Good point. Ash releases his pokemon because it's what is good for them. He is a great trainer because he loves his pokemon, and he won't be selfish and keep them for himself just because he wants to be a pokemon master. It's pretty sad that we might not ever see Pigeot, Butterfree, and Primeape again. We might be see Squirtle, Charizard, and Gliscor in a future league or something else important.

Except I think you're missing the point as GalladeRocks said the writers are the ones who are puppeteering the circumstances on the Pokemon being released.

So this "What's best for the Pokemon" doesn't really apply since it's actually "What's best for the writers' convenience."

They don't have to write these storylines in which a Pokemon gets released but they do so anyway. It's not really beneficial to the Pokemon at all to force these situations where the trainer doesn't get to use the Pokemon anymore.

I mean if it's Jessie or James then fine, make room for new gen Pokemon, then so be it. But other trainers really have the option to store their Pokemon. I don't care how convoluted the reason is to "box" the Pokemon, it's not nearly as convoluted as release stories. Which is mostly just convenience for the writers.

Some releases are okay like Butterfree, which really is the only one. Primeape and Pidgeot were not necessary at all, and makes their captures pointless. Especially since Pigeotto/Pidgeot never did very much for Ash like his other Pokemon. And Primeape was only his for about 3 episodes.

Releases like Lapras which was B.S was acceptable because Ash made a promise to find Lapras's family. Though they should've never found them But releases like Ambipom were COMPLETELY pointless, sure it gave Dawn access to Togekiss, but all Ambipom did for Dawn is help get her a ribbon. Ambipom's last contest ended up in defeat, it was completely stupid and ridiculous.

Dustox's release was necessary to give Jessie a 4th gen Pokemon. But Misty's Togetic, my goodness, what the hell was that? Bringing Misty back just to release her Togepi/Togetic. That was just sad.

But now Ash has absolutely no reason to release any of his Pokemon, and he'll never have any reason to release his Pokemon. I don't like seeing the Pokemon that I've watch for a long time, get put on the bus and never seen again, which makes it seem like the writer's made a mistake. "Oops, damn, shouldn't have given him that Pokemon."

I'd rather see a Pokemon rot in a box and rarely seen over never seen again, for whatever convoluted reason.

For the people saying Ash releases his pokemon for there own good, for butterfree and lapras I get it but Pidgeot's release was ********. And on top of that Ash promised to come back for it but never did. You think Ash did that for it's own good?? That's crap and u guys know it. And its not like the writers forgot about it because they even mention it in Falkners gym. They just ditched it for no reason.

Poor pidgeot. in kanto, he was my second favorite of ashes. first was kingler. why couldnt the writers bring it back in like battle frontier arc along with butterfree and primeape. its just sad how he leaves them and promises to return, but doesnt. ( if they make a kanto remake instead of a hoen one, which seems almost impossible, they MUST show pidgeot butterfree and primeape, maybe lapras)

I agree with this 99%

Pidgeot should come back for a few episodes or so. But I do agree with that Ash releases his Pokemon for his own good for example Charizard and Butterfree.

I really hope Ash is done with releasing Pokemon. Gliscor got to come back at least. But releasing is just annoying. Being sent back to Oak for "study" would be much better.

And just a thing I felt like pointing out: Could people stop posting sprites beside each other? When they're posted like that it just stretches the screen annoyingly. Putting them in a list (like under each other) is much better.

I agree, especially if you have massive images like the previous person did.

I have new predictions for Ash. As I have yet to post some Filler Saga teams. His Unova Team will be the same but i'll include a Filler Team at the end.

:521::- Regional Bird so It's evolving.
:503::- It seems to be the star Pokemon of the Saga so I see it fully evolving.
:499::- I see it evolving once to get stronger.
:495::- It's strong enough for the most part.
:560::- I see Iris' Axew fully evolving so I see it's Training Buddy evolving too.
:542::- Evolves by Friendship and Ash is a nice trainer.
:536::- Palpitoad is too awesome to evolve and I don't see two fully evolved Water Types.
:526::- I see it evolving to Boldore then he get's traded to Trip and then traded back.
:579::- I like the idea and I think it's possible for it to get caught in the Dream Theif episode
:613::- I still suport this idea. Maybe caught in the Beartic episode.
:555::- It could be his second Fire type aswell as his 12 Pokemon so Ash could have Two Teams.

Filler

;025;:- It's impossible for it to leave.
:503::- I see it staying.
:500::- I see it evolving to it's final stage. Maybe in a battle against it's old trainer.
:496::- If it does evolve I see it only being once.
;444;:- Since it was caught at the end of Sinnoh I see it returning and evolving.
;325;:- I like the idea. It could be the recurring Spoink in the AG even though that is very unlikely.

I see him catching another Hoenn Pokemon and he could maybe bring back Totodile.

I think Purrloin really suits Cilan, and it's appearing in the next episode. It could give him something to work with, as he doesn't have much development. I want one of his Pokemon to evolve, so Purrloin can evolve late in the series, about the seventh Gym.

Why is Ash the only one whose Pokemon have evolved?

I mean Ash is my favorite character but I don't want to see him with the only evolving Pokemon in the series.

Your ideas are great and some of them are what I was thinking of. The recurring spoink idea was great as I wanted it to be caught as well as the pidgeot returning. He did promise :D and I hope these ideas come true. The only thing I would add is totodile evolving and mentioning gible deciding to evolve again in the future, maybe in a battle frontier or league battle.

In a storytelling point of view yes but I meant that the story the writers come up with winds up with the Pokemon being better off where it is released/given/traded to. That's what I meant.

I'll be honest Misty's Togetic made a bit of sense. It provided closure to the Togepi "mystery" and personally I'm glad it left with style instead of staying in Misty's arms forever.

Well Togekiss did offer Dawn a pretty big flying type for her cute small Pokemon as seen in the Grand Festival. But you're mostly right. Togekiss should've been gotten sooner than it was to actually make it seem reasonable.

It didn't have to stay in Misty's arms forever. It could evolved, been a powerful Pokemon, that Misty could've used in her gyms, so that she didn't have all water types. I mean Misty doesn't have any water/ground Pokemon. Which is sad. Any electric Pokemon master could easily defeat Misty.

As I've said the reason I found it so ridiculous is because they brought Misty to the Hoenn region just for the sole reason of releasing it. It would be like bringing back Sceptile and then releasing it at the end.

I mean WTF, bringing back a Pokemon just to release it is bad writing in my opinion. I mean is there any reason why the writers would care to release a Pokemon like Sceptile by bringing it back for an episode?

Edit: I mean with Topepi they could've just had it evolve, and that would be fine. But that whole storyline was ridiculous, I mean it's like they couldn't think of any way to utilize Misty properly for her guest appearance in Hoenn.
