My Future Platinum Team

Since I hope to get Pokémon Platinum when it comes out, I decided to prepare a team in advance. Fyi, before you attempt to destroy the team (idea), I am not planning on EV training this team, as I will only progress through the game with this team, I doubt I'll be doing anything special with them in the aftermath. Also, don't be that surprised that I stated their genders; I saved the game before I hatched them specifically so I know what genders I'll be having and then I soft reset to put the eggs in the PC ready for transfer. Credit goes to Bulbapedia for the sprites.

The basic outlook is as follows:

Details: This Infernape will "replace" the one I'll be getting from Rowan, as it were. I originally planned a physical hitting Infernape, but since I gave up on getting myself a HP Rock Cherubi (too tedious and time consuming), I decided to try raising a special attacking Infernape. Flamethrower for STAB, Vacuum Wave for finishing move, Grass Knot to eventually tackle Bertha and other heavy Rock/Ground/Water types. Nasty Plot for Sp Atk boost.

Nickname: Barlow

Details: Pretty basic Chomp with similar moves as his father. Dragon Claw for reliabile STAB, Brick Break over Stone Edge for Ice types, Swords Dance for Atk boost and EQ for STAB. Swords Dance for Atk boost.

Details: Another standard set. Spark for STAB and slightly more accuracy over Thunder Fang, Ice Fang for Grounds and Dragons, and Crunch and Return for filler, basically.

Details: Calm Mind up and sweep, somewhat at least. Psychic for STAB, Shadow Ball for Ghosts and rival Psychics (Lucian), Focus Blast for Dark types (or something else suggested).

Details: Bred with my TWave NPlot GKnot Raichu. Nasty plot up, Air Slash for STAB and flinch hax (with Serene Grace), Aura Sphere for Rock + Ice coverage, Thunder Wave for paralysis. Simple, yet annoying.

Edited Details: Rebred. Waterfall for STAB, Crunch for filler, Brick Break for rival Empoleon and Ice Punch for Grasses and dragons.

So, there you have it; my future Pokémon Platinum team, both in a nutshell and in depth. Any suggestions are appreciated, but no EV spreads, please; I won't EV train this team.

Brick Break is not really needed considering Ape CAN sweep the Ice Gym all by itself :p
Though an extra Brick Break won't hurt ;)


Instead of Charge, why not try Fire Fang? Two Spark has equal power to a Charge then Spark iirc, so using Charge is not really worth it.


Alakazam is fine.

On Chatot, Heat Wave instead of Roost maybe?

Floatzel is fine.

Chatot really does need Heat Wave if you can get it. She has such terrible Hp/Defenses, so there's no point to be using Roost.

If I wanted Brick Break on Garchomp, would it be a good idea to get rid of Stone Edge for it in order to keep Swords Dance?

The only problem with getting Fire Fang is that I'd need to breed Shinx again, but it's not that much of a bother.

Yeah, I was thinking about Heat Wave, so that'll be possible once I find the guy who teaches it and once I have enough shards to pay for it. Not a problem, since I like digging underground.

Should I go for Brick Break or Aqua Jet on Floatzel?

For Floatzel, I would use Brick Break for coverage. You already have Waterfall on her, so go with Brick Break.

Luxray looks fine except for Charge. Charge doesn't really offer Luxray much, as you can just use Spark twice in a row.

I would go for Superpower/Return instead.

Update: I have decided to rebreed for Buizel just so it could have Brick Break as an inherited move. The gender is still female, and still Jolly (Thank god for Everstone), so nothing changes there.

Also, I'm thinking of replacing my Chatot egg - since I can't teach it Heat Wave until I beat the E4 and I can't wait that long - with something else, but I don't know what to get in its place. Help, please?

And, as a random note, I've come up with nicknames for my other 5 Pokémon, so I know what to nickname them when they hatch on Platinum. They are as follows:
Chimchar = Alexa (named after a fan character of mine)
Shinx = Keith
Gible = Barlow
Buizel = Rhythmi
Abra = Hastings
(Pokémon Ranger 2 reference names ftw!)

If I choose to replace Chatot - which may be after suggestions for alternative Pokémon are posted - I will give that one a PR2 nickname. Otherwise, it'll be Crawford the Chatot.

Sorry, but in Platinum you can only nickname (I think) up to 6 English letters. You will have to shorten or come up with new nicknames.

Isn't that only for the Japanese version, since you said 6 English letters? My team is for the English version of the game.

Can anyone suggest replacements for Chatot please? I want to have my team properly ready for March.

If you don't plan on using this team for anything other than to just advance through the game, then why not save time and transfer over some ubers?

Pretty decent moveset, but I don't know how to get that moveset without using up TMs. If I can figure out how to get that moveset, I'll consider it, certainly.

Otherwise, any other suggestions (even if they're physical hitters) are appreciated.

Well, togekiss... yah, i love it, i use it for competitive battling and it works, this my own
set, maybe it gets screwed by the "pros" but all i know is that it worked for me XD

Togekiss @ Choice Scarf(for flinch)/Quick Claw(still for flinch but when u need moar options)

-Air Slash (flinch magic)
-Aura Sphere
-Nasty Plot
-> firt use one nasty plot, dont worry, 'kiss can handle it, and then proceed to sweep,
and i mean it, i've destroyed entire teams with just this 'kiss.

^Nasty Plot is useless with Choice Scarf = =
Leftovers > Choice Scarf and find a place for Thunder Wave as opponent is going after you if paralyzed, so you can flinch them.

I've considered getting Togekiss for my Platinum game before; I've also opted for Chimchar, Abra and Shinx as well. I suppose I could put Togepi back into the list.

@ hOuOugIa: iirc, the Togepi I bred had Thunder Wave, since I bred it with my Pikachu, who has the moveset of Thunder Wave, Thunderbolt, Grass Knot and Nasty Plot.
