-- NATIVE FAITH --
a sylphid dream, the god sent a rain of blessing
a sylphid dream, the god sent a rain of blessing
In ages past, in the dark recesses of ancient feudal Japan, there was a haunted region that was known as "Gensokyo." It was home to many evil apparitions and ghosts and the like; they were known as "youkai" in the native tongue of those who lived in Japan, and what they are known as now to this very day. These youkai, in the past, began to start terrorizing the areas of civilization that were settled in Japan, which led to the sending of heroic, powerful humans to exorcise and eradicate them. Remember, now, that this region of Gensokyo existed for as long as Japan did, and shared whatever creation story was fabricated with regards to this. This constantly quelled and sparked battle began to rage on until the year of 1884 CE, when this Gensokyo was sealed off from the rest of Japan, which began to advance technologically and scientifically, thus, increasing their skepticism about the occult that Gensokyo was practically the haven of. How was this seal created? A massive boundary that the humans created in the year 1884, known by many names, the "Hakurei Barrier," the "Border," and even the "Great Boundary," was the solution. A rather large Shinto shrine, the Hakurei Shrine, exists on the border on both sides, the so-called civilized Japan and the side of Gensokyo. Eventually, the youkai began to reinforce this barrier, eventually making it the strongest of every boundary created in Gensokyo. Now, what about the people who live in Gensokyo? Not only youkai, but also humans live there. There are people who are in hiding from the real world, those who want to escape from the harshness of reality, and those who wanted shelter from those who did not accept or provide for them.
Now, this barrier that separated Gensokyo from the rest of the world around it, was not the all-cure. It did not solve everything, for not only people from the outside were sent through it, but even entire places! Such a phenomenon was not explained, and probably could not be explained, apart from delinquents who weakened the barrier by making holes in them. Mansions, other shrines and the like were somehow brought into Gensokyo, which led to many problems that the residents of Gensokyo eventually took up arms to solve... Who were these people? In actuality, only one person, the present guardian of the Hakurei Shrine, Reimu Hakurei, is the one who possessed the power to defy gravity, and used this to solve these problems that threatened the safety of Gensokyo and possibly the Hakurei Barrier itself, which Reimu's Shrine was the gateway within. Most recently, during one lonely Autumn of Gensokyo, the faith in the Hakurei Shrine's deity began to... plummet, much like how the leaves fall from the trees during this season. Eventually, a mysterious person arrives to visit Reimu, claiming that she is a deity of the mountains, and demands that Reimu close down the doors of the Hakurei Shrine. Evidently, this is troubling news, because of the Shrine's role with regards to the Hakurei Barrier. After some time, Reimu decides to investigate this matter with the Mountain goddess, along with one ordinary magician friend of hers, Marisa Kirisame, who only visited because she was bored, and also senses some suspicion. Together, they encounter many faces of Gensokyo's deities, as well as some youkai like one valley kappa, an amphibious being, called Nitori, and a crow tengu, a crow spirit, called Aya. Reimu and Marisa's final square-off with the Mountain goddess, Kanako Yasaka, is only obstructed by one single person, a shrine maiden like Reimu herself, called Sanae Kotiya, who maintains the Moriya Shrine. Reimu and Marisa encounter Kanako Yasaka and then defeat her in an engrossing battle.
After this, Kanako then decides to make peace with the kappa and the tengu spirits that live on the mountain that she resides in alongside the Moriya Shrine. This leads to Reimu living her normal life again, but Marisa decides to sneak into the mountain they went to before for chestnuts. While doing this, Marisa heard of a rumor that there was... another God at the Moriya Shrine. She also found out that Kanako lived at the lake nearby, and not at the shrine. Armed with this knowledge, Marisa informs Reimu and they both return to the Moriya Shrine, fending off Kanako who wants to chase them away. Eventually, the duo encounter the true deity of the shrine, a little Suwako Moriya. Suwako tells them that Kanako defeated Suwako in battle a long time ago, thus winning her the right to use the shrine in public. However, it was mostly left alone to Suwako's own designs, but Kanako transferred the shrine herself, possibly through a defect in the Hakurei Barrier. Reimu and Marisa decide to leave, but Suwako demands to "play with them," which happened to be a euphemism for "have a battle with magical bullets." After a gruelling battle, Suwako was defeated, and they all dispersed to live their own lives.
Nowadays, life is fairly boring... Reimu is hanging out with youkai she is friends with, Marisa is busy pilfering books from the library of a certain mansion that materialized from the border. There happens to be one village where humans live, as well, where it is protected and safe from rogue youkai. You are one of the people living in the Human Village, living a rather peaceful life, praying to a certain deity, doing your business in the village, and also interacting with others. However, there is a someone who goes around deep in the night time, and wakes up people to talk to them about something. You are one of the people that this someone woke up and decided to talk to, for some god-forsaken reason. You were still quite groggy being woken up at the dead of the night, so you could barely make out what this stranger was saying. All you could gather was the gist of the message. Something about "a stranger coming from the outside," and "gods starting to lose their strength again." You nod weakly and head back to sleep.
The next day, when you wake up, you find you are the only person awake... Apart from a couple of others. You think the rest of the villagers are asleep, but they are actually at a place in the center of the village, where you see a person in priestly garb, preaching some crazy business about a benevolent God who wants nothing but peace and love for His people. Personally, you don't buy into that philosophical nonsense, along with some others who you ended up asking. You figure this must be the thing that the stranger last night was referring to. These... strangers from another land coming into your village, brainwashing everyone you know! You hurriedly go back to your house and pray profusely to your deity, and, suddenly, by some pure enlightenment, you come to a realization that the only way to stop this rampant perversion of religion is to drive away this cult. You suddenly go outside and find that the others who weren't persuaded are doing the same thing. You all huddle together and suddenly feel stronger, like you are ready to take on the world.
The NATIVE FAITH lies in you... Will you remain strong? Or will you succumb to these falsehoods? Only time will tell...
---
You are one of the humans who feel a surge of power from praying to your deity. You want to drive away the strangers who came to brainwash your loved ones, your friends, your teachers. Of course, your power alone won't help you. You must possess the will to resist these bogus teachings. In a rather ancient land, full of mythic beings, danger and great wonders lurk. Are you ready?

NAME: (who are you called? Preferably go wapanese with this one)
GENDER: (male or female? given the setting, it's safer to go with both gender rather than outright female...)
AGE:
DEITY: The Deity you prayed to. This Deity granted you a power they thought would help you drive off these knaves. Please select one from the following:
--> MINORIKO AKI, Goddess of the Harvest
Minoriko Aki is an Autumn goddess who has power over the harvests of the plants and fruits that you have spent so much time tending to and caring for. If you prayed to Minoriko Aki, she would have granted you a small power... A small power that might seem negligible, but is actually quite useful in certain situations. You can cause food to materialize from fertile soil, or make dying crops immediately spring to life again.
--> SHIZUHA AKI, Goddess of the Leaves
Shizuha Aki is Minoriko Aki's older sister. She has the power over the turning of the leaves, which might seem trivial, but in some senses, really isn't all that small. If you prayed to Shizuha Aki, she would have granted you the power to use leaves as a deadly weapon, by allowing you control over their movement, and any leaves you use immediately become sharp as opposed to their normal, harmless selves. Truly a frightening thought, to be struck down by a plethora of beautiful leaves.
--> HINA KAGIYAMA, Goddess of all Curses
Hina Kagiyama likes to spin. She's also the goddess of curses. Bad luck befalls those who go near her, and Hina wants to try her best to make sure bad luck doesn't befall anyone, so she gathers up curses. If you prayed to Hina Kagiyama, she gives you the ability to store bad luck or curses yourself and use it against your enemies, and also become a good luck charm by warding away bad luck to the entourage. Quite unique, if anyone can say.
--> SUWAKO MORIYA, Goddess of a Mountain
Suwako is the true goddess of the Moriya shrine, after being usurped by Kanako. She has the ability to create the earth we all live on. In actuality, she occasionally takes the form of a frog. She tamed the mighty curse god Mishaguji for her own designs. If you prayed to Suwako Moriya, you too, will be granted the power to manipulate the earth... However, not to such an extent that Moriya can. You cannot make landslides or giant walls, however, you can form sharp amalgamations of earth to attack your opponents.
--> KANAKO YASAKA, Goddess of Wind and Rain, fake goddess of a Mountain
Kanako Yasaka claimed she is a mountain goddess, but only did so because she defeated Suwako, the true deity. She is infact a deity of the wind and the rain and takes the form of a snake. She said, with regards to defeating Suwako, that "Suwako takes the form of a frog, and snakes eat frogs." She has the ability to create sky, and if you prayed to her, you gain possession of one of her Pillars of Faith. A fragment of Kanako's power dwells within it, and only the one who prayed to Kanako can hold it. If you possess it, you are given the power to change the form of the sky. You can also use the pillar as a weapon!
--> SHINKI, Goddess and Creator of the Demon World
Sometimes compared to the Devil himself, Shinki is a mighty goddess who created her own world of demons. Her power is unknown, and not many people see it fit to choose her as a deity. If you were the brave soul who decided to try praying to her for your own reasons, Shinki will give you a fraction of her strength, granting you increased human ability, and the ability to use certain magic, which, for now, is limited to throwing fireballs at your opponents or lobbing a long, hard icicle (hee).

Name: Fujisaki Tamao (last name, first name format, real name: Fujisaki Tatsuya, will be referred to as Tamao for this portion)
Gender: Female? (referred to as "she" for this portion, but "he" in the main RP)
Age: 20
Deity: Hina Kagiyama
Description: Tamao possesses quite a befuddling body, and that of quite desirable "quality," of sorts. Tamao appears to be also quite frail, to a degree where others could probably think they could wrestle Tamao down quickly and have their way with her. Tamao overall is also unusually short for her age, but still has quite a lithe figure. This adds even more to her frailty, something that annoys her to some extent. Nevertheless, she is turned off by excessively toned and musclebound bodies, so as it stands, she's definitely not complaining about her current state. Tamao's skin's also fair. It isn't that tanned, but it's far from white as it is right now. However, what offsets it from being ordinary is that it's also unusually smooth. Tamao's eyes are also unusually feline, and are an odd shade of grey, which makes Tamao have a blank look in her eyes. Tamao's hair is also quite long, reaching just below her shoulder. She has decided against tying it into a ponytail. Her hair is platinum blonde in colour, and Tamao often keeps it very sraight and neat, not affording to leave it in a messy heap. Tamao isn't vain, she's just a neat freak who loves presentation. Also, making herself look presentable.
Tamao herself appears to be decked out in what some modern people would call "a smokin' lady." While in actuality, what Tamao is wearing isn't all that revealing or scandalous at all, it still exudes some weird aura that attracts people. Tamao wears a red robe where the hem only cuts to just above her knees. The robe is quite nondescript and plain. The inner lining of said robe happens to be black. Beneath the robe Tamao wears a sarashi. The sarashi actually doesn't do anything given Tamao's dark secret, but it's just there to make her fit in better. For her arms, she wears a pair of arm gloves that reach her elbows, and for her legs, Tamao wears a pair of black knee-high socks and thigh-high "tights" of sorts. Sort of like what a ninja would wear, you know? Her footwear are a pair of simple two-teeth geta sandals, and she wears no tabi socks. From what Tamao is wearing, she doesn't look particularly rich, nor particularly poor, but well-off. That is odd, considering Tamao lives on her own substantiating on a simple job.
Personality: Tamao is quite timid and shy, but only when she is in a large crowd. She works much better off in a small group or on her own, giving her a sort of reclusive image where she holes herself up with an exclusive circle of people. This could almost be interpreted to mean "clique," but Tamao isn't that kind of person who chooses all that much, Tamao is quite open-minded and quite flexible about her choices and her plans, also what she does. She treats her superiors with much respect, much like how she literally worships her deity. She is not necessarily chivalrous, but she is willing to listen to other people's problems and will not hesitate to help someone out given the current situation. However, when she's on her own, she is a totally different person. Tamao tends to be quite more active when no one's looking at her, and she takes the initiative far more often, and turns out to be quite more aggressive. This stems partly from the abuse she's received from various people at various instances, but that is something that will be covered for later. As such, Tamao is desperate for someone who understands her and loves her for who she is, and not for someone to abuse and hit on for absolutely no reason. Tamao is someone who has been plagued by much bad luck, and for this she tries so hard to pray and give tributes to her deity. Tamao is also fearful of those who are bigger than she is (read: nearly everyone), for the fear that they might do something unspeakably despicable to her. Tamao has the reason for this, and that will be explained quite soon. It's safe to say that Tamao is a mixed bag of emotions, a hodge-podge of traits that could either make or break a person.
Reason: Tamao has been plagued by bad luck as has been mentioned earlier. Tamao's looks mean that she has a history of being hit on by philanderers, as well as the occasional pedophile. Instance after instance has Tamao been physically abused, and also has hit many times where she is nearly violated so bad that she might as well be left to die. Tamao clings to Hina hoping that she can absorb the bad luck that Tamao has somehow been harvesting, and becoming the harbinger of. Tamao has known the nature of Hina Kagiyama to want to help those who are lost, and collects curses for the purpose of aiding those who are weary. Tamao believes that her belief in Hina Kagiyama will be the one that saves her from those who try to abuse her and violate her.
Other: Tamao is actually a guy! Real name Fujisaki Tatsuya, last name first name format.
