I was having a bit of a problem over the past few weekse trying to find a decent Grass Type. I posted in the RMT fourm and got a lot of ideas. But it got me curious about soemthing. I am insterested in seeing what grass Types, if any, you guys use in your teams, In or out of game. I want to try and stay away from all the starter Grass Types, but I did leave a space for them in the poll. So vote away!

To start, I usually dont use grass types because still have the R/B/G/Y and G/S/C mentality that you can cover the weakness that grass would cover with other and better types, so I do not usually use grass Types. But after getting my butt kicked (quite hard) at PRA last year by a Swamperet, I decided that I was wrong and had to get to grass type into my team. So I decided to go with Exeggutor.

Can't say I ever used a grass type on any of my teams. For the battle factory, I recommend the following pokemon:

Meganium
- double team
- leech seed
- substitute

Ludicolo
- leech seed

Sceptile
- leaf blade

Cradily

Why choose grass types in battle factory? for those impossible to die water/ground pokemon types such as swampert, quagsire & whiscash and even wailord.

Well, it might be easier to ask what are the grass Pokémon I don't use. I haven't tried the Exegg-/Hoppip line yet. Roselia and Tropius for breeding, starters to play the story through, Tangela and Cradily as semi-tanks sometimes, Oddish as a HM slave, and the new combo of Dark and Grass is nice (I used Cacturne in my first-ever Sapphire team). And finally there's a Grass Pokémon that's not weak to fire and ice: Ludicolo.

One grass type missing from the list is shroomish/breloom as I won silver symbol in battle factory with the spore/focuspunch/irontail version.

I didnt add the Shroomish line to the list because its not a real Grass Type (IE doesnt use any grass Attacks). Sorry :(

He ... don't use ... grass move? What the heck are mega drain, giga drain, spore, leech seed, stun spore and absorb? It's fight/grass. If this line isn't pure grass, then what the heck the Lotad line, the Oddish and Belsprout line are on the poll, along as other dual type?

As for me, I use Shromish line.

Nobody decent with the game uses Breloom as an attacking Grass type. Its Special Attack is just too low to support any use of Giga Drain or Thunderpunch. The Grass support moves are nice, but any damaging Grass move on Breloom is definitively a waste of a moveslot.

Anyways, I'm opting for either Ludicolo or Exeggutor. Ludicolo can dish out major damage with Rain Dance, Swift Swim, and Surf, all the while using its STAB Giga Drain to fend off Swampert and his Water/Ground ilk. For the last slot, you're probably best off using Ice Beam to repel that Salamence or hurt it on the switch, but Thunderpunch might work if you are more wary about Gyarados ruining your fun. Also, Swift Swim >>>>>>>> Rain Dish, so go with Swift Swim.

Exeggutor does a Sunnybeaming set that needs a Hidden Power to be of utmost effectiveness. Basically, it goes Sleep Powder/Sunny Day/Solarbeam/HP [Fire/Ice]. Use Fire for the added attack power on account of Sunny Day and to cover many of the Pokemon against which Solarbeam is ineffective (Metagross and Skarmory most notably), while HP Ice can nail almost everything that HP Fire can't cover (Salamence is the biggie here). Either way, you'll still be up the creek without a paddle against Gyarados, with his base 100 Special Defence and neutrality to Grass attacks. Not sure about this, but I would tend to think that Exeggutor would lose out to HP Flying.

Also, if you want a staller set (ew), take a look at Sub/Blade/HPIce/Seed Sceptile. Not a favorite of mine, though.

If you are going for Special Sweeping, Sceptile is perfect,
-Thunderpunch
-Leaf Blade
-Crunch
-HP Psychic

Annoyence is Ludicolo's job,
-Leech Seed
-Rain Dance
-Giga Drain
-Surf
@Leftovers Of course!

Jumpluff is for speed,
-Arial Ace/HP Flying
-Leech Seed
-Sleep Powder
-Sludge Bomb

Excecutor is for Sp Attack,
-Sunny Day
-Solarbeam
-Hypnosis
-Dream Eater

Cacturne is another annoyer
-Sandstorm
-Double Team
-Giga Drain
-Leech Seed
Holding either the Lax Incence or the Leftovers

Breloom... Well... Just Rocks!
Broomish@ ?? Depends
Nature-Jolly
Evs-252 Attack, 6 Sp Def, 252 Speed
-Spore
-Focus Punch
-Leech Seed
-Hp Ghost or Sludge Bomb

Hope this helps some?

What? Breloom is a great Pokemon, and the Shroomish line is one I use often. Breloom aided me well in beating the League on Ruby. Go with a good Breloom or Tropius. I have raised a couple of those for breeding, and they are very good. Good luck :)

As Eszett said, Breloom cannot use Grass Type Moes Effectivly!!!! I was looking for grass types that can USE grass attacks. Breloom is no use agianst Swampert or any other water, ground, or ground type with a Fighting attack. That is why I didnt add it to the list

I get really annoyed about venusaur, venusaur's only decent attack is sludgebomb, and its stat doesn't back it up. Also the only grass move that's good is Leaf Blade and only one gets it IIRC, so I reccomend it. Everything else is crap. Solarbeam is worse than fly, at least with fly, you can dodge most attacks (except thunder and sky upper).

If you really want a grass type (highly advised not to) use Houndoom's sunny beam combo. And of course Exeggutor's good. I only wish it didn't get such a great attack stat, makes me cry to hinder it.

My Venusaur has served me well on the BF

Sleep Powder
Leech Seed
Giga Drain
Substitute

When something comes along that can actually put a dent in his defenses I stall with Substitute.. The combination of Leech Seed, Giga Drain and Leftovers gives the HP back.

I used the Shroomish line in Emerald, it can use grass type effectively, it is Grass/Fight, it still gets STAB for grass attacks.

In my LG game, I used Parasect though, you forgot that one too.

So I can put an end to "you for 'x' Pokemon!!": I only could have 10 slots for a poll. I placed the usual and semi-to-best well known grass types I coudl think of.

As I would have hoped you guys would have seen, I DID place an other tap for the other pokemon I couldnt add to the list. If you use something that I didnt add to the poll, just use that and then SAY what you have in a post.

And b-i-gaskme "G.R.O.UDON", this isnt net battle, which, after reading your post, I assume you are focusing on. Grass types are underused, hence why I made this poll. I really wanted to see what would happen. and if Houndoom's sunny beam combo was such a good combo (not saying it horrible; it does have its place), tell me how Houndoom will be able to pull that combo off against a Swamperet, who has two attacks that can exploit its weaknesses?
