Here is my Ninetails and I'm not sure what to use in order to replace Fire Spin, other than that here's it's moveset (make other suggestions too):

Confuse Ray
Grudge
...Fire Spin... <-yuck

toxic is a good option over fire spin. your set-up looks good though. be sure to make it modest so flamethrower will actually do something though. substitute is usually ok so you can get it in before they attack, and it will help you time your grudge better.

Hmm so many possible options. Well, many replies seem to be in favor of flamethrower and confuse ray (duh lol) which I always planned on keeping. I already removed Fire Spin with Attract, and it worked brilliantly against my friend earlier in every match (except against his legendary team). However, not so many in favor of Grudge. I like grudge as a defensive maneuver, yet other attacks seem to intrigue me such as Toxic. Imagine a pokemon being confused, poisoned, and attracted. What do you people think, KEEP or REMOVE grudge for something else?

Never use Will-O-Wisp and Confuse Ray on the same set.

The damage your opponent does to itself is based off it's attack, while Will-O-Wisp dramatically decreases your opponents attack. The only situation that would work in is the case of a Pokemon such as heracross or Ursaring that knows Guts. In which case they attack and you die anyway.

Hypnosis is always fun to try. I'd use Wow over Confuse Ray.

Fire Blast > Flamethrower. Ninetales doesn't have much attacking power so you'll want to get as much out of it as possible. Grudge is great for annoying something when your done. Double Team makes babies cry. :(

again i would like to point out that using will-o-wisp and confuse ray is not seen as a strategy to deal major damage. the point of using those two together would be to give someone time to set up, not to deal raw damage. no one expects to win the battle based on a pokemon beating itself with confusion, nor do they expect will-o-wisp to beat a pokemon on it's own. the two are designed as annoyances, not raw damage, that's what flamethrower is for(though i do agree that fire blast is almost needed for power). the idea is that once disabled, you can switch to someone and stat up relatively easily if they stay in. and if they don't then you have either a free set up turn, a free damaging turn (focus punch ftw) or you can lay down some spikes or switch to another status and hit them again. but wait until d/p for hypnosis because its accuarcy will be 70 in the 4th generation

1. Never knew Will-o-Wisp reduced attack power, by how much?

2. I have actually been considering Fire Blast instead of Flamethrower, just need to throw a PPup on that sucker.

3. 70 ata for hypnosis in d/p? Awesomeness!

The point is to slowly decrease your opponent's health while they can't hit you, thus the reasoning of Confuse Ray and Will-O-Wisp. Ninetales can't deal that much damage so this is the best she can do.

thats the one I have so I strongly reccomend it thats if you want to bred for those moves anyway its a lot of work.

^No that’s a bad set. Double Team is for noobs and Extrasensory won’t do much.

Seriously, Ninetales is not Gengar. It can’t learn that many good moves, so a lot of the sets you think are good, in reality, aren’t good.
This is the only set that really works:

Ninetales @Leftovers
Flamethrower
Will-o-wisp
Substitute/Confuse Ray
Grudge

Additional attacks over WoW are Toxic and Hypnosis.

*sigh* double team is useless with out bright powder otherwise its not that bad so please dont take a quick pot shot at me and make yourself look so smart its rude. Im a noob to this site I admit but not to pkmn Ive got all gold symbols on my frontier pass and if you think Im a noob stick around Ill be happy to play you when diamond and pearl come out. the combo works out for me dont discredit something until you test it. your probably one of the respected users on this forum so Ill probably get flamed some more w/e.

oh and your move set is worse sorry, will-o-wisp is inaccurate, confuse ray is good but dont use it cuz there are better moves. the only reason people dont like double team is because we all know how ****** off people get when all moves miss pretty frustrating but it doesnt make it any less effective saying its for noobs.

Umm......you'd be fine if you just said DT was useless without Brightpowder. Luck never works, my friend. Strategy works much better against a living human being.

The ingame AI is a complete pushover when compared to competitive battling. And people actually know when to switch.

With or without brightpowder, you should never consider double team before any other moves.

Sure.

the combo works out for me dont discredit something until you test it.
Movesets with Double Team in them don't need to be tested since they are automatically inferior to the standard movesets.

It's not my moveset. It's the standard moveset.

will-o-wisp is inaccurate,
Will-o-wisp is one of Ninetales's best moves, it's the only way it can handle physical attackers with Earthquake or Rock Slide. That alone makes up for the inaccuracy.

There are better reasons, like:
*Even with 6 DTs, your opponent can still hit you.
*Instead of using DT, you could be using more reliable moves
*Haze
*You allow your opponent to set up as well.
*Perish Song
*Taunt

but it doesnt make it any less effective saying its for noobs.
Even though it is.
