My Ranty Concern

I've looked up to Serebii for Pokedex information, info for episodes I've missed, and other things. I always wished on having a site as successful and helpful as this one.

And now I've notice something here, the shipping fanfics are starting to make me worried about things. A local blog at the site I mostly go on alerted me of that. I read a segment he had there of one called "A Day Inside May". I found that pretty bad, just a small bit of it. I was talking to my friend who read the whole thing. He said the whole story made that segment look like Babar The Elephant.

And if you think 8 year olds will think "Oh that's NC-17. I can't go look", think again. My younger sister didn't obey that and now she knows things she shouldn't. And I know some young people who write and read those. 12 year olds shouldn't be doing that, they're way too young.

You guys are a Pokemon forum. You shouldn't support such a pornish type thing. People trust you. Parents trust you. And I feel you let them down. Maybe I'm a wet blanket, but I know, somewhere, someone feels the same.

It's rated NC-17. It's a warning. Not our fault if people don't follow warnings. They face whatever they see willingly. :/

Besides, most of the fanfics are for more mature members of the forum. If an immature person, such as your younger sister, wants to ignore the rules, and see somthing that she souldn't see, she deserves to have her little mind tainted, as harsh as that may sound. :)

If it's rated NC-17 it is rated NC 17 for a reason. By rating it it thereby gives the forum owners or writers no liability if someone younger than the recommended age range reads it. Your rant is a waste of time as this applies to Real life as much as it does anything else. :/

And aside from that, most of the good writers here are old enough to write things like that, because they got bored of writing about happy fun land. :/

Once again you are mistaking us for something we're not. This is a forum for pokemon fans, not a pokemon forum. There is a distinct difference. Not everyone who comes here is a pokemon fan, but they stay for the community, which is made up of mostly 15+ year olds.

And if you think 8 year olds will think "Oh that's NC-17. I can't go look", think again. My younger sister didn't obey that and now she knows things she shouldn't. And I know some young people who write and read those. 12 year olds shouldn't be doing that, they're way too young.

It's NC-17 so they shouldn't look, if 8 year olds choose to look at things they are being told not to then it's not our problem, perhaps their parents should make it a little more clear. We can't stop them looking, but by putting up proper warnings, we can make sure they they know the content is for certain ages only.

Just because the forum is mostly made up of +15 year olds, does that mean the younger people don't count anymore? I'm 12, yet I'm here, trying to state my point. You're the biggest community of Pokemon fans I've seen. At least 100-200 of the people are below 15.

Like everyone else said, it's not the writers fault that younger people read the NC-17 rated fics, as long as the writers warn them. If you read what the others posted, they never said anything about younger people not mattering or anything like it. It's not the writers' fault that younger children read those fics...

Like this quote.

When did anyone say the younger members didn't count..?
I'm 12, and I have enough self-control to not click on threads which are shown to be for older members, so I can't really see why other people can't resist looking in every little thread which is obviously unsuitable for younger members.

8 year olds should be monitored by their parents while they're on the computer, who should know what NC-17 means and not allow them to read those fic.

Pokemon isn't just for little kids. Note that I am not saying younger fans don't matter, I am saying there are all age groups on this forum, and some things are for older fans and them only.

The idiots on FF.net decided to get rid of NC-17 fic because some younger kids (obviously not being monitored by parents) were reading them, even though there were CLEAR warnings that these fic were not for young children.

The warnings are just as clear here, and kids either need to be watched, or be smart enough not to read things that they shouldn't.

It's quite common sense that if something says that it is NC-17 then if you are a younger kid you do not look at it.

Plus, this is the internet. To be honest, no one's really safe on here.

Willow's Tara

Plus there are ratings in the title mand even in the beginning of the story, if theyread it then its thier own fault, this is a pokemon fourm yes, but some just come for other stuff unlike Pokemon, like Istill like Pokemon right, but I hardly go to the Pokemon fourms but the others ones instead.

We're a forum, not a babysitting service. If a twelve-year-old watches an NC-17 movie on the television, should you complain to the channel? No.

Look 80% of the members are 14+. Like me, I'm 14.
Parents should put up a parental control thing if they think this is just bad.

I agree with Wolf Goddess and RaZor LeAf. And yet, I agree with you, Shiny Suicune. It is true that the forum is made up mainly of 15+ members, I myself am 14 going on 15. I read that thread and tried to read the other NC-17. They are the ONLY ones that I know of that are NC-17. So, it's not a problem yet. But, if 10 out of 20 of shipping fics are like that, then it will become a problem. I know that there are warnings. A high school kid drank a powerful base, the opposite of acid, and severely burned his esophogus. There wre warning signs all over the place, but he was still foolish enough to do it. His parents are suing the school, but will most likely lose as it was the kids fault. The reason I agree with RaZoR LeAf is because there are warnings in threads like that. But I agree with Shiny Suicune also because people usually are foolish and ignore them. Therefore, the NC-17 rating should be limited severely for this exact reason.

Here we go again. People trying overprotect everyone. :O

Look around. We have a TON of perverted, underage kids here. They ain't as innocent as you're making 'em out to be. Cut the complaining and learn we're not here to babysit. If there's a warning, then it's fairgame. They gave a warning.

This is the same BS that goes on with TV. Someone sees something they don't like when a kid is watching. Instead of turning off the TV, what do they do? Complain to the network and creators.

We make sure to have warnings given if such is the case. And to be fair, this is the internet. Obviously porn is the #1 thing you'll find just about anywhere, even if it isn't visual. e_e

And as mentioned, a large number of us aren't kids. So we shouldn't have to lower ourselves to lower levels just to be kid friendly. Especially when a huge chunk of the kids here are horny little wankers, with foul mouths. o_O;

Amen to the internet comment. And some people are just plain ignorant when it comes to this rating thing, there are some people who do not actually know these ratings because of where they live in... (where I live, we don't use ratings such as "NC-17" or "PG-13"). But then again, the temptation of curiosity, is it really THAT hard to resist something even when a warning's been shoved in your face? And then again, there are some people which just, don't get freaked out by this kind of stuff (I'm 13... and I don't get freaked out easily) but then they just don't bother.

Bottom Line: It's the person viewing the rated fic's fault, because they failed to consider the ratings and just went along with it. Why should anyone else take the blame? Especially when they didn't do anything... -__-

Yes, I am aware that some of this stuff is reitteration, but I want to say something about this, especially to get in the point that there are some pretty plain ignorant people here... that really just like clicking random links despite warnings such as this.

Hmmm. Agreeing with Ed here. Hell! I'm 11, and I'm waaaaaaay perverted. NC-17? Aaaand? Your reasong bieng? Its a warning, not a bloody law that you can't read it. I don't read fanfictions here, but hey, it sounds like fun.

Pornographic? rrriiiggghhhhtttt. I don't look at porn but thats not the point. A friend at school, Dan, and my best friend, James, have done it before. SO?

NC-bloody-17 is a warning. Either you say "ooooh noooo. I'm toooo young!" or "Hey. I'll read it." Your sister can look/read porno stuff if she wants. Concerned? Leave. Simple as that. The Porno is a way here in my opinion. Don't like it. Leave.

Wow, that went waaaay off topic.

I'm 11... o_O...

And most members think that I'm 13/14/15/16 Years old... Yes... My friends also have mistaken me as a 13+ Year Old...

Actually, it cannot be prevented. And like Josh said, there is a warning there for them, and it therby gives the forum owners and writers no liability if someone younger reads it.

Don't whine about it... It can never be helped.

In Singapore, we have NC-16, M18 & R21 ratings instead of the NC-17 & R Rating.

We still keep PG-13, PG and G Ratings though...

And you should know that about more than 75% of the Fics here have the 'PG' or 'PG-13' or 'PG' or 'PG-14' Rating...

In regards to some of the posts I see on these forums, I have to conclude that either that statement is false, or the general intelligence of the users here is far below average (or a least in the debate forum - and I don't mean everyone here). I'm sure it's the former though as I see no reason for pokemon fans to be any less intelligent than the next guy.

I agree with the majority here though. As long as it's clearly marked, the site holds no responsibility for the actions of your younger sister.

Age is not an indication of intelligence or maturity.

Ok. Like xxsapphirexx and broken wings. I'm eleven too. And also, if there's a warning up there, there's a warning up there, simple as that. Then if an arrogant moron ignores it and continues to view it. What do you expect the writer or webmaster to do? Treat it like ciggarettes and put BIG warnings up there? Well, are you trying to warn us not to do this? You can post this in fan-fiction, with warnings, so why not here?
If some moron decides to ignore a warning, then tough luck, tell 'em never to do it again. We can't do anything about it.
