Yep, since Yuji Naka refuses to make a "NiGHTS Into Dreams..." sequel, I've decided to take matters into my own hands and make an RPG out of it. Now, so not to tamper with the already-perfect plot in NiGHTS Into Dreams, I simply made it about Wizeman's revival. Of course, several mechanics from the game itself were changed so that Nightmarens won't be the only ones able to fight. But rest assured, the general concept of NiGHTS Into Dreams remains untouched. So, without further adieu, I present to you of Serebiiforums.com, NiGHTS Into Dreams: Shadows in the NiGHT. If it turns out to be half as incredible as NiGHTS Into Dreams itself, then I've done my job.
Nightopia…the glorious world where humans go as they slumber. Each time a human enters this beautiful world, they bring with them a tiny little light, known as an Ideya. There are five types of Ideyas, each coming in a different color. And every color represents a different concept; white is purity, green is maturity, blue is knowledge, yellow is hope, and red is courage. Nightopia is watched over by an entity known as the Wizeman, whom boasts incredible power.
Until recently, all was well in Nightopia. When night fell and humankind slept, they would enter Nightopia carrying their Ideya. Their dreams would take place there, and they would soon thereafter leave and return to the world of the conscious. However, this soon changed drastically. Wizeman, who had once upon a time kept the peace in Nightopia, was becoming angry at the humans entering his domain and began a campaign to keep this from happening again. He built the kingdom of Nightmare, and raised an army known as the Nightmarians, which he intended to use to invade the rest of Nightopia and steal all human Ideyas, thus shutting out humankind altogether. In addition, if he were to collect all existing Ideyas, he would escape into the real world, where he would be unstoppable…
However…one agile Nightmarian, NiGHTS, did not like the idea of being ordered around by Wizeman, nor was he so keen on the idea of keeping humans out of Nightopia. Having gained an ability no other Nightmarian had- free thought- NiGHTS set out to find the last two remaining humans with the red light (Ideya) of courage. Although, upon finding out NiGHTS’s intentions, Wizeman ordered for NiGHTS to be imprisoned…
Elliot Edwards and Claris Sinclair…two children of Twin Seeds who had never before met but shared one quality; the red Ideya of courage. One night, the two simultaneously had nightmares with such great intensity that they are able to achieve lucidity, or a feeling of complete awareness and consciousness in a dream, at the exact same moment. Lucid dreaming brings the two children to Nightopia, where they were stripped of four of their five Ideyas: Purity, Wisdom, Knowledge, and Hope. But they are left with the near-invincible power of courage itself.
Commanding the power of Courage, the two were permitted entrance to the temple wherein NiGHTS is being held. Unbeknownst to each other, each one merges with NiGHTS and allows for him to escape the temple. Originally created to banish the human soul from Nightopia, NiGHTS embarked on a quest to stop Wizeman, aided by two children who had never met, and may never meet at all…
Together, though at the same time far apart, Elliot and Claris collected the stolen Ideyas as NiGHTS fought against the Nightmarians. Dream after dream, the two children drew ever-closer to the source of the situation. Questions were raised throughout their journey…was Nightopia real or just a very realistic dream? Would Claris and Elliot ever meet with each other? And, more importantly, would humans ever be free to visit Nightopia once more?
Eventually, NiGHTS was imprisoned yet again by Wizeman just as Claris and Elliot’s quest was coming to its end. Helpless and without the power of NiGHTS to aid them, Claris and Elliot found that through their adventures, they’d gained enough courage to fly just as NiGHTS himself! So, collecting the final stolen Ideyas, NiGHTS was freed once more. In a final showdown with Wizeman, NiGHTS and the other newly-freed Nightmarians were able to defeat the monstrosity. Humans were once again free to visit Nightopia, and our world was safe…
Or so it was thought.
Since Wizeman was defeated, Nightopia has been returned to its former glory. Humans are once more free to come and go as they please each night, allowed to enjoy the wonders the world has to offer. In the real world, the dreams of Elliot Edwards and Claris Sinclair have become reality, and NiGHTS now watches over Nightopia in Wizeman’s place, though he is not so much a ruler as he is a guardian angel for the people of Nightopia.
However, once more Nightopia is in peril. Somehow, some way, Wizeman was able to revive himself. Whether it was done by another living creature…or if he was never truly defeated…nobody is exactly sure. But nevertheless, he’s back and stronger than ever. You see, over the last few years, Wizeman has been slowly recovering in the shadows, completely hidden from all other life in the world of Nightopia. NiGHTS, unaware of Wizeman’s unexplained comeback, continued to fly about Nightopia freely, unaware that he was failing at his self-assigned duty to protect its inhabitants.
So, while the people of Nightopia had their guard down, Wizeman attacked. Imprisoning NiGHTS for a third time, as well as the other high-level Nightmarens, Wizeman raised yet another army of Nightmarens, this one more powerful than the previous. He then proceeded to sap every last bit of free will from the minds of the Nightmarens, so that they were once again under his control. This time, however, he wasn’t simply planning to shut humans out of Nightopia and escape into our world, rather he was attempting to turn both earth and Nightopia into horrid worlds comprised solely of the worst nightmares possibly conceived by any living being. His army of Nightmarens started stealing Ideyas yet again, and Wizeman’s horrible campaign began once more…except this time…Wizeman had more power than ever.
But, like the last time, NiGHTS and NiGHTS alone was able to break free of Wizeman’s control, however much it weakened his mind. He was able to escape Wizeman and his army altogether, though was severely weakened to the point where he was near death. Bleeding, and with little time left, NiGHTS used the last of his energy to send a message to the world of the humans, only able to be heard by someone with the red light of courage.
Yes…as of now, Elliot’s and Claris’s Red Lights of Courage are dormant for some unknown reason, so they cannot hear NiGHTS’s desperate plea for help. However…it is now the next generation of human life, and luckily six humans were born with the Red Courage Ideya. Whether this is just a coincidence, or a miracle, is another thing nobody is quite sure of. However, one way or another, six Red Ideyas exist, and all six of them are within human beings.
And yet, while these Ideyas are identical to the ones held by Claris and Elliot, they are at the same time very different. True, they still hold the unquenchable power of courage. But now, they give its holder one more ability; the power to take on the form of a Nightmarian while in Nightopia. This means that six “ordinary” people could have powers equal to those of NiGHTS himself; being able to transform from Human to Nightmarian at will. Which is good, because until NiGHTS is restored to his former glory, these six people are the only things standing between Wizeman and inter-dimensional domination.
…you have four choices: You can either play as one of the six humans with the red light of courage who enters Nightopia upon hearing NiGHTS‘s cry for help, an inhabitant of Nightopia trying to escape Wizeman’s wrath, one of the existing, canon Nightmarians (NiGHTS, Puffy, Gilwing, Gulpo, Clawz, or Reala), or a new Nightmaren you just made up. Keep in mind, however, that if you choose a Nightmaren you shall either be on the side of Wizeman, bar NiGHTS, although he is weakened to the point where he is near death. If you choose to be a Nightmarian, however, I will allow you to break free of Wizeman’s control. Just PM me asking me to do so. If I believe that you deserve it, I’ll let you break free and go to the side of the Nightopians/humans.
