Eeveelution, don't double post and don't post random smilies, please.

Seriously, they CAN'T make two videos (including a live demo of two women with Diamond and Pearl battling one another) in which a feature that all the fans have been craving for years has been implemented and then suddenly take it out and not have it in the actual game. There's no way they can think they'll get away with that, period.

You make a good point, but would it really surprise you that much? Keep in mind just how much work Genius Sorority would have to put in for all Pokés to make physical contact with each other. I mean, a Flamethrower or Ice Beam attack is easy enough to pull off, but then you have something like Doubleslap.

Let's use some examples here, with the aforementioned Doubleslap move. First, Chansey versus Lickitung. They're about the same height (Chansey 3' 07", Licki 3' 11"), so Chansey could easily slap Licki in the face. Now let's say instead of Chansey fighting Lickitung, we have Jigglypuff fighting Licki instead. Jigglypuff is less than half of Licki's height, so what's it going to do, slap Licki's belly? No, they'd have to add an animation where Jiggly leaps or floats up in the air to slap Licki. Now let's say it's Chansey versus Caterpie. If Chansey used her normal Doubleslap animation against Caterpie it would pass right over it, because Chansey is over three times its height. So in this case, they would have to add an animation where Chansey bends down to slap Caterpie, but considering Chansey's girth and short arms, I doubt that would be possible. See what I'm getting at? =/

Anyway, Genius Sorority probably found out through development how hard this would be to pull off, so they most likely just took the cheap way out and went with switching from one Poké attacking to the other one receiving again. This doesn't really surprise me, though; after all these are the same people who recycled the Nintendo 64 era Poké models for the Gamecube generation. =P

You make a good point, but would it really surprise you that much? After all, these are the same people who thought that they could get away with recycling the Nintendo 64 Stadium models for use in the Gamecube Colosseum and XD. =P

that's different. At least with Colosseum, they didn't show us screenshots of old Pokemon being improved only to crap on that a minute later.

Well, if it's like the first Stadium we'll be able to turn the annoying announcer off, so don't worry. Still, maybe in the US version, instead of investing the voice files for those godawful announcer quotes, they'll invest them in giving the Pokémon voices. It'd be the smart thing to do since a Pokémon's cry takes up about the same amount of space as the announcer saying its name, and video game companies have been known for making changes for stateside releases. For example, giving Dragon Quest VIII voices when there weren't any in the original Japanese version. =)

are you f***in' kidding me? There are several people who are just fine with the Pokemon's cries in the games, and if anything, there'd be more dissatisfaction with changing them to the anime cries. Chances are, unless they are willing to use up a s***load of space for unique variants of voices based on personality, gender, and/or the situation in which they cry out (standing there, attacking, getting hit, fainting, etc.), then all you'll really have is Pokemon monotonously droning their names repeatedly, much like the English dub of the anime. Plus, some people would just prefer the Pokemon to sound more animalistic rather than saying their name in a rather humanistic voice.

Well, they may have found out that having the monsters make contact is harder than they thought, with the sheer number of monsters and various ways that they can make contact.....So they may have taken the cheap and easy way out again. Just a thought. =/

um... if Dialga using Stomp on Groudon in the previous video was any indication, it really wasn't that complicated (I've always stated how having Pokemon make direct contact with eachother could work much the same way it does in other 3D RPGs. For instance, you see a character run up and perform a basic sword slash animation, regardless of the opponent. If the opponent is too big, the slasher's character model might overlap with the opponent's, and if the opponent is too small or is hovering about 10 feet in the air, the character will just slash at the air in front/below the opponent while the opponent will still manage to react. It might seem buggy without making some real fine touches based on specific scenarios, but it's really a small price to pay and still loads better over the crap in Stadium. Plus it seems so simple that no 3D RPG should have any excuse not to use it. Dialga's use of Stomp in front of Groudon without actually hitting it seemed like they were going to do just that).

Anyway, I don't know what the hell's the deal with Groudon's Dragon Claw in that scene, because right underneath the video, we see pictures of Groudon using Dragon Claw from the last video, and with the text bringing up how Pokemon making direct contact will be a new feature.

Okay Yamato-san, on your first point, I can understand where you're coming from. This would be like the whole Link/Ganon battle demo for the Gamecube, only to find out that the first Zelda game for the Cube would be using cel-shaded graphics. Wind Waker still ended up being a good game, though; not so sure about PBR after Colosseum and XD. =P

On your second point, maybe it wouldn't be a good idea to have the anime cries after all, seeing that the anime is now dubbed by a different group. Maybe instead.....the Poké cries from Diamond/Pearl? They're a whole lot better than those 8-bit cries they've been shoving on us for the first three generations. =)

On your third point, I just took a look at the video and the pictures again, and I can understand what you're getting at. Using basic animations for Pokés attacking might work as long as they're not too akward, like the Chansey/Caterpie thing I mentioned. Still, knowing what company is making this game, I won't be surprised if we don't get physical contact again. =/

That looks pretty neat - I liked the music, but Diaruga's stance looked a bit awkward. Fairly good graphics. I hope the Pokémon make more audible cries, though, and for the cries to be...how can I put this...animalistic. Though I like battling, I hope it's not completely and only about fighting - then it would get boring after a while. Then again, it's called "Pokémon Battle Revolution", but...here's to hoping there's some sort of background story or role-playing in the game.

The new tuxedo look!
WOW. Great find. Attack animations look awesome. Why didn't groudon's dragon claw touch diaruga?

The models and their texture look pretty aweful in my opinion. The lighting is great though, and I like the music a lot. I'm just hoping there will be exclusive legendaries in it not normally attainable in D/P. :)

It says that? Oh, good. Then I can breathe again.

Following what Yamato-san said, chansey would slap the air over caterpie and caterpie would still suffer the damage.

thank you. God, doesn't anyone pay attention? Hell, all of this should've been obvious ever since we saw Dialga using Stomp about a meter in front of Groudon. And yet we still have "Oh, how could they make so many animations for each Pokemon specific to every opponent?" topics being brought up. Baffling, really.

In any case, I suggest we get back to discussing why the hell Groudon's Dragon Claw didn't make contact that time. My guess is that it was a glitchy camera angle (notice that Groudon still appears to be walking forward before delivering the blow). Either that, or they happen to have an option to turn off the direct attacks, for those people who happen to be really, really nostalgic of the Stadium games or something (but that is quite a longshot... though, I think Dragon Quest VIII gives you the option to keep the classic front-view battle system).
