Nationals

Strike!

Well-Known Member
After alot of research this is my new 2 vs. 2 team for the Nationals Qualifier. Rules.

Groudon @ Salac Berry
Evs: 6 HP, 252 SA, 252 SD
Adament nature for extra attack or Jollly nature to outrun Kyogre?
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Overheat or Flamethrower? What's best?

Exeggutor @ Cheri Berry
EV's: 38 HP / 252 SA / 220 spd
Modest Nature
- Solar Beam
- Protect
- Sleep Powder
- Explosion
Groudon for the sunny weather. Exeggutor is the sunnybeamer.

Rayquaza @ Shell Bell
Trait: Air Lock
EVs: 252 Atk / 6 SAtk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Extremespeed
- Rock Slide
- Ice Beam (I know it's out of place on a physical sweeper but, I figure it could be useful against a double Intimidate.)
- Earthquake

Aerodactyl @ Choice Band
Trait: Rock Head
EV's: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Double-Edge
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Aerial Ace
Aerodactyl & Rayquaza are my speedy openers

Gengar @ Lum Berry
EVs: 6 HP, 252 SA, 252 spd
Timid Nature
- Skill Swap
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Punch
- Destiny Bond

Slaking @ Leftovers
EV's: 252 ATTK / 252 SPD / 6 HP
Jolly Nature
- Rock Slide
- Bulk Up
- Protect
- Earthquake
Gangar uses Skill Swap on slaking to give it Levitate while slaking uses Bulk Up then I sweep. Or I could replace Slaking & Gangar with this.......

Gengar @ Lum Berry
EVs: 6 HP, 252 SA, 252 spd
Timid Nature
- Swagger
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Punch
- Destiny Bond

Metagross @; Persim Berry (heals confusion)
EVs: 6 hp / 252 Atk / 252 spd
Adamant Nature
- Agility
- Meteor Mash or Shadowball?
- Earthquake
- Explosion
For this alternative strategy I use Swagger on Metagross. Then Metagross heals itself with the Persim Berry and uses Agility. Do I need to say more?

Here is my strategy if I'm competing against some noob with Mewtwo and a bunch of other Legendaries. I'll start with Aerodactyl and Rayquaza. If I'm against a Kyogre weather team I'll start with the same. If I'm against another Groudon weather team I'll start with Groudon & Exeggutor and hope for the best. I know I have four Pokemon weak to Ice that's why I like the Metagross combo so atleast I have resistence to Ice

Groudon @ Shellbell
Evs: 252 HP/ 252 Att/ 6 SpAtt
Brave nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide/HPRock
- Flamethrower/Protect

Very foolish to try and outrun the mighty Kyogre here, the way you set your weather is affected by who is faster, if Kyogre is faster good! The rain will come out first and then your Drought will cover it up and you'll force them a switch go for the Absolute Minimum speed(like groudon outspeeds anything else anyways) and pack up on defence so you can really take your partner's explosion. Groudon is a tough beast who will last a few rounds so pack Flamethrower to not miss and not lose power or Protect to cover up..

Exeggutor @ Cheri Berry
EV's: 38 HP / 252 SA / 220 spd
Modest Nature
- Solar Beam
- Protect
- Sleep Powder/Explosion
- Psychic/HPFire
Groudon for the sunny weather. Exeggutor is the sunnybeamer.
Your Eggy is Modest explosion is going to be terrible especially when
Groudon can't even protect from it, and it doesn't even OHKO Latios!
what do you expect from this replace it with Psychic to hurt Heracross since Groudon's lousy fire moves will fail to kill it too..

The Sunnybeaming strategy of these two should stop raindance and perhaps fight other Chrollorophyllers..

Rayquaza @ Leichi/Salac/Petaya Berry
Trait: Air Lock
EVs: 252 Atk / 6 SAtk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Extremespeed
- Rock Slide
- Protect
- Earthquake
Rayquaza, I don't see its obsession Extremespeed doens't KO the Latis and Jolly Icebeam won't hurt much either.. your weakness is everywhere in ubers and you don't have the STAB attacks to cover it up..who will try to bring out Intimidate on ubers, only Tauros can come in but you got gengar..
Aerodactyl @ Choice Band
Trait: Rock Head
EV's: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Double-Edge
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Aerial Ace
Aerodactyl & Rayquaza are my speedy openers
Not enough damage to ubers imo, the only thing it will hurt is Ho-oh and Lugia but otherwise this strategy here is terrible..

Gengar @ Lum Berry
EVs: 6 HP, 252 SA, 252 spd
Hasty Nature
- Skill Swap
- Shadowball
- Ice Punch
- Explosion

Slaking @ Leftovers
EV's: 252 ATTK / 252 SPD / 6 HP
Jolly Nature
- Return
- Bulk Up
- Protect
- Earthquake
Gangar uses Skill Swap on slaking to give it Levitate while slaking uses Bulk Up then I sweep. Or I could replace Slaking & Gangar with this.......
How will you sweep Slaking's will die to special hits so easily which he will also be outspeeded by most ubers..Give this some HP and Return is necessary if you even want to Kill ubers since you wont have the time to setup and rockslide will literally do **** damage..

Gengar @ Lum Berry
EVs: 6 HP, 252 SA, 252 spd
Hasty Nature
- Swagger
- Shadowball
- Ice Punch
- Swillswap

Metagross @; Persim Berry (heals confusion)
EVs: 6 hp / 252 Atk / 252 spd
Adamant Nature
- Agility
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Explosion

Skillswap Levitate onto metagross and he will be very hard to kill here..
Some HP for special attacks wouldn't hurt..
Your strategies are build based on the fact that you know what the opponent will do. So rather a team very distinct and unknown like mine you have no idea what to do so really you should focus on making everyone of your 4 pokemon cover for the other's weaknesses and have back ups to it..

I'm sorry I think you misunderstood what I ment to say was that this was a team for the Pokemon Video Game National Chamionships Qualifier. Btw thanks for the weather tip.

Anyway is this any better?

Groudon @ Shell Bell
Evs: 252 HP, 6 SA, 252 SD
Brave Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Flamethrower

Exeggutor @ Cheri Berry
EV's: 38 HP / 252 SA / 220 spd
Modest Nature
- Solar Beam
- Protect
- Sleep Powder
- Psychic

Gengar @ Lum Berry
EVs: 6 HP, 252 SA, 252 spd
Hasty Nature
- Skill Swap
- Shadow Ball
- Ice Punch
- Swagger

Metagross @; Persim Berry
EVs: 252 hp / 6 Atk / 252 spd
Adamant Nature
- Agility
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Explosion

Suicune @ Chesto Berry
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 SDef
Bold Nature
- Mirror Coat
- Ice Beam
- Calm Mind
- Rest

Blissey @; Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 6 spd
Bold Nature
- Light Screen
- Toxic
- Softboiled
- Protect

The idea for Suicune & Blissy is to be a special wall team.

Drought will murder suicune especially when its your water counter so take that out, and bliss is good to cover your Mewtwo weakness. I would suggest a fire pokemon if you want to resist fire and ice. Houdoom is great for having Dark STAB or you could try Moltres who has earthquake resistance and amazing Special attack..

I can't get a good Moltres but, what about this...

Blaziken @ Salac Berry
EV's: 252 Atk / 6 Satk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature (To outrun Mewtwo after Salac Berry)
- Rock Slide/Earthquake IMO
- Endure
- Reversal
- Overheat (with Sunny Day, Blaze, and STAB this will have a base power of 380)

Overheat hurts alot

Blissey isn't really good in Doubles. It's probably around BL. With a couple of suberb special attackers out there and weather boosts you can expect times when you receive over 50% damage in one turn just from special attacks. Any wise battler will pack a couple decent physical sweepers too (namely fast CBers). Walling doesn't really work in Double Battle. Even if Blaziken does outrun Mewtwo it still won't kill it in one hit. If you want an Endure/Reving pokémon Heracross does it so much better. Megahorn with Swarm is a OHKO for Mewtwo. Heracross in my opinion is a must have when you are facing Ubers, since it can OHKO many of them.

Is the Heracross moveset any different in 2 vs. 2? I'm not sure what to do now since to my knowledge Aerodactyl is the only pokemon that can outrun the fastest legendaries (except for Deoxys which doesn't apply here) and is a decent CBer. Is Aero really any good because in this threed I've been told it's "terrible".

no actually Bliss works rather well set that Lightscreen up and with Softboiled
it outstalls Raindancers especially with them having to miss quite alot, but the term walling only works when both of the pokemon can take hits like I form a Regice + Snorlax to wall Raindancers they can't get past my defences since Regice paralyzes them and Snorlax self-destructs right incase its going to die. But yeah Bliss here is only covering and helping the rest take hits and it should probably have T-wave over Toxic to help your partner take hits and get a greater chance at a free hit..
Blaziken @ Salac Berry
EV's: 252 Atk / 6 Satk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature (To outrun Mewtwo after Salac Berry)

With many Psychics running around and Rayquaza's extremespeed all that Spattack(and no evs) won't mean much to their uber defences so I'm not sure if this will OHKO anything at all but use Rockslide to cause maybe a flinch among Lugia and Ho-oh but yeah not really the best and the same can be said for the risky reversal cross..

Since I can't think of anything else to go with Bliss how about this....

Mewtwo @ Salac Berry
EV's 6 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt / Thunder
- Ice Beam
- Calm Mind / Recover / Reflect
I know this makes half my team weak to Shadow Ball.

DemonScythe why did you recommend Shadow Ball on Gengar? I've checked its stats and even with STAB how much could it do to an Uber?

Gengar @ Lum Berry
EVs: 6 HP, 252 SA, 252 spd
Timid Nature
- Skill Swap
- Destiny Bond
- Ice Punch
- Swagger
If I can breed a Gengar with good IV's I should be able to outrun a Mewtwo without speed EV's and use Destiny Bond. One question does Destiny Bond make you move last?
