My Fire Red Team

L0rD

Boulder Trainer
Ok, lemme start this right now here. I don't care about EV's, IV's or whatever, or Natures. So don't tell me what I should have for a certain nature. I just want to beat this game. For nature, I will leave it to Netbattling. Not in-game though.

Ok, after that pathetic rant, here I go. I need help with my team that I am building to beat the Elite 4's second wave.

Here is my team:

;148; Dragonair Lv. 43 (Still in training to a Dragonite)
Slam
Thunder Wave
Dragon Rage
Twister

Ok. Here is the scoop here. I need a moveset for him. I don't know if I should go Physical Sweeper, Special Sweeper, or a Mix of the two, since both Sp. Atk and Atk are high.

;150; Mewtwo Lv. 70(Will get a higher level)
Thunderbolt
Psychic
Recover
Safeguard

When I get enough money, I am going to buy Ice Beam and Flamethrower from the Game Corner. Should I go TBolt, Phychic, Flamethrower, and Ice Beam/Surf, for a full out Sp. Sweeper, or leave one out and keep Recover?

;065; Alakazam Lv. 67
Calm Mind
Psychic
Shock Wave
Double Team

I know, terrible moveset, but for me, it actually works, so I am just training him up.

;009; Blastoise Lv. 64
Rest
Surf
Substitute
Ice Beam'

I know, he should be a tank. I dunno, I am stupid. LOL Also still training.

;094; Gengar Lv. 62
Hypnosis
Dream Eater
Shadow Punch
Shadow Ball

Ok, I know, terrible. I WANT it changed. So, tell me, Shadow Ball or Shadow Punch? What will I replace for the other one? In other words, just give me a better moveset.

;043; Oddish Lv. 16(DUH! Still in training)
Sunny Day
Solarbeam
Absorb(Sleep Powder when I get to Lv. 18)
Sweet Scent(Moonlight at Lv. 35 while Gloom)

Ok, this is my moveset, nough said. It works, and I am using it. This is the only Poke I do not really want help on.

UPDATE: Blastoise now knows Rest, instead of Skull Bash.

Special sweeper is probably better vs. the E4; something along the lines of Flamethrower/Ice Beam/Thunderbolt/Thunder Wave would be good enough or maybe Surf to combat Gary's Tyranitar.

;150; Mewtwo Lv. 70(Will get a higher level)
Thunderbolt
Psychic
Recover
Safeguard

Yea, iirc he can just about sweep the E4 alone, and that set looks good to do it, but replace Safeguard with another special move like you said to maximize its sweeping potential.

;065; Alakazam Lv. 67
Calm Mind
Psychic
Shock Wave
Double Team

I know, terrible moveset, but for me, it actually works, so I am just training him up.

Replace crappy Double Team with something that you can actually use to make head-way. Recover would be better but since you already passed it up, Reflect?

;009; Blastoise Lv. 64
Skull Bash
Surf
Substitute
Ice Beam'

I know, he should be a tank. I dunno, I am stupid. LOL Also still training.

If you want him to tank, you could use Rest, which would actually work pretty well with Sub.

;094; Gengar Lv. 62
Hypnosis
Dream Eater
Shadow Punch
Shadow Ball

Thunderbolt and Psychic are good moves vs. the E4 which can pretty much handle the first 3 with ease and will put a dent in Lance and Gary. Too bad you deleted Destiny Bond; it combos well with Revive :p

;043; Oddish Lv. 16(DUH! Still in training)
Sunny Day
Solarbeam
Absorb(Sleep Powder when I get to Lv. 18)
Sweet Scent(Moonlight at Lv. 35 while Gloom)

At a glance you might have problems with Gary's Alakazam and Tyranitar, but Mewtwo is going to be your workhorse and will probably sweep with Revive and Full Restore support.

Thanks alot Reggie Steele, you helped a ton. Oh, and I can get back any level-up move I want because of the Move Tutor guy, which I can get past moves that i passed up.

So, for Gengar, Destiny Bond, T-Bolt, Psychic, and Shadow Ball?

And for Alakazam, I will replace Double Team with Recover or Reflect, I dunno.

For Blastoise, how do I get Rest? Is it a TM? Or does he learn it?

Oh, for some reason I thought that guy was only in R/S. Well that's good; get Destiny Bond on Gar and maybe Confuse Ray while you're at it.

Shadow Ball on Gengar is pretty weak, even in-game. I would use the move tutor to give it Confuse Ray instead, which can help you in a battle of attrition.

Either could work; Recover gives you more staying power against special users (and can conserve your Full Restores), but Reflect means you can actually take a physical hit.

It's TM44 iirc. It's a valuable one that you might want to save for your "final team," but it would help in making Blastoise a tank like you said you wanted.

Gengar is good, but try for one of the punches over Shadow Ball (Ice Punch or Fire Punch, doesn't really matter). Of course, you'll need Emerald for these. Otherwise, Shadow Ball works (STAB), or you could do Confuse Ray or Hypnosis.

With Alakazam, I would suggest Reflect. It'll help out the rest of the team, and since he can't really take a hit, Recover isn't going to help much.

You need TM 44 for Rest. Couldn't tell you where to find it though. Definitely put that over Skull Bash.

Otherwise the team looks pretty good. Definitely go with a special Dragonite (Reggie's set is fine, although Dragon Claw would be good for STAB). I would say go with Flamethrower > Safeguard on Mewtwo, that can get boosted by Sunny Day. Speaking of which, your Oddish can go either way. Bellossom has better SpDef, but Vileplume has better SpAtk and can get Aromatherapy if you need it later. Your team should do great with a little bit of fine-tuning!

Well, with my Oddish/Gloom/Vileplume, Sunny Day puts up the Sun, yada yada yada. Then, with that up, Solarbeam only takes 1 turn to pull off, which is great. Also, Moonlight recovers my health fully with Sunny Day in effect. And Sleep Powder makes it all easier. Oh, and Sunny Day doubles Vileplume's speed because of Chlorophyll, giving it a 400 Base Speed, and making it one of the fastest Pokemon in the game.

I know how that set works. But, Bellossom has Clorophyll too, so it could potentially use that set as well. Basically, you decision should be based on whether you want Vileplume's slightly higher SpAtk and Aromatherapy, or Bellossom's slightly higher SpDef.

Well, whatever, I'll just use Vileplume, it doesn't matter. Oh, and I put Rest on Blastoise, I found out I had it anyway. LOL

This team will take me awhile to make it correct, since I have to pick up a buttload of T-Bolts, Flamethrowers, Ice Beams, etc.

I'll update when I get things.
