It's my first attempt at a RMT, but... anyway, this is a new UU team, according to Smogon's tiers as it is now. This team's undefeated so far (in UU anyway...), and I'm really happy with it. There are just a few rough edges I'd like smoothed out with a little help.
Nidoqueen- Lead.
EV spread: 252 HP 252 defense 6 Attack
Nature: Relaxed.
Item: leftovers
Moves:
-Toxic Spikes
-Roar
-Poison Jab
-Earthquake
While Toxic spikes may not work well in UU, it has huge payoffs once they're set. it is a generic Physical wall of the team, while setting up Toxic Spikes to start the stallish style of this team. Roar is always a useful move to have, for obvious reasons, and works well with Toxic Spikes. Poison Jab and Earthquake is there for STAB attacks, where Earthquake discourages Poisons from switching in to absorb Toxic Spikes.
Uxie- Special Wall 1
EV spread: 252 HP 252 Sp.Defense 6 Sp. Attack
Item: Leftovers
Moves: Calm
Stealth Rock
Reflect
Toxic
Psychic
The concentrated Sp Defense EVs allow Uxie to sponge special hits well, and if a physical threat shows up to take advantage of Uxie's lower Physical defense, shove a Reflect in their faces and watch them cry. Reflect not only helps the whole team in softening Physical blows, the omnipresent Pursuit is made less scary. Stealth Rock is a useful asset to have on any team, and works well with Nidoqueen's Roar to shuffle through the opponent's team and inflict damage. It also helps to keep certain threats like Moltres and Scyther at bay. Toxic is there as a failsafe should Toxic Spikes fail, and Psychic is there for STAB, and to make sure Uxie is not completely stopped by Taunt.
Of course, the obvious drawback is Uxie cannot deal with Steels.
Moltres- The Star player.
Nature: Bold
Item: Leftovers
EV Spread: 248 HP, 148 Defense, 112 Speed.
Moves:
Substitute
Roost
Toxic
Flamethrower
I chose to go with the SubRoost set for Moltres because this IS a stalling team. Moltres is a must for this team due to it's boatload of resistences and it's immunity to burns. Moltres serves as a useful wall due to it's massive list of resistences. Moltres is by no means slow, and can use Substitute to scout for moves, after which I can switch to an appropriate counter, especially if it's a choiced Pokemon. Substitute, Roost and Pressure means I can outstall alot of pokemon, especially if they're slower, especially if you add bad poison into the mix. While Moltres is deathly afraid of Stealth Rock, it is an indispensible defensive pokemon in this team.
Blastoise- The Spinning Wall.
Nature: Bold
Item: Leftovers
EV Spread: 252 HP, 252 Defense, 6 Sp.Defense
Moves:
Toxic
Protect
Rapid Spin
Surf.
To remedy Moltres' phobia of stealth rocks, a spinning turtle is a must. Water is a great walling type, with only 2 weaknesses that is resisted by it's team mates. Toxic is, as stated, for the sake of Toxic Spikes Failing. protect to scout for attacks, and to stall for toxic Damage. Rapid Spin is a definite must, for Moltres' sake, and Surf is there to take Advantage of STAB, and Torrent Should Blastoise fall to low enough health.
Sceptile- Finally, a sweeper!... Or so you thought.
Nature: Timid
Item: Leftovers
EVs: 252 Sp.Atk, 252 Speed, 6 Sp.def
Moves:
Substitute
Leech Seed
Grass Knot/ Energy ball/ Leaf Storm
Hidden power Fire.
A stalling sweeper. Wow, that's a first. Subseed is an evil strategy, and Sceptile
s the second fastest user of it, second only to Skymin, who probably would be Uber. This effectively means Sceptile is the fastest user of Subseeding in UU. Substitute's usefulness is alredy explained. It scouts moves, stalls for poison damage, protects from status, and of course, for the Subseed strategy. Grass Knot's usefulness is debatable. It has pitiful base power against the ever annoying Lanturn, and I've got static haxed off it twice. Energy Ball is for consistent power, and the occasional Sp.Def drop is useful. Leaf Strom might seem silly for a stalling pokemon, but with STAB and possibly overgrow, it hits incredibly hard, and most of the time Sceptile
s going to be stalling anyway. HP Fire is for those pesky grasses whom resist leech Seed and the grass move of choice, and since Sceptile is the fastest Grass in UU he should be able to leave a huge dent on his fellow grasses, possibly even KOing the defensive grasses if he has a Substitute up. Sceptile's Speed is also useful for revenge killing if the need arises.
Glaceon- Because I'm me.
nature: Modest
Item: Salac Berry
EV spread: 252 Sp.Atk 252 Speed, 6 HP
Moves:
Substitute
ice Beam
Hidden Power Electric/Fighting/Ground
Baton pass
First of all, this set, along with the nickname, "Cuteon", is copyrighted!
Ok, just kidding. This is a Glaceon set that I made myself. Substitute is for stalling, and to Activate Salac Berry for a hopeful sweep during late game. However, if Glaceon is forced to activate Salac Berry too early in the game for a sweep, it can pass the speed boost to a team mate, and hopefully even a good Substitute.
Ice Beam is there for obvious reasons. With it's monsterous Sp Atk and STAB, ice beam's gonna leave a huge dent in anything that does'nt outright resist it. For those who dare try to get into Glaceon's Ice beams, they will probably eat a hard, Super Effective Hidden power. Electric is for Mantine, and mimics the popular "BoltBeam combo". Fighting is suggested by Smogon, so don't ask me why it's so great. I mean yeah, it hits steels, but Steelix is 2KOed by Ice Beam, and Aggron is unquestionably one shotted by HP ground. Hp ground also has the benefit of smacking a certain electric fish hard in the fats, which proves useful, or it would be making Glaceon cry all day.
Grumpig laughs this set off though
So there you have it. My current UU team. Let me point out a few flaws for you readers to hopefully correct.
Nideoqueen gets forced out too early and too often.
Nideoqueen- She gets forced out too early to set up spikes, due to her inconvenient weaknesses... Also, Toxic Spikes often fails in UU battles. An alternative is:
Steelix
Steelix offers useful Normal, Flying and Ghost resists. It has higher base defense and can shuffle, set up Stealth Rocks, and hit reasonably hard with Earthquake. Lacking Toxic Spikes does sting sometimes though.
Of course, if I were to use Steelix in place of Nideoqueen, Uxie would have a Dual Screen set in place of Stealth Rocks.
Lack of Status Absorbers.
Most of this team do not like status at all. Nideoqueen may be able to soak up Thunder Waves and Toxic, but as stated, it has alot of inconvenient weaknesses and faints fairly early in the game. Also, it is not immune to Stun Spore.
Sleepers are pricks too. No one likes to be asleep >.>
Of course, a Cleric would solve the problem, but fitting a cleric in would mean sacrificing someone important.
Sweepers! :O
And I mean the lack of reliable ones. When there is something I have to revenge Kill, Sceptile is the best option due to it's speed. However, Grass Knot is unreliable, and HP fire does jack when neutral. Glaceon is slow without her Salac Boost, meaning that this team is prone to being swept should a sweeper with a huge type coverage appear, Like Manectric.
Let's get physical!
lack of Physical sweepers hurt. Nidoqueen hits like a pussy, and something like a Sub CM Mismagius can easily set up and sweep this team.
So there you have it, the shortcomings of my team. Any information is gratefully accepted.
