Monster Hunter

As someone who never really played a Monster Hunter game, I had mixed feelings when I tried the Monster Hunter 3 demo. It felt sluggish, I didn't like the camera controls, and I was just confused.

This new demo helped fix some of that for me. I really like finding opportunities to wrangle monsters by jumping on their backs and going into demon mode with the dual blades to make the most of it, and the openings it leaves gives me a second to catch my breath. Aside from that, it just looked plain awesome
And, while it's not out yet(and I probably won't have one for a while after its out anyway), the New 3DS's C-stick should help fix my camera problems.

The game still feels really sluggish to me, though. Maybe I'll get used to it if I keep playing. Maybe I won't.

I finally downloaded the demo this morning. Had to dust off my circle pad pro I always found it rather frustrating to play MH3U without it.

I tried out the new Insect Glaive which was a lot of fun. Being able to climb small ledges without losing momentum is such a small feature but helps in such a huge way. I tried out both Dual Blades and Great Sword again. I believe this is also a new feature to MH4(correct me if I'm wrong) the ability to draw your weapon and attack when you jump off a high ledge or cliff. I still want to try out the other new weapon the Charge Blade and see how it plays.

Can't wait for MH4U, I preordered the bundle which comes with the game pre-installed. I just have one question since this is my first system with a pre-installed game, everything on the New 3DS is erased and replaced with everything on my old 3DS when I do the transfer. Since the game is pre-installed it'll merge with my NNID account and I can simply redownload it from the eShop, correct?

Yes, that's most certainly new, and ties into the new 'jump onto monsters' feature as well.

I also agree that this demo is much more beginner friendly (although maybe requires the circle pad pro/the new!3DS c-stick more than MH3U). More tutorials and general instructions sure help.

I think using the ZR/ZL buttons for camera controls is the best option. That way you don't have to take your thumbs off the very important face buttons to rotate the camera.

I will have to try that later on my n3ds though personally I've never had much trouble controlling the camera with the c-stick (target cam works well alongside it as well).

I've always hated the target camera, it may be because I came from the PSP games so was used to having free control over the camera while performing any action. So being able to adjust the camera freely while attacking or dodging at the same time is just what I expect to be able to do.

This game isn't Monster Hunter to me. It's Monster Wrangler to me now. I completely destroyed that "intermediate" monster with jumping attacks and demon mode. And now that I've figured out exactly how targeting works(I was a bit confused by it before), I'm really starting to get the hang of this.

I'm going to go move on from "beginner" to "experienced" now and see if I can last, like, two seconds there.

The monsters in the demo aren't that bad so they'd be good for getting used to playing normally.

I downloaded the demo today, and played a little bit. I tried out the insect glaive, and its definitely a unique weapon, kinda a cross between the lance and hunting horn i guess. the camera is really a pain to control without a circle pad pro or N3ds though, having to constantly slide my finger around on the lower screen. Also makes aiming the marking shot form the insect glaive more trouble than its worth imo.

On another note I have spare demo codes if anyone need one, they're Australian though.

Is it possible to get a couple codes for me and my friend? We never got an email from them and we've been looking for a couple days now for extra codes. :/
Would be appreciated.

So I bought MH3U during the post-Hannukah sale and started playing it this week; I just started the 2-star quests, using the dual blades that you whirl around like Kratos. Pretty fun; I can see why this is such a thing.

Apparently yesterday Gamestop ran out of MH4U New 3DS bundles. I'm actually surprised it lasted as long as it did considering the fact Majora's Mask New 3DS sold out in seconds and it doesn't even come bundled with the game. I even waiting two days after the direct to preorder the bundle, I decided if I should wait to get the New 3DS or just go a head and get one.

Do you actually have some extra codes? I'm at NA and is the game good if I'm probably going to play single player most of the time?

I don't have any myself but there are a couple other NA people here who may still have some.

As for only playing single player, it's definitely doable, you'll run into a challenge when you get to G Rank, but G Rank quests can still be done alone. However, since it's got online play you can always team up with some people to do harder quests.
