Um lets see, PS3 or Xbox30. Hmmmm, well, if it was up to me, then I would pick the PS3. The PS3 seems as if it will have better graphics, plus Final Fantasy will be exclusive (I think) to the PS3. But, if you were just looking for good shooters, like RE5, Either system would do sice RE5 is for both systems. But I would recommend to not buy the PS3 until at least 2-5 months after it is released. Waiting that long will allow more games to come out, and the price might just drop a bit.

Yeah, you should wait just a little while after it comes out to see the games. But I would recommend the XBox360, it has all the fps's everyone loves like Halo and possibilities for Final Fantasies on the 360. At the E3 convention Square announced that Final Fantasy 11 would be available on the 360. This is the first (and possibly only) time a Final Fantasy has been on an XBOX so this could mean more to come. Just wait for more info before you commit.

Have to agree here. If you like shooters, then the Xbox is definatly the choice. Last gen, the Playstation had more RPG's, but that seems to be changing with the 360, we already know that -eNCHANT arM-, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey and more will be coming out for it.. there's also all the western RPG's, Mass Effect, KotOR III, Jade Empire, Oblivion, etc. It's also rumoured that Final Fantasy XIII and Dragon Quest will be released for the 360.

And we also know the PS3 isn't going to be much more powerful, if at all than the Xbox 360. It also has the advantage of being out first, it's going to have a lot more games a lot quicker than the PS3 will have.

If I was picking between the PS3 and the Xbox 360, I would go with the PS3. Neither really appeal to me right now.

Would be nice if you guys actually gave reasons for picking one over the other, so that it isn't just blind hatred towards particulary systems or companys.

Just go and judge for yourself, no one is going to make a good decision for you, and do the logical thing, make a list of the games you actually want for the console, then compare. I'd wait a year or two into release before making a decision

It sounds like you basically want a PC anyway

Here's a game that sounds perfect for you: Lost Planet. It's a shooting/mech type game, with an RPG like story. Being made by Capcom, looking really good so far. You'll need bittorrent to download the trailer though.

It's not blind hatred, I had a PS2, I own an Xbox. I might consider getting a PS3 after a price drop to go along with my Revolution.

I would be interested in the PS3 over the Xbox 360 for a few reasons:

Blu-Ray disc format, holds a lot more then the Xbox 360 normal DVD and you can watch high definition movies.
Built in Wi-Fi.
True backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games.
Huge 3rd Party game list.

and the XBox doesn't have these things? (Backwards compatibility obviously for XBox games)

Already have xbox 360 and since our PS2 gets so much use as a DVD player we'll prolly get the PS3 just to make sure we have a PS incase we burn the 2 up like we did PS1. Already have my eyeball on the new nintendo console as our old one is getting a bit shabby and beat up with alot of use.

The 360's backwards compatability is rather limited at the moment, but most of the big games do work.. but give it time, and the rest will too. And hey, nobody said the PS3 wouldn't do the same thing ;p

And the 360 also has the Xbox arcade, where you can download lots of old arcade games such as Gauntlet, Bejewled, Pacman, etc to play. It even has a lot of really cool new games, Outpost Koloki X, Geometry Wars, etc. It's basically the same thing Nintendo is doing by being able to download old Nintendo games. Except with the 360 it's classic arcade games. But the new ones you can get are rather good.

**Sorry, I'm aware of how terrible that entire sentence was.. I'll fix it later if it doesn't actually make any sense to anyone.

Yes, it has backwards compatibility for some games, but they are missing a few of the best sellers. Also, there have been some glitches with some of the games running on the 360. Maybe it will be backwards compatible with every Xbox game by the end of the console generation, I'm not sure and we'll see how often Microsoft updates the list.

The games look and run better than they previously did. And they're updating the list every month.

Shooters and FPS's: Xbox 360, you got the ever popular halo, Gears of War and even more block buster shooting titles coming out frequently. If you are interested in shooters put your money on 360, because this is the only genre PS3 will lack in. Sure you got SOCOM and Call of Duty (which is 3rd party) but what else.

RPG's : PS3, so Xbox 360 has some support from square but that may only be temporary if sales like this keep up in Japan. PS3 is guarenteed to hit big in Japan along with dedicated support from square, atlus, namco etc.

Graphics: PS3, while it's graphics may not be as far ahead of 360 as sony claims, it still will be a noticibly more powerful console. Think Xbox graphics (PS3) to PS2's graphic's (360), halo didn't look too different from MGS2 but as time went on you saw how much better Xbox's (PS3's) graphics really were compared to PS2's (360's).

3rd party support: PS3, nearly all the game companies that worked on the PS2 will be making new games or sequels for the PS3 (except for Itagaki who moved to the xbox shortly after it's launch). Xbox 360 has a good bit more 3rd party support than Xbox but it still has some ways to go before surpasses PS3.

Backwards Compatibility: PS3, all of Playstation's and PS2's games will be playable on PS3 without the need of a hard drive. 360 requires a hard drive to play xbox games and it can't play all of them (say buh bye to munches oddysey, oddworld strangers wrath, Jet Set Radio Future, and sob :(...half life 2). Many gamers along with my friend (Jason) complain about random glitches such as ghosting in halo 2.

Storage medium: PS3, this is what caused me to skip 360 (eventhough it was hard to part with halo and half-life 2). PS3 will be using a more efficient blu-ray storage medium which will be needed to make games a couple years down the road. Microsoft wanted to launch 360 earlier in an attempt to get a head start in the competition, however because of this early launch they were not able to include an HD-DVD or blu-ray player in their console. This is what might hurt them a couple years in the future when one of these formats become a neccesity. They could have launched all the consoles with the hard drive and update later with a hard drive patch but the core package negated this.

Online: Xbox 360, eventhough Ken Kutagari and crew are planning a centralized online service nothing is totally solid. PS3 will still have online play (and it's free too) but it won't be like live. Xbox 360 has live a solid online service which will live on in the next generation (too bad it's $50.00 a year, well it's still less than cell phone bills).

Price: Xbox 360 and PS3 are both pretty expensive. PS3's price is yet to be announced but many expect a $400.00 price tag with sony taking an intense loss for the first couple years. Howard Stringer president of Playstation marketing said expect it to launch anywhere from $300.00-$400.00. If it launches at that price you actually get a better deal than purchasing a 360, due to blu-ray player and cell chip costing near that price together. Not to mention blu-ray players will cost near $1,000.00 so you are actually getting one for less than half-price.

My Reccomendation: wait for PS3, if you can live without a phenomenal shooter like halo or centralized online play, PS3 will be a much better console with outstanding support and future potential. The thing is that you wanted your next console mainly for FPS's in which 360 beats the crap out of PS3.

that helped me a lot i don't want to many shooters just a few so i think i'll go with the ps3 i'll pick it up maybe in november 06 and wait for the price to go down and for some more games also is the ps3 really going to have free online play i don't have to pay a cent do i still need a wireless router though.

No problem, I try to help in decisions like this so people can get the product they are most satisfied with. And yes PS3's online play is free but you still will have to buy an additional router (the integrated router was dropped due to PS3's expensive manufacturing prices). Once you buy one (around $40.00) every online game except Final Fantasy XI (separate fee, as with 360's version) will be free.
