Most popular non-battleable characters?

Lord Godwin

Since the majority of Pokemon Characters are also trainers and we can battle at some point they are included as fan favorites (Most siginificant being Gym Leaders, Elite Four, Champions and Rivals) There are only few siginificant characters who we cannot battle against.

Who do you consider as most popular non-battleable characters within Pokemon games?

Which of those would you want to battle? What Teams can you see than with?

As of right now I'd say that Sonia seems to be quite popular despite her not being battleable. She has Wanpachi (Yamper) if I remember right, but Sonia herself doesn't actually battle in Shield and Sword. I'd give her tons of cute Pokemon as part of her team, or else make her an Electric-type specialist.

I also believe Sonia is one of these for The current gen. I can totally see Her with a Giga Butterfree:)
Im wondering if we will fight Mustard (prior Champion hype) and The Crown Tundra expedition Leader.

Some more popular prior ones would include Looker, Charon, Daisy Oak, most of Seven Sages, Mr. Brionne. Should we count Lillie?

Sonia has a good design. But its more that its disappointing that she can't be battled, than she is someone who is interesting despite not being a battler. We know that she's a strong trainer, but never get to experience that battle. Since we're told that she was a tough rival for Leon at some point, but only see one of her pokemon. Plus, she suffers from SwSh's generally shallow and rushed plot.

Mr Briney probably my favourite. This old geezer who is incredible loyal and passionate about his pokemon, and who will happily ferry you around for saving his Peeko. Not just out of loyalty, but out of love for the open sea. I'm glad he got to become a brave captain again, rather than just sitting in his little house forever.

It does kinda annoy me that SwSh didn't bring back a single NPC from older games.

I've always wanted to battle against the Sages (barring Ghetsis) during B/W postgame before they are arrested by Looker. I'd love to see them use full teams of Pokemon with the body colour matching the one the Sages are meant to represent, for example, Bronius using a team of Fearow, Mamoswine, Ursaring, Relicanth, Crustle and Excadrill, i.e. the Pokemon that are classified as brown in the Dex.
That sounds like a really nice idea!!!:)
