• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

I've been looking at these games for a while are they good?

You're bound to get incredibly biased answers to that question by asking in this thread.

Yes, they are good, but they are challenging and the learning curve is steep. But there aren't really any other games like Monster Hunter (besides the games that have tried to copy it).

The majority of people here on this thread are gonna answer yes. I still consider myself new to the series as MH3U is the first game I played. I never heard about this series until it was announced, by watching the gameplay trailer for it at I think E3 2013, which really got me interested.

It's true this game has a real steep learning curve. Try getting a demo code for MH4U if you can, you could resort to getting MH3U demo from the eShop which is free. It's slightly different due to having different features but in general it's exactly the same. Try out all the different weapons and see which one best suit's you. Some are more easy to use while some take time to master, my suggestion would be to start out with either the Sword & Shield or the Dual Blades as though two are beginner friendly. This game is pretty massive on content, so many items to collect and craft, craft better weapons and armor, and a larger variety of monsters to fight.

SnS and DS are not really that beginner friendly, especially not the DS. Dual Swords is very nuanced and takes a lot of skill to use well, the best beginner weapon would the Long Sword. Easy to use, good power, and has a dodge built right into the combo.

I don't have any myself but there are a couple other NA people here who may still have some.

As for only playing single player, it's definitely doable, you'll run into a challenge when you get to G Rank, but G Rank quests can still be done alone. However, since it's got online play you can always team up with some people to do harder quests.

I wasn't sure if there was much for single player as it typically always seem like a mmo or multiplayer heavy most of the time and the fact my internet isn't that good most of the time. Thanks for the info :)

There's technically more single player content than there is multiplayer, as the entirety of the multiplayer quests can be done solo, they're just more difficult because they're supposed to be done with more people.

Yeah, there's plenty to do if you're just doing it single-player, and I've managed to beat a bunch of g-rank multiplayer quests by myself in MH3U. But it's more fun and at times manageable imo to play with friends.

Also I still have a couple of MH4U demo codes for Australia.

I got a Monster Hunter 4 demo code, and I'm not going to use it, so if anyone wants it, hit me up in PM

Also, if this is the wrong place to offer it, I'm sorry and please delete my post

I've been playing MH 3 for my 3ds lately, really like it so far. Just got the MH 4 demo and I hope to download it this weekend and give it a whirl.

Got it memorized?
I have an extra demo code for 4U: A071BHQ10BYYJKW5
Let me know if you use it so I can edit this post.

The game is out! For nearly a day now!

I'm really enjoying it, haha. Taking a break after playing it a fair bit. Even with my Australian internet I have found the online I have played really stable and enjoyable! The new version of free hunt (expeditions) is much better imo (randomised areas! Rusted items!), and the small improvements are good too (from vouchers going straight to the box, to a box actually being right by the quest exit for solo hunts).

I've been using the longsword and moreso the charge blade (I upgraded the latter twice fairly early). May also start using the insect glaive some for hunts, I enjoy those two new weapons while longsword is just something I liked using in MH3U, haha. I like the indication that there's a better story here as well, and the dialogue is pretty great. Got up to HR3 in solo recently (HR1 was really short...) but not much beyond that.

I've been enjoying it so far, only got up to the 2* Village quests. Fought Steltas before stopping last night and let me say that fighting it with a Bone Blade was super annoying. Gonna be doing some Guild quests with a friend today.

Looks like I won't be getting my MH4U N3DS XL until Monday or Tuesday. Makes me wish I just went ahead and bought the game and New 3DS XL separately so I can play already.
I guess I'll go back to playing the demo until it arrives :/

I don't think there's anything quite as satisfying as nailing a monster in the face with a maximum power element discharge from the charge blade.

I messed around with that weapon for a while, but eventually switched back to my usual choice of bowguns, and realized my hunts were taking almost half the time to finish, so I think I need to get better at it...
