Since I got PBR in December I can answer your question. The nicknames stay. But if you are playing againsed a stranger on Wi-Fi all the names are changed to there regular spicies name for that battle. This prevents someone from battleing with someone with "inapropreate" nicknames. Unfortunaly the trainers names are not the same, I battled someone with the trainer name Bit** once.
