Movepool Question

What? Exactly
i have many times tried to argue with my brother that pokemon in the anime and manga can only have four moves. He thinks that no such limit applies. His favorite pokemon is Smeargle and he thinks that it can have all ten of its scetched moves at once. i told him that is rediculous. can someone tell me the answer to this question so that i can stop this arguement?

So hot he's on fire.
I don't think they do in the anime. :/

There's no logical reason for them to only be able to know four moves at one time.

Well I don't know about the four moves in anime because Ash's Pokemon have used several moves and combinations. Your brother is crazy to like Smeargle. He's pathetic and Smeargle is so weak no matter how you train him. No way can you use all moves at once. Is your brother a minor? It's understandable since "Kids say the darnest things." If he isn't, he has problems.

If I remember correctly (which I may not, since it's been years since I've seen the anime), Ash's Pikachu knew and used more than four moves in one battle. If that's true, then there most likely isn't a limit. In the anime, there's no need for a limit anyways. The only reason it's in the game is to keep it from being unbalanced.

In the Anime, they can have as many Moves as they want. Few are used in a regular basis, though. And some might be even forgotten for lack of use.

The Dragonite Ash battles in Orange League has a grand total of 6 Moves: Thunderbolt, Water Gun, Fly, Slam, Seismic Toss and Hyper Beam. Maybe some others I forgot.

In the game, however, you have 4 moves, and ONLY 4 Moves. No more.

he's my younger brother, so yeah. he's thirteen, but he doesn't like moves like you're thinking he would give it Transform, Taunt, Conversion 2, and the three ultimate attacks.

Grass Guardian

Rags to Riches
Ash's Pikachu knows Iron Tail, Agility, Thunder Bolt, Thunder, Quick attack, and it used swift in one episode.

Charizard knosw Flame Thrower, Fire Spin, Slam, Seismic Toss, and Fly (o.0 don't know if that counts)

Skitty can use Tackle, Assist, Double Slap, Blizzard, and I believe there was another, but can't think of it.

-_-

What I find pathetic is the inability to grasp the concept of liking a Pokémon for some other reason than its battling abilities. I'm sorry, but you disgust me.

Anyway, as people have said, there have apparently been cases in the animé where Pokémon have used more than four moves in one and the same battle.

Forever learning!
I wondered about that too once... But yeah, in the anime I believe there's not really a limit to the number of moves a Pokémon can learn. In the game, however, that limit is needed to keep things in balance. Pokémon with smaller movepools would probably not stand a chance. Not to mention the game would not be able to take that load of data... o.o
