My Pokémon Training / Sapphire - GreenLeaf - Emerald Versions

I open this topic with the intention of getting your advice with my Pokémon training.

I'm going to train a FERALIGATR, it will be a physical sweeper. I looked on the section "Pokémon of the week" but it's not included there.

So, I have few question:

1) Which nature should I use? I've think about using the LONELY or the ADAMANT nature, which is better?

2) How should I distribute the EV's? I've think about maximize ATTACK and SPEED, but maybe you could tell me something better (exact numbers please)

3) Third but not less important... what moves should I make it learn? I'm sure EARTHQUAKE is a good move for him, but I'll take your advice

That's all, once again, thanks to all of you.

^_______^ FERALIGATR!!!!! 8D It's a GREAT Pokemon. :3 it will serve you well.

Feraligatr isn't really a sweeper. Sweepers have high speeds, and Gatr unforunetly isn't THAT fast.

Feraligatr (Adamant/Brave Nature) @Leftovers
EVs: 252 Attack, 100 Speed, 44 Sp.Attack, 114 Hp (somethin' like that)
-EQ
-Rock Slide/Aerial Ace (AA 'cause it's INGAME)
-Swords Dance
-Surf/Hydro Pump

OK... I got your point... I have got to ask some questions due to your post. Here I go:

1) You say FERALIGATR isn't really a sweeper due to it's speed. His SPEED BASE is 78... I think it's not so slow (at least compared with other Pokémon). However, you recommend me BRAVE nature, it would be losing SPEED, isn't the SPEED important?

2) Using ADAMANT nature it lost SP. ATK, but you recommend me SURF or HYDRO PUMP... I'm supposed it's for STAB purposes only... but it's the only explanation I can find

3) I'm sure FERALIGATR can resist a THUNDER or a SOLARBEAM (in normal circumstances)... should I include EV's in SP. DEF?

4) With this moveset you recommend me, what would be wrong with using LONELY nature due to GATR can't be hit by Super-effective physical attacks? Well, it's only my perception...

5) What do you think of a moveset like this:

Feraligatr (Adamanat/Lonely Nature) @ Leftovers (OR Choice Band)
EV's: 6 HP, 252 Attack, 252 Speed
-Swords Dance
-HP Flying OR Aerial Ace
-Brick Break (covers a lot of types plus destructing REFLECT and LIGHT SCREEN) / Focus Punch OR Rock Slide
-Earthquake

I'd be grateful if you could answer my doubts.

Choice Banded Swords Dance owns. -______-

Feraligatr (M) @ Leftovers

Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Earthquake
- Hydro Pump
- Rock Slide
- Swords Dance

I say attack wise Feraligatr should know:
Swords dance
Earthquake
Hydro Pump
Slash

(I know Swords Dance raises attack....but does it raise SP ATK. too? If it only raises ATTACK, that's my reason for slash. Chaos, did you suggest Rock Slide so he could take out Flying type foes? If not, Earthquake and Rock slide together are kinda redundant, b/c they will both easily KO Electric and Fire types....i dunno about Grass tho...ya think Slash would take care of a Grass type?)

if I remember correctly, Earthquake and Rock Slide cover everything except Claydol.

well if thats true then do we really need both moves? Or did you mean the both of them together covers every type but Claydol (I always hated Claydol....>_<)

He means you would best use both moves. Rock Slide is better than Slash anyways.

Nor does it cover Flygon. But it's an excellent combo nonetheless, and covers most things you'll see. Claydol gets Hydro Pumped anyway, BTW.

Can FERALIGATR be a Choice Bander?

With a moveset like this:

FERALIGATR (ADAMANT Nature) @ Choice Band
EV's: 66 HP / 252 Atk / 66 Sp. Def / 126 Speed

-HP Flying OR Aerial Ace
-Rock Slide OR Ancientpower
-Brick Break OR Focus Punch
-Earthquake

It's only a point of view... is it useful or not?

However, you recommend me BRAVE nature, it would be losing SPEED, isn't the SPEED important? Yeah... it kinda is slow. I mean, it out runs a lot, but a lot out run it. Since Gatr isn't a Sweeper, ('cause it's a little too slow), a Brave Nature works.

2) Using ADAMANT nature it lost SP. ATK, but you recommend me SURF or HYDRO PUMP... I'm supposed it's for STAB purposes only... but it's the only explanation I can find Sure. Also, if it's Adamant, Hydro Pump can STILL SORTA pack a punch

3) I'm sure FERALIGATR can resist a THUNDER or a SOLARBEAM (in normal circumstances)... should I include EV's in SP. DEF? hmmm.. more like Hp

4) With this moveset you recommend me, what would be wrong with using LONELY nature due to GATR can't be hit by Super-effective physical attacks? Well, it's only my perception... Lonely is OKAY, but imo, you should have a Nature that subtracts from a stat that isn't necessary. (like Speed or Sp.Attack
o_O think about it. lol I's hope I cleared some stuff up. >_>;

OK, I'll take your advice... now, another question...

If I want to train a FERALIGATR but with emphasys in SPECIAL moves... which should I do?

Maybe MODEST, MILD or QUIET nature should be OK... the moves, what do you think about something like this:

FERALIGATR (MODEST/MILD/QUIET nature) @ LEFTOVERS
EV's: 128 HP / 252 SP. ATK / 130 SPEED

-SURF or HYDRO PUMP
-ICE BEAM or BLIZZARD
-DRAGON CLAW
-CRUNCH

PROS of this FERALIGTR:

1) People don't expect an special FERALIGATR, so it is suprising

2) It's something new, at least to me as TRAINER

3) These 4 moves cover a lot of types (GROUND, ROCK, FIRE, DRAGON, GRASS, FLYING, GHOST, PSYCHIC)

CONS:

1) Base SP. ATK of FERALIGATR

2) Doesn't cover its weakneses to ELECTRIC types

That's all, I'll wait for your answers.

aipomkong

prophecy fulfilled
you don't want a special feraligatr, just use starmie

surf/thunderbolt/ice beam/recover

for physical gatr

Swords Dance
Earthquake
Rock Slide
Focus Punch / Hidden power Bug
@ Leftovers

OK... thanks for your answers.

I have other question:

Bearing in mind the EV training, is there any diference if I evolve TOTODILE & CROCONOW in a level or in other?

I commonly evolve TOTODILE in Lv. 36 and CROCONOW in Lv. 68 to get faster all the moves they learn. Does it interfere in the final STATUS of my FERALIGATR?

That's all, for now.

Not to my knowledge. I held back my Houndour so it would learn Flamethrower before Lv. 50 so that I could use it in the Lv. 50 Competition in the Frontier, and as far as I can tell, its Stats aren't any lower than they should be.

I don't think the stats change from normal leveling. You get more stat increase when you evolve later than you should, meaning that it calculates it for you, I'm not sure about the EV training and how that would carry over though.
