Mortal Kombat: Armageddon (This is BIG!)

Finally it is confirmed, one last Mortal Kombat game for the current generation (Xbox, PS2). The team is using this to "wipe the slate clean on the current generation of game consoles and move onto next generation systems after this game" So it looks as if Mortal Kombat will be going through some big changes after this.

Armageddon is basically an MK Trilogy 2, it features EVERY Mortal Kombat character ever, all new and redesigned in full 3D glory. I don't have the scans to post, but I will point out that Rain and Reiko inparticulary look like whole new characters and are very, very awesome. Rain no longer looks like a pallete swap of Sub-Zero, but now more like a Shogan-esque Ninja. And just to further clarify this, every MK character means the game has over 60 playable characters. The character select screen actually has to rotate to fit them all in. (Apparantly Motaro is the only character that may not make the cut.. who knows why)

The game also features an extensive create a character move, create a fatality, has a new Shaolin Monks style Konquest mode (essentially an RPG set in the MK universe), has hundreds upon hundreds of new krypt unlockables, an actual throw system, air combos, online play.

And is scheduled for release in October on PS2 and Xbox. I know Mortal Kombat is still pretty much shunned by "real gamers". But say what you want, apart from it having a rather antiquated "dial-a-combo" system, this game looks AMAZING.

Cool. Sucks that it isn't available on the Gamecube, though, but I know why it isn't gonna be on the Cube, though. :/

Anyways, I was waiting for this moment in a Mortal Kombat game, when I finally get to pick my all-time favorite, Sindel, again. ;-;

Note: I didn't buy "Deception".

I'm a Mortal Kombat fan, so this has got me excited.

Having a game "wipe the slate clean on the current generation of game consoles and move onto next generation systems after this game" is in my opinion, a smart move. Much like Marvel's House of M (in which 90% of the world's mutants lost their powers), this will allow for a "new" beginning. Seeing as how the game will feature every character (if that's true, that's insane), many will probably be killed off in an event of "armageddon"-type proportions.

So we keep a few of the favorites, add a few new ones, and we have ourselves some gaming-goodness for the next generation. Armageddon should be an amazingly good time.

Woah! This is going to be big. Do you have a official source? (I just want to know where this news came from.)

You should post some pics, as I'm a huge fan of the almost unknown 'Rain' character. I never knew why I liked him so much, maybe it's because he was the 'purple ninja' and I used to think 'purple was cool' when I was little (I played Mortal Kombat III Ultimate when I was real little, and Rain was on that game.).

Well, finally We have a Mortal Kombat game with a good title that describes what the game is like. But please for everyones sake, don't let the RPG mode thing be as bad as the one on Soul Calibur 3:Chronicles of the sword mode.

Sounds really good. ^_^
But I doubt this one would get a medal from EGM, either. My opinion by the last MK games that didn't get a medal either.

If you played Deception, it had a pretty good Conquest mode, it was quite clearly rushed and put together fairly quickly, it had bad dialogue and fairly cheesy voice acting (which may have been intentional) but it was still quite a lot of fun to explore the MK universe and see all the different realms. With some work it could be even better. It was infinitly better than anymode Soulcalibur or Tekken have tried to tack on anyway. I still cry when I think about Devil within mode..

And the source came from MK: Outworld, I believe they have scans from the Game informer magazine, but they may have been taken down. http://www.mkoutworld.net/

"wiping the slate clean" gives me somewhat mixed feelings though. One one side, it's a good thing. They can completely finish off most characters storylines and get rid of the ones that nobody likes. But on the other hand, most of the new characters the Mortal Kombat guys have been coming up with, haven't exactly been fantastic. Kobra, Kira, Jarek, Darious, etc. All awful replacements of characters that didn't need replaced. Boon has said that as long as he's making Mortal Kombat, Scorpion and Sub-Zero will always be in the games at least. But I just hope they start putting in a little more effort into the new characters, and stop completely replacing most of them every game.

And there's Rain, the last of the Ninjas to get a complete make over, and they've managed to make him look just as awesome as the rest of them. If nothing else, the character designer can really do the ninjas well.

Wait, DK is playable? Khameleon was not on the list. Will she be playable?

Always liked the MK games. Thought deception would have been great if not for the errors, and infinites. Incorporating Shaolin Monks is good, just improve on whatever the game had. For example, give different characters different stories-- Kung Lao called Sub Zero Liu Kang instead.

I wonder if there is actually a coherent story, r if this is just fanservice without a storyline?

The character do have proper stories :)

The game is mostly to finish off all the characters storylines, so they can start fresh with the next game, on the next generation of consoles. So even if they do botch it next gen, and have nothing but new characters that nobody likes, at least we'll have Armageddon as one absoloutly massive, real MK game.
