall your entire team once Swampert goes down. Try to fit Gyarados into the team so it doesn't get walled.

Since you have Swampert and Milotic as your physical walls you don't need Vaporeon.

Starmie's fine, except that replace Brightpowder with a Shell Bell. Just because the AI uses hax items doesn't mean you have to.

I suppose Cursepert with RS is usable, you have things that can counter physical walls, so good luck with it.

You need something that can absorb status effects in your team, so may I suggest to you ReSTalk Milotic?

Milotic@lefties
Bold Nature
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Marvel Scale's up at all times, and can freely switch into things like Weezing or Salamence. Pwns the Battle Frontier.

Kingdra wants Toxic instead of Dragonbreath to help it counter bulky water types to an extent. Rest is also an option. Dragonbreath is usually not used because non STAB Ice Beam is still more powerful then Dragonbreath with STAB.

Ludicolo likes Giga Drain or T-Punch instead of Ice Beam, so it could counter other water types. Giga Drain for STAB and T-Punch to hit flyers.

So your team should look something like this:

Starmie@Shell Bell
Timid Nature
- T-Bolt
- Ice Beam
- Recover
- Psychic

Trait: Natural Cure

Gyarados@lefties
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- DD
- EQ
- HP [Flying] (highly advisable) / Return
- T-Wave

Swampert@Chesto Berry
Brave / Relaxed Nature
- RS / Hydro Pump
- EQ
- Curse
- Rest

Milotic@lefties
Bold Nature
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Kingdra@Shell Bell / lefties
Modest Nature
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Rain Dance
- Toxic

Ludicolo@lefties
Bold Nature
- Rain Dance / Giga Drain
- Leech Seed
- Surf
- Giga Drain / T-Punch

Trait: Rain Dish (if you want it to be more defensive) / Swift Swim (Sweeper set)

At first, I was considering Gyarados. I trained one up to get ready for training, and then quickly realized it can't learn Aerial Ace. And I refuse to spend the time trying to get the right nature, good IVs, and HP Flying. I have a Crawdaunt (Adamant: Swords Dance, Sludge Bomb, Facade/Aerial Ace, Crabhammer--STAB) that I switch in occasionally, but he's only in the 30s.

Vaporeon works rather well as a hazer, even without passing Subs, but I think I might drop him. Perhaps for that Crawdaunt. But, I need a phazer now, and there's not really a good spot for it on the team. If only I could pass Vaporeon's sub on through breeding :(.

Hypnosis has worked really well on Milotic. Won't Starmie work as a status-taker with Natural Cure? It can kill Salamence and Weezing quite easily too, then just drop the status effect by switching and recover later if needed.

I considered Giga Drain on Ludicolo, but that leaves him wide open to grass types and dragons (Salamence/Altaria in particular). I had a choice between easily killing waters or countering grass types and dragons (all without switching of course). I chose Ice Beam because grass types are basically immune to Ludicolo without it, it stops dragons from easily killing him, and he can usually still kill a water type as long as it can't recover HP. I do think a grass move would benefit the team though, so that might go over IB. It's still a tough decision for me.

I put RS on Swampert because Skarm is rarely a problem for me, and I figured rock type coverage is more beneficial than another water attack (which 2/3s of the team already has).

Starmie's set is based solely on type coverage, even if it has a few problems. Brightpowder is simply there for item clause in the BF, plus it has helped save Starmie on numerous occasions. I couldn't think of any other item since it has Recover and doesn't really need an HP recovering item.

And finally, Kingdra has Dragonbreath almost solely for the purpose of easily taking out Drake's and Juan's Kingdra. I will consider Toxic though.

Finally, this is an in-game team. Blissey and Skarmory are rarely a problem for me. I only battle my brothers and neighbors, and one of them has a Blissey (though he doesn't know anything about Pokemon and gave it an awful set). I ended up beating him with Ludicolo, Milotic, and Vaporeon. Still, I am looking for another physical guy, and am open to suggestions.

Use Return instead of HP Flying. The standard ingame is Dragon Dance / Earthquake / Return / Taunt, Surf, or Hydro Pump

lol at Rainy_Day's sig. Ignorance is bliss...

I hope you all realize that the quote in my sig is from a n00b, and my statement after that is sarcasm. I can't tell if you're saying I'm ignorant, or the guy I'm quoting (no name because it's not the complete quote--I think he's banned now). Just look at my team :D.

Anyways, I like Rain Dish on Ludicolo. I realize a boosted speed is helpful, but Rain Dish is nice for subbers/grass types/extra healing without fear of them switching.

Psychic on Starmie actually has helped. It's a good STABed move against anyone that boltbeam won't be super effective against, and can help against Weezing. As I said before, the team isn't super-competetive, so I'm not really fussy about their movesets.

I guess I might go with Gyarados over Vaporeon. I'll see if the Sub move tutor in my LG hasn't been used yet, in which case I might keep Vaporeon and go with Baton Pass > Rest. In that case, I need someone to drop for a physical guy.

I'd prefer to keep Kingdra, and nobody else is really removeable except for Vaporeon. So, is a sub-passer and phazer really that important for an in-game mono-water team? Remember, Blissey is not a big problem for my team. If Vaporeon is worth dropping, are there any other good physical waters to use besides Gyarados? Hopefully someone with a good STAB move (like how Crawdaunt can work well with Crabhammer since it has a high critical hit ratio). Otherwise, I might go with Gyarados.

Finally, one last question. If I get lucky with Gyarados and he does have HP Flying, will the strength of the attack vary besides the type? If so, how do I know if it's strong enough to be worth using. I'll go re-read the HP guide at SPP, but a quick explanation here would be great.

Magneton begs to differ.

Why would I leave Starmie in with Magneton in the first place? I'm not going to risk Surf not KOing it when I have Swampert, Ludicolo, and Kingdra.

And do you mean >59 in power for HP? How can I tell this? The equations in the SPP HP section made no sense to me (I blame my tiredness :D).

And I still need help with Vaporeon and a physical guy. Is a BPing sub Vaporeon worth it without Wish, or should I drop him regardless for a physical? And if so, who besides Gyarados could work?

I might make a suggestion. Swampert needs to learn surf. I have a lvl 100 Swampert that KO's with only Surf and if you have a Water Pokemon teach it surf. It is the most useful and best Water Move there is. (In my opinion)

WhiteWizard42

2/3 of his team already has surf. why would he give it to what's supposed to be his physical pokemon?

Okay, I don't need any help with Swampert, he's fine the way he is. What I need help with is Vaporeon and another physical sweeper. Everything else is settled :|.

And thanks for the help so far!

I am using Vapoereon as a hazer or a sub/wish passer, so no sets without at least one of those please.

And I already have sets for Gyarados and Kingdra. What I need help with deciding is should I keep Vaporeon with Surf, Haze, BP, and Sub, or should I drop him for Gyarados or another physical sweeper. And if I drop him, which guys could I add as physical sweepers. I was thinking of Crawdaunt or Relicanth. Any other ideas?

Reading Lessons needed.
Toy made it a Wish Passer.
Besides, Haze won't help you all that much in-game.
