Save as PNG, these are all JPGfied.
Anyway, about the actual sprites. Its good for a first time, but you should have made completely custom shading, the shading on the body is the same as the original, but without the dithering.
The outline could also use a little work. It looks like you used too much black, try adeding more colored outline, maybe even throw in one more lighter outline color aswell.
great for your first try, though. Most of the new ones Ive seen lately are recolors.
