It's like Devouring Light. Except without Convoke. And costs 1 more. And you gain life.

You could gain a handfull of life with this card. This is quite a contraversy.

This card can be useful especially against my friends Serra Avatar deck. Stupid him having 300 plus life. 3/5

w00t! This card can really work against beatdown. You see that 40/40 Arcbound Crusher coming? Splat. The only downside is the cost, but meh. Awe Strike costs only one mana and does nearly the same thing except not destroying the creature. Still good though. 3.5/5.

I think the soul point of the card is to destroy the creature ;-)

This card is really good, and is useful in emergency situations like that example Pikachuism pointed out. There are cards with cheaper costs, but I say that it would be nice to have an extra Chastise or two in case of emergency.

True, you might want to destroy the creature, but in my line, saving your rear end from destruction comes first. ANd usually at the end of turns, I have only a few mana left......I work on a tight budget, so sue me. Anyway, this card can really be put to use on non-mana-intensive decks. I might find one someday. >_<
