Finally it is confirmed, one last Mortal Kombat game for the current generation (Xbox, PS2). The team is using this to "wipe the slate clean on the current generation of game consoles and move onto next generation systems after this game" So it looks as if Mortal Kombat will be going through some big changes after this.
Armageddon is basically an MK Trilogy 2, it features EVERY Mortal Kombat character ever, all new and redesigned in full 3D glory. I don't have the scans to post, but I will point out that Rain and Reiko inparticulary look like whole new characters and are very, very awesome. Rain no longer looks like a pallete swap of Sub-Zero, but now more like a Shogan-esque Ninja. And just to further clarify this, every MK character means the game has over 60 playable characters. The character select screen actually has to rotate to fit them all in. (Apparantly Motaro is the only character that may not make the cut.. who knows why)
The game also features an extensive create a character move, create a fatality, has a new Shaolin Monks style Konquest mode (essentially an RPG set in the MK universe), has hundreds upon hundreds of new krypt unlockables, an actual throw system, air combos, online play.
And is scheduled for release in October on PS2 and Xbox. I know Mortal Kombat is still pretty much shunned by "real gamers". But say what you want, apart from it having a rather antiquated "dial-a-combo" system, this game looks AMAZING.
