I like the theories, but I'm having a hard time believing they'd bump up the number of trials that much. I'm still thinking Kahili is a Kahuna since I don't see why they'd have that huge golf course on the SM map without becoming accessible in USUM. Plus, Kahili has been shown to have a connection to the Grand Hano Resort (or whatever it's called) in Heahea, which is on Akala. As for the Ice and Psychic Z-crystals, I think they could be given out in different ways during the story other than trials. Lillie and Hau becoming last-minute trial captains just seems a little too fast and obscure to me.

I am still really interested in Hau being at Ten Carat Hill though...

I'm not convinced it's Ten Carat Hill. I'm more inclined to think it's the graveyard on Akala, don't remember what it's called right now though.

It's called Memorial Hill I think. Wasn't that the path that led to the Ruins of Life or is it just me? Because if it is, then that's where we fought Olivia, but that doesn't properly fit into the theory I've decided on. Idk.

To me it's a lot more Ten Carat Hill-ish because of the way the path in the background looks curved and has the grass in a certain area, which looks exactly like the far left corner of the Ten Carat Hill hollow area.

Speaking of Trial Captains and Kahunas, I believe that we will see many familiar faces.
This is how I see it.

Trial Captains

Ilima-Same place for the trial and minor tweaks for it.
Lana-Same place for the trial and minor tweaks for it.
Kiawe-Same place for the trial and some tweaks for it.
Mallow-Same place for the trial and some tweaks for it.
Sophocles-Same place for the trial and minor tweaks for it.
Acerola-Same place for the trial and minor tweaks for it.
Mina-Somewhere on Poni Island (Exeggutor Island perhaps?) with an obviously unknown objective.
Kahili-The golf course on Akala could serve as the perfect site for her trial.

Kahunas

Hala-He gives us the Z-power ring, meaning that he still has the authority of a Kahuna.
Olivia-I can't see her being subsistuted by another character, for the simple reason that in the anime she's a strong character and would be a pity to shove her off.
Nanu-He considers being a Kahuna a drag, but he has no intention of enraging Tapu Bulu any further, so I guess he will keep his position in USUM.
Hapu-Due to plot reasons, I think that she will be Kahuna again. However, maybe this time she could already be one by the time we reach Poni Island. Only time will tell...

Elite 4 and Champion

This part is a bit tricky...
We could have the same ones we had in SUMO, or we could assist to a complete renewal of them.
I'd prefer the latter honestly, with Ryuki being the Champion.
I say Champion, but I believe that we would have a situation similar to SUMO (Champion at the same time, but the first one who will win, shall become Alola's first-ever Champion).

That's my opinion at least. :D

We also don't have any Ice-type specialist. So that person could be a Trial Captain or an Elite Four. Or one of the new villains.

Wasn't Sina an Ice-Type specialist is SuMo? Well, I doubt that she would ever become a Captain or Kahuna...never mind.

Also you only ever fight her once, in Moon.
Kind of hope that we fight her more times, it aws weird how Dexio was the only one to get the post game fight. Could have given Sina mega glalie or abomasnow

When do you fight her in Moon? Also she and Dexio appeared in the Battle Tree, I believe.

Sina seems like a random choice for trial Captain, unless they made Dexio another captain. While Dexio does have a Psychic type as his current signature Pokemon (Alakazam) with both of those types being free as trial spots, you've gotta bear in mind that they're just on holiday in Alola, and have duties with Sycamore back in Kalos.

And doing that odd hero thing they did for... some reason.

The battle when you're at the hotel on akala island. In Sun you fight Dexio (Slowpoke & Epseon) and in moon you fight Sina (Glaceon & Delibird). Both versions you fight Dexio for the mega evolution upgrade.

I played through both, but I only ever remember battling Dexio.

I would be ok if we got a new elite four this time around, maybe some new faces or some development to some characters like Guzma and Molayne. As for the champion, the league seems to already be built according to the map so we may already have a champion. I think it would be cool though if instead of Kukui we get someone else when we for the title.

This is true, but you can also battle her (and Dexio) in the Battle Tree. She can have an Alolan Sandslash, an Abomasnow (one set is a Mega Abomasnow, the other is not), a Glaceon, and/or any of the following Moon Exclusive Mons: Mandibuzz, Lilligant, Oranguru, and Drampa.

I would say that doesn't make her an Ice-Type specialist, but Dexio, Mallow, Kiawe, Plumeria, and Guzma all have Pokemon that don't match their specialty Types when encountered at the Battle Tree, so yeah, who knows.

That being said, I still doubt that she'll be a Trial Captain (though, fun fact, Sina/Hina can actually be a Hawaiian name, derived from a Polynesian Goddess with a connection to the moon).

Backwards thinking?
With there being so many types, and each trial based on a specific type, there's one of two things I can see being done.

First is that Poni Island gets more than just a "Totem Kommo'o" before Hapu. Obviously Mina is confirmed, but there's plenty of room for a Dragon-type Trial, and maybe even another Trial in Poni Plains. It always struck me as odd that half the island was reserved for post-game content, when only one area (Battle Tree) was really needed to be. Since the Plains is such a vast, open area, it'd be the perfect spot for a Flying trial, since it has expansive areas for vast aerial battles. I would suggest that Vast Poni Canyon could be used for it, but we already have that area almost reserved for the Dragon Trial before the Altar. The same could also be said about the desert in Ula'Ula, where you get the Psychium Z.

The other is that trials become version exclusive. For instance, let's say that in Ultra Sun, we get Sophocles and his Electric Trial, while in Ultra Moon, we get Molayne and his Steel Trial. Both would be ultimately the same, but it just results in a different Totem Pokemon and we ultimately get both Z-Stones. This idea was used in the original Sun and Moon, with Gumshoos and Raticate. Another instance of this could be some sort of late-game (or hell, even post-game) trial involving either Guzma or Plumeria, although I think Guzma might be a bit too old for that. But it could work into his character. If you remember the post-game scene in Sun and Moon where he challenges you on Hau'oli Beachfront, only to be schooled again and have Hala explain his shortcomings, I could see Guzma taking up the title of Trial Captain even though he's too old. Their trial could involve finding the dregs of Team Skull, and slapping them around until they realize the "right thing to do".

Except we already know that the Flying Altar is at Ten Carat Hill on MeleMele Island.

Not necessarily. Remember, it's an Alternate Universe and we don't know what could change.

Everything else about trial locations we know so far has stayed the same. And we have already seen Kahili teaching us the Flying Z-move at a location that looks suspiciously like the cave above Ten Carat Hill where the Flying Altar is found. I really do believe she will be a Trial Captain this time around. Especially since he age was never explicitly stated in SM.

I just hope we have an Alolan native Ice specialist. Not a tourist, that you can only fight in one specific version.... maybe somebody whose at Mt. Lanakilla? It felt mighty disappointing scaling that mountain with only wild Pokemon to fight... unlike previous games where you fought various trainers on the way to the League. Not to mention the Icium was just sitting there.

I'd love to actually earn all the elemental z-crystals this time, none laying about somewhere completely random like Ice, Flying, and Psychic were in Ultra.

Thing is, seven trial captains have already been confirmed on the Japanese website with an unmanned eighth trial potentially being run by Ryuki. I can't see them making anymore trials, and I'm confident that Kahili's gonna become Akala's new Kahuna. You could use the "parallel unviverse" defence, but then we also have to bear in mind that Mina was already a trial captain in SM too - she just didn't make a trial. Technically, if Mina had done her job properly, there would be eight trials - just as many as I'd suspect there to be in USUM.

Except for the fact that it was explicitly stated that the island challenge in SM was only 7 trials and that was that. Even before the games were released this was stated to be true for that universe. Perhaps the fact the the league has already been established in USUM changes the guidelines for how many trials there are.
