Monotype Dark Team

My first attempt at a Dark Monotype Team. I'm not looking for an all out rate, just something to point me in the right direction if I'm like.. way off. I could find little to the effect of the Fifth Generation so I really just went with common sense.

If my descriptions are underdeveloped, please let me know. I am more than willing to write up something that better illustrates the synergy of my team. However, I think that this is pretty straight forward. Nothing too fancy here, so I'm not looking for anything too fancy in return.

Tyranitar (m) – Expert Belt
Sand Stream
252 Attack / 172 Sp. Attack / 84 Sp. Defense
Sassy
-Crunch
-Ice Beam
-Stealth Rock
-Fire Blast
**Mixed Tyranitar lead. Set up SR and start the Sand Stream. Tyranitar is the rock of my team. Crunch is a good STAB attack. If I choose to not use SR then I'll do Stone Edge. Fire Blast for Steels. Ice Beam for Dragons. This variety is why I'm using the Expert Belt. Can't beat that 20%.

332.gif

Cacturne (f) – Focus Sash / Rocky Helmet
Sand Veil
252 Attack / 252 Speed / HP 4
Adamant
-Encore
-Sucker Punch
-Spikes
-Magic Coat
**Unique combo for disrupting. Encore when they're trying to set up, Magic Coat so I get set up. Just a little something for fun, then layer Spikes. Sucker Punch for a good STAB move, not to mention priority. Reasonable choice to follow Tyranitar's Sand Stream. Rocky Helmet could give me a small advantage.

625.gif

Bisharp (m) – Chople Berry
Inner Focus
252 Attack / 252 Defense / 4 Speed
Impish
-Swords Dance
-Sucker Punch
-Psycho Cut
-Taunt
**Bisharp is one of the few Dark Pokemon that can learn Swords Dance and Sucker Punch. Chople Berry speaks for itself. Psycho Cut for Conkeldurr. Taunt to get in the way of setting up because Bisharp can actually take some hits.

553.gif

Krookodile (m) – Life Orb
Moxie
252 Attack / 252 Speed / 4 HP
Adamant
-Outrage
-Earthquake
-Pursuit
-Fire Fang
**In tandem with the Life Orb and Moxie, Krookodile has great physical sweeping potential. Outrage for coverage, Fire Fang and Earthquake for Steels. Pursuit for Latias.

571.gif

Zoroark (m) – Choice Specs
Illusion
252 Sp.Attack / 252 Speed / 4 Defense
Modest / Sassy
-Extrasensory
-Nasty Plot / U-Turn
-Flamethrower
-Focus Blast
**Zoroark to run some special sweeping. Flamethrower for Ferrothorn and Extrasensory for Fighting types, Nasty Plot to assist in that. U-turn would keep the "illusion" going. (Zoroark is a very weak member of the team in my opinion. It has minimal synergy with the rest of my Pokemon and would be better teamed with Spiritomb. May replace with Scrafty.)

630.gif

Mindibuzz (f) – Life Orb
Overcoat
252 HP / 148 Attack / 108 Defense
Impish
-Whirlwind
-Brave Bird
-Roost
-Taunt
**Playing Mandibuzz as a Scarmory without Spikes. Overcoat for Tyranitar's Sand Stream. I know the Life Orb plus Brave Bird is going to do some decent damage to Mandibuzz in the long run, but that's what Roost is for. Wish I had a little more to say about this one..

ALSO CONSIDERING
(Primarily in place of Zoroark. Decision pending on others.)

442.gif

Spiritomb (m) – Leftovers
Pressure
252 Special Attack / 172 Special Defense / 84 Defense
Modest
-Will-o-Wisp
-Rest
-Sleep Talk
-Psychic
**I love this set for Spiritomb so much and it works pretty well. Plays off of Zoroark's Extrasensory with a reliable recovery move. A good addition for a balanced team.

560.gif

Scrafty (m) – Lum Berry
Moxie
252 Attack / 252 Speed / 4 Defense
Jolly
- Drain Punch
- Ice Punch
- Crunch
- Dragon Dance
**DDScrafty. Another with excellent sweeping potential and good bulk. Drain Punch for recovery. Ice Punch for variety. Crunch for a good STAB attack. Lum Berry in place of Shed Skin.

I look forward to hearing your criticisms.
Thanks everyone!

i think you should have spiritomb somewhere in there, since most people will go after you with fighting types, having a ghost type will come in handy

also, switch krookodiles nature to jolly, since it gets attack bonuses from life orb and moxie, it needs more speed

Excellent. Will do.

I'll drop Zoroark for Spiritomb.

Thanks! ;3

no probs, and wait, if you are using a dark type team... why in the world wouldnt you use hydreigon? i suggest that over mandibuzz, or fit him in somewhere

also, weavile could be a good idea as well

Keep Z'ark; he's incredibly good. I had a Dark Monotype that went well before, never regretted using him. Here's two more I'd suggest:

-Weavile (Revenge Killer; takes out a lot of threats) Expert Belt/LO
-Ice Punch
-Brick Break
-Aerial Ace
-Pursuit

-Drapion (Sniper) <Razor Claw/Scope Lense>
-Night Slash
-Cross Poison
-E-quake
-Ice Fang/_____
Drapion is good with all of the crits it can get, and Sniper boosting them further. This guy wrecks.

Since you have BB on Mandibuzz, maybe consider getting rid of Bsharp as well... I don't know; depends on how well you've done with him (I've never -personally- used him)

Also... Cacturne; I have one as a lead, but... Not really the best around. I actually regret using him. Just depends... But, I'd definitely consider the two above, and keep Zoro for sure.

Edit: On monotypes, as darkrai said, Hydreigon would be really good as well.

especially since hydreigon is a really good revenge killer, and has such a wide range of pokemon it can destroy

DON'T use Zoroark. Everybody else on your team is immune to Sandstorm, which means he'll be spotted immediately. And he shares weaknesses with everyone else. A Scarfed Hydreigon would be more appropriate, I feel.

That's funny, because originally I did have Drapion on the team. Loved him. Toxic Spikes were my bread and butter. However, I took too much damage from Sandstream if I wasn't using Black Sludge, which I usually wouldn't in favor of the Razor Claw, you know, with Sniper? It was great. ;3

Hydreigon would be an excellent addition to the team.. But I'm really capitalizing on Sand Stream here. All of my Pokemon, with the exception of Zoroark (Spiritomb?) are immune to the weather effect. My goal is to not hurt *myself* as much as possible. So the questions for me is, do I... Eliminate the Pokemon who takes damage from Sand Stream in favor of Zoroark, Scrafty, Weavile, Drapion, Spiritomb, or Hydreigon?

They're all so amazing...

You're suggestions are really great! I just love Dark Pokemon so much.. It almost feels wrong to have a Dark team without Hydreigon.

I may just have to make another Dark team so you guys can rate'em. ;)

In my opinion, u have two ways to "perfectize" ( :p) you're team:
- as the guys said above, having Hydreigon ( bye Zoroark) that covers your weaknesses more easily.
- u can also forget about Tyrannitar (I know It's gorgeous but that sand storm binds u too much) and have a Weavile in return -> drastic and drammatic against other Dark/Flying/Rock/Steel/Grass/Fight pokemon :p

switch disharps 252 Def EV's into HP
Use Timid nature on zorark and put dark pulse/night burst somewhere on him
give mandibuzz leftovers and you should probably focus more EV's on defense and less on attack
really need to max out Spiritombs HP EV's
