Need Help with Grass Types

Gumbyx84

Safari Gym Leader
I am having problems finding a grass type for my BF team. As some of you may know, I got my butt Kicked at PRA this year when someone (who may have changed his team seeing my weakness) swept my team with a Swamperet. I have come to the decision that I need to find my team a decent Grass type. I would rather find a Pokemon that can use some Grass Type attacks, but I will use a grass type if I have too. I have never found a good grass type to use all the time during my years playing the game, so I need help from you guys. I was thinking of using the Nuzleaf line, but I am not to sure on that. If anyone has any ideas for me, I would greatly apprecitate it. Thanks :)

If you want to 0wn Swampy, Sceptile is probably your best bet. He's the fastest Grass Pokémon with any offense whatsoever, and also gets Leaf Blade, the best and most balanced Grass attack. A Modest, or even a timid Sceppy will own Swampert easily.

The Moveset? I'll let someone like LG386 to help you in that regard. :)

Can you say...ouch? Why are you making him primarily a physical sweeper? Anyways, thread starter, try this set on for size:

Sceptile@Leftovers
Timid, 162 HP, 252 SpA, 96 Spd (this assumes perfect stats, if your Sceptile's speed is not perfect take away enough EPs from HP to bring its speed to 363)
-Leaf Blade
-Substitute
-Leech Seed
-HP Ice/Thunderpunch (or Dragon Claw if you are feeling daring/stupid)

Personally, I like Ludicolo and Cradily more than Sceptile, but choose what you wish. If only Sceppy could get both Crunch and Leech Seed on the same moveset.

Lugia26: Your post has nothing to do with the threat I started, so it is SPAM. Do not do it or people will report you.

Anyway: I know Sceptile would be a good choice, but I do not like the idea of using starters in real teams. As you can see from my BF card, I like to use Pokemon no one usually thinks to use. It makes for originality and can really throw off your opponent. (Anyone who was at the Boston PRA this year and saw me battle knows that :-D). Thanks for the movesets and the input though.

To others: Do you know of any non-starter Pokemon that might work?

Personally (and yes, I reiterate my earlier sentiments), I love Ludicolo. While he only gets Giga Drain in terms of Grass moves, he has access to Leech Seed, Surf and all of the elemental punches (though Ice Beam will satisfy your needs for an Ice-type move). Not only that, but he can be employed effectively with either Rain Dance or Sunny Day in effect.

Swift Swim, Rain Dance, and Surf allow him to become a speedy special sweeper with plenty of options for the last two slots (you can run a pseudo-Boltbeam combo with Ice Beam and Thunderpunch, or try out a more 'natural' moveset with Giga Drain and Leech Seed). On the other hand, you can try out a Sunny Day/Solarbeam/Fire Punch/Leech Seed moveset (he would be awesome employing this moveset if only he got Sleep Powder and Chlorophyll).

Alternatively, if messing with weather makes you wary of Blissey and her ilk, you can simply try a moveset like Surf/Leech Seed/Ice Beam/(Giga Drain/HP Grass) and switch out when needed. However, you can take Ludicolo in practically any direction, which is why it stands as one of my favorite Grass types.

Ah yes, that seedot is very powerful. I made the Shiftry learn extrasensory and whammo, it look down 4 of glacia's pokemon until a glalie ice beamed it. (I forgot its Ice weakness)
Breloom is also a good choice, considering it can learn Mach Punch and a bunch of other Grass moves. It's Efefct Spore ability can come in handy, so you can replace its powder moves.
Otherwise, I would pick Bellossom. Though it's stats are rather average, it can learn the drains. Doesn't need to recover using items.

My favourite grass type is shiftry. I used it on the frontier with outstanding results. It turned out to be the pokemon I used most. Well, here it is:

2.solarbeam
3.giga drain
4.extrasensory

Well, there are quite a few grass pokemon worthy of your team.

Cradily
Cacturne
Ludicolo
Shiftry

That's all I can think of at the moment...

I wanted to say thanks to Eszett and undisputed_seraphim for the info. To the others: PLEASE READ WHAT I SAID. I am trying to find a good grass type, that uses grass type moves, for my BF team. My team got its butt kicked by a Swamperet and I need a way to stop it.

Thanks agian to those who gave me heads up, and hoping to get more from the rest.

Well, like suggested above, I personally think you should use Cacturne because it has access to Needle Punch, which is a pretty decent Grass move, and it can also make your opponent flinch, and I think everyone knows how annoying that is. You could probably use a Sub-Punching set, or just a Sweeping set.

Cacturne @ Leftovers/Brightpowder
Naughty
-Substitute/Sandstorm
-Focus Punch
-Needle Arm
-Faint Attack
If you want to be different with your Focus Punches, then you can use a hax-based set with Brightpowder and Sandstorm. Otherwise just use Sub-Punching.

Cacturne @ Petaya Berry
Modest
-Thunderpunch
-Faint Attack
-Needle Arm
-Leech Seed

I don't know whether you want to use one of these sets, otherwise just have a look at www.smogon.com.

After some research, I have (partially) decided to to get a Exeggutor. I need to work on a move set. As a last quick question to ask, anyone got any more ideas for a few moves? I was thinking of using Sunny Day/Solarbeam, but I was thinking of using Egg Bomb also. If anyone has any other ideas, please post me here.

I use bellossom and have good luck with it, but its stats are kind of bad so I guess if you want someone good you should use ludicolo instead with the moveset eszett suggested
