Detonate - Antiquities, Mirrodin, 4th, 5th Edition. Uncommon
XR: Sorcery
Targets any artifact; X is the casting cost of target artifact. Target artifact is destroyed, and Detonate does X points of damage to artifact's controller. Artifact creatures destroyed in this manner may not be regenerated.
-----
Bury target artifact. Detonate deals X damage to the artifacts controller, where X is the casting cost of the artifact.
-----
Bury target artifact with total casting cost equal to X. Detonate deals X damage to that artifact's controller.
-----
Destroy target artifact with converted mana cost X. It can't be regenerated. Detonate deals X damage to that artifact's controller.
The goblins have forty-two different words for "ow."
Oct 4, 2004 - If the artifact becomes an illegal target before resolution, then no damage is done.

I guess I'll start adding in those "extra rules" just for info. Anyways...

Pretty cool. This is basically Blaze, accept it destroys an artifact in the process. This card should atleast be in the sideboard just incase you play vs any artifact decks if you don't know what your opponent is playing. If you're drafting Red in Mirrodin, this card is a MUST.

The Duck's Rating: 2/5

Not...Pigeons....
Actually, even in mirrodin, this card is OK at best. In limited, it goes up considerably in value. Outside of, no. The thing is, they have to have an artifact with a cmc of X for it to be worth anything at all. So, to kill an artifact + damage, youre paying R + the cmc of that artifact.

Its a sorcery though. So, its not that great. Too slow for any speeding red deck, which is most. Shatter or smash do the job just as well, and smash is a cantrip if I remember right.

So, this gets about a 2/5. There are better, but hey, if you need arti destruction, and have no other means of doing it, this card becomes playable. In some places.

A decent card, destroying artifacts is decent, but the cost you have to pay to destroy one with this card is really bad, though the damage effect is nice.Seriously just stick to Shatter unless you face Affinity allot. 2/5

This thing winds drafts. Constructed, you're definitely better off with Oxodize, Rack and Ruin, or Smash. Instants are always better then Soceries, even if this one happens to deal damage.

A good trick in Mirrordin draft used to be- take the Detonate, pass off the high cost bomby artifact. I don't know how many times I passed off Platinum Angels or Clockwork Dragons for Detonate and killed people who were foolish enough to take the bait.
