Well im gettin a team ready to battle a friend of mine.I really have my heart set on using my favorite pokemon nidoking but I know for sure he is gonna start with a Gengar.Should I avoid puttin my Nido one on one with it?I know for sure its gonna outspeed me and that he will use confuse ray most likely as his first attack.Any way I can get around that?

if you really want to use nidoking, and are scared of confusion then just give it a persim berry to get rid of the confusion first time round and teach your nidoking shadow ball. your opponent woulodve basically just wasted a turn and you get a good hit in with shadow ball. cant say much for a OHKO cos nido's sp. atk isnt great but still, its the only thing i can currently think of.

Ghost is a physical attacking move. And it would ohko Gar.
Also, give Nidoking a Choice Band to boost its attack more.

What the others said. Use Perism berry and pray that Shadow ball OHKO's Gengar...or you'll be in trouble if Gengar has psychic. Alternatively use a speedy psychic Pokemon with good special attack. Alakazam's pretty damn helpful at this. But Starmie's good too.

I forget whether there are any decent Own Tempo Pokemon that cannot be confused, if you dislike using the psychic type or risking Nidoking.

If you see that Gengar is his first pokemon and yor a weak one to it, switch.

Nidoking has good Attack, and Shadow Ball is a good move, all you need is to survive from Gengar's Psychic or to have luck and attack if your Nidoking is confused.

By the way... Tyranitar would be great.

I'd go on and use another pokemon. Nidoking has a great movepool but it's stats do not support it very well.

If you insist though the Shadow Ball+Choice Band will do fine...as long as Gengar doesn't have a significantly higher level than Nidoking.
