• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

Not only is this the first main game in the series to arrive on the 3DS, but it also comes with battles in 3D. Goodbye sprites, hello models!

Discuss your thoughts on the new layout in regards to the overworld and battles.

All posts, speculation or not, should be constructive and contain ideas, support/elaborate their ideas, and must contribute to the discussions and/or on-going arguments. Also, one-liner posts such as "I agree.", "I want [this] to be in the game!", "This sucks!" will all be considered SPAM, deleted and you will be possibly infracted.

Let's promote a worthwhile discussion!

I hope they get rid of the protagonist's shades, they look ridiculous. This aside, I absolutely cannot wait!

Can we please get the older, old forum back?
I'm hoping that the 3DS will be able to fluidly let us transition from one area to another. One of my irritations with BW was that when you walk from Nimbasa City, to the carnival, that you suddenly get a black screen, because of whatever the DS wasn't powerful enough to have those spaces as one area.. -.-

The 3D is obviously going to make stuff good, and stuff bad, but I'm hoping for fluid transitions here. That's just the overworld talk. The 3D battling looks amazing, and pokemon are actually doing the Fury Swipes/Close Combat hits themselves, based on Froakie's second move. That's impressive. Now I'm just left wondering about how Wailord will fit in.. :p

As for overworld, one more thing.. When we see the character walking on what is presumably Route 3. The landscape in the background looks bad. Like Skyward Sword background bad.. I know a lot of people were excited about Skyward Sword, but I honestly got headaches from the backgrounds being so blurry.

Pokédex Complete!
The graphics are one of the few things I'm slightly disappointed about, tbh. An eventual 3D leap was always inevitable, but I'm sad we never got a High-Res sprites phase in-between. I also feel the art style is too similar to BW, I never really liked it as much as HGSS or RSE's styles, and it's just not colourful enough in some places.

Hopefully they've either removed seasons or made winter and autumn look better though.

Edit: Also battles will take long as hell with all those fancy animations. It'll be cool for gym leaders and stuff but I might have to turn them off for grinding things.

What bugs me is by using 3D models instead of sprites, how will we get the images of the pokemon?

General Nonsense

Star Glider
Full 3D huh. I'm not sure how I feel about this honestly. I am a big fan of the overhead view of the world like it is in the other pokemon games and don't know if I'll easilly adjust to the new style. The battles look alright I guess, but I'll miss the sprites.

Thriller

Its almost time
The graphics will definitely take some time to grow on me. I'm too conservative/right-winged/traditional to instantly go "ZOMG! EPIC 3D GRAPHX! Ecks & Wy will b teh BEST!!"

Plus I still don't own a 3DS and I doubt it'll take Pokemon X & Y to get me to buy one.

I like the way the battles look now, can't wait to start battling. I'm not big on graphics and that, so long as it doesn't look like a mess(And I mean an actual mess where you can't even make anything out) I'm good, but this really looks pretty awesome to me.

I don't know if this was already discussed somewhere but will the games be available for the regular DS as well?

SO somebody noted that there's no HP-bar/Levels on the topscreen during the fights.

They're wrong it seems. When Froakie is sent out, you can see that the team used has four members. We only see attack shots, so I'd guess is that the HP-bar moves out of the way for the animation.

From what I can tell, the Pokemon aren't in exact proportion from one another which is probably due to the fact that this is the first time Pokemon is making 3d models for the 3DS. But if I'm wrong about that, I wonder how big Pokemon like Wailord would look like in this game. We only saw 1 on 1 battling, but I hope this game still keeps double and triple battles. I'd love to see a 3v3 wailord battle in full 3d!!

They won't.

I like the graphics but i think Magnagate's are better, those pixelated borders kind of annoy me.

It'll grow on me but I feel like the battle system is more like a spin-off than the main games. The sprites are part of Pokémon's charm and I really felt that Gen IV and V had finally found a style they were comfortable with keeping for the rest of the series. I love the overworld mind you and 3D is completely welcome here, I just wish the battles had stayed 2D.

Take into consideration that its just the Pokeballs and nothing else in the corner. Something tells me that's all its gonna be, with the HP bar on the bottom screen as someone said. And think about it, look how the battles are, can you really see an HP bar being squeezed in there? Anyway, games look amazing. Pixelly on the PC, but when I saw the trailer on the eShop.....hot damn is it godly. Such a good progression, can't wait to play it.
