New 11 episode series, "Pocket Monsters: Mezase Pokemon Master", starts January 13th 2023

It wasn’t meant as a gotcha. Cherry picking that specific sentence out of my original post misses the context of what I was really asking, which is:
I'm not really cherrypicking, you're just misunderstanding why I mentioned it specifically. Obviously, the involvement in creating a series is a team effort, no doubt about that. But the relevance here is the contrasting visions between the series. It's in that context Tomiyasu took the reins of the series in his influence over SM/JN

Good, because it is then Ash finally started to have some Major wins after his last one in Battle Frontier, more than 10 years prior.

The execution could be better for both SM/JN? Sure, but I take it over a situation were the writers were obligated to let Ash to lose like in DP, BW or XY.

There's a difference between a series having a somewhat different tone, which they all had anyway, and Satoshi going from qualifying for but not winning regional leagues while clearly being massively below the Elite Fours and Champions, to him suddenly just steamrolling everyone else in the entire world with a fresh team for no adequately explained reason.
All it needed was a timeskip training montage atop Mt. Silver...

I don’t think anyone was expecting Shakespearean writing. Obviously this show has always been glorified marketing and full of surface-level writing, poor pacing, missed opportunities, repetitive formulaic episodes, Team Rocket ad nauseum, and one of the slowest developments of a character ever (while still refusing to age him).

However, was is really hard to ask for more episodes in Journeys with old companions returning and getting updates for their ‘future’ ahead? Or even more obvious: having Ash’s old Pokémon come back and battle in the PWC seemed like a no-brainer decision. C’mon, it’s been so many years since Charizard got a proper battle.

I mean, whatever, at least a lot of old companions got post-series episodes in earlier series and we generally know where they’re at and what they’re doing. As for the reserves, at least they helped train the JN team to reach ultimate glory. It is what it is.

However, for the last 11 episodes, did we really need a quieter conclusion of random fillers?

It could have been 1 episode devoted to each series. As in Ash spends an episode with each of his regional teams and there could have been a montage of him remembering that respective series and companions. That’s half the episode. There still would have been room for a random POTD/COTD or TR plot, and/or Latias can still follow Ash.

Just something that would have signified tribute and a proper bookend to a 26-year-running show. That’s all.

The fact that somebody could watch these episodes and not realize that Ash’s story is ending says something.

Yeah, we probably shouldn’t have been this invested in the show. But I thought the staff would try a little harder.

Great way to sum up the big issue with MPM. The way this series has been written almost comes across as a deliberate middle finger to anyone who felt invested in Ash's journey. What's worse is that the more you were invested in this series, the harder MPM tells you to screw off.

I know they'll probably never release this information since the series ie ending but I want to know:

  • Why was Lance reduced from a Champion to an E4?
  • If Project Mew wasn't planned what was Gary's voice actor originally called for?
  • Giving that they decided this was going to be Ash's last series was Chloe and Goh suppose to be Liko and Roy?
  • Where the idea of giving Chloe an Eevee even come from?
  • How early in advanced did they know who would be apart of the Masters Eight?
And that's just a few. So many background and story questions lore around this series decisions tbh

1. Kanto nostalgia probably
2. He's a good return candidate
3. Eh probably not
4. She doesn't know what she wants in life, Eevee doesn't know what it wants to evolve into (Espeon's the best one btw)
5. idk

so basically we are not seeing a true ending because Mr. Yuyama is acting in a somewhat selfish way.

I don't get the fascination with Mt. Silver of all things, for me that's the most edgy part of the 'Redification' of Ash if you will. Vanishing from the region and going alone to a snowy mountainous place....it worked well for the games as a coolness factor but just doesn't for Ash's character in the anime. Especially when it's been established Mt. Silver isn't really a training hub either in the anime
When the matketing team puts more love, effort, and appreciation for the show’s history than the actual show runners.

Like damn this actually made me feel more melancholic and sad in 90 secs than the entirety of MPM and JN.

The sheer amount of thought went into this is honestly touching.
Minor thing but the ending where Misty Brock Gary Oak and Delia all say Satoshi and Pikachu says Pikapi (Satoshi in Pika speak) really got to me
It's been fun watching all the various videos of this on Twitter, really wish could've seen this in person it's really really good
