Nintendo Direct Thread

Hopefully they announce some 3DS games, its 2015 lineup is pretty lacking.
That's a problem that Nintendo seems to have right now. They mainly focus on one of it's consoles, for example it was a great year for the 3DS in 2014. It received a lot of great titles while the Wii U got some but was still lacking, now in 2015 it's the Wii U's turn.

I got woke up by tweet's to catch the last 5-10 mins of the Direct. Thanks to GameXplain I can go watch the trailers of games I'm most interested in. So the rumor was true that the New 3DS/3DS XL is releasing in NA on Feb 13th. I'm probably going to skip MH4U because I just don't have enough time to play it, was a little bummed seeing the limited edition New 3DS XL bundle for it. However they announced a bundle for a limited edition New 3DS XL for Majora's Mask so I'm definitely gonna try and get that :D

That's not the problem, they showed off a good balance of Wii U and 3DS titles. The problem is that there wasn't a lot of genre diversity, the majority of the announcements were casual games and JRPGs. If you're not into either of those kinds of games there wasn't much for you.

If the movie this July is not going to show anything from the next games (which is pretty much confirmed after Hoopa's revelation and how you can obtain Unbound form in OR/AS), then there won't be one in 2015.

I don't get what the movies have anything to do with the games. Maybe they actually added in Hoopa's Unbound form early so that it'd be compatible with ORAS and X2/Y2/Z someday instead of not patching compatibility like how some Pokémons and moves from ORAS aren't compatible with XY.

How much is console sales tax? I know for sure I won't be paying exactly $200 for the n3DS XL. Having the MM3D n3DS XL and MM3D sold separately is the dumbest of dumb when Europe is getting the game pre-installed with the system. Also, is Nintendo gonna put up the Direct on Youtube soon? I woke up on the very last minute of it (only saw the MM n3DS announcement), and it's still showing the "Thanks for watching" or whatever end message.

Lol Not only has Gamefreak released a main Pokèmon game every year since 2008 Pokémon, the franchise also reuses lots of assets from previous games and are very cheap to make. It's a definition of a cash cow, and not having Pokemon X2/Y2/Z releasing this year is like Activision not releasing a new COD or Ubisoft not releasing a new Assassin's Creed this year. Zero percent of that happening. Pokèmon X2/Y2/Z may not be announced tomorrow, but maybe closer to E3, like how ORAS was announced on May 2014.

It's worth mentioning that Pokemon has only been yearly internationally because of the trend towards a worldwide release, in Japan there was a gap in 2011 in between BW1 and BW2. Although Masuda did make comments about not wanting to spend as much time in development, so I think the series is starting to become yearly.

I liked the Direct. Splatoon was shown, which was the best part for me, and we got amiibo support which was pretty cool too. I'm laughing at the people who're whining about no Zelda U or Starfox despite the fact that this was clearly stated to be for SPRING games which meant Zelda and Fox had all of zero chance of being shown.

Is there any good tl;dr of what's been announced/discussed other than new dating sim FE trailer, N3DS is only available in XL (thank god. There's no reason for screens to be so freaking small in this day and age) and um... something about lol3Dzelda Majora's Mask release date?

He's spoken English since 2008, Smash just didn't get the memo.

I found some of the regional choices in the Direct to be a bit odd, like the EU one not mentioning Hyrule Warriors or Kirby at all yet revealing Xenoblade 3D getting a Sound Test.

The normal 3DS XL would have been a slightly cheaper alternative, no matter how small the screen. The more options the better.

I think I'll go pre-order the MonHun4Ult n3DS XL at GameStop tonight. I don't care for MonHun at all, but the system design looks much better than MM3D's IMO.

You get these kinds of people every Direct, coming in expecting bombshell after bombshell as if Nintendo can just crank them out like crazy.

Still though, there really wasn't a whole lot to get excited for in this lineup, all of the new announcements were the same two genres.

The New Nintendo 3DS Majora's Mask bundle is already unavailable on Gamestop's website. I knew it was gonna be hot but man it just came up.

When was the last time Nintendo dropped a bombshell? LOL.

Q3 2012. Bayonetta 2, exclusive to the Wii U. I think it was announced on the very last Nintendo Direct before the Wii U launched.

Oh boy that Majora's Mask XL is horrific.

Why can't Nintendo get it through their thick skulls? Having cool colors or designs doesn't matter IF IT'S ON PARTS OF THE SYSTEM YOU WILL NEVER SEE. There is PLENTY of space for designs on the FRONT OF THE SYSTEM WHERE YOU'D ACTUALLY SEE IT (buttons/screen/etc).

Barring that, why are we back to the dual color (gold/black) design?

I'd hardly call that a "bombshell". But yeah, they rarely announce big games in Nintendo Directs, most of their big games are saved for E3. The only exceptions I can think of are Pokemon XY (which got a Direct to itself) and Kirby Triple Deluxe.

Nintendo's issue with hyping is that they reveal every little detail of a game before its release. This was done with OR/AS, which just further served along with a colossal amount of other issues to make the final product so disappointing---zero surprises make it feel like it's pointless to get. You know exactly what's in it before it even comes out.

That "Fire Emblem If" reveal trailer to start things off with... Really glad to see that Awakening is getting a sequel in a sense after the whole talk that Awakening was going to be the final entry in the series if it didn't sell well. When it first came up, I thought it was Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem - which is either canned in favor of this or is going to be held off until E3 if it's still alive.

It's also great to see that Metroid Prime Trilogy is coming to eShop along with other Wii titles since it makes the ridiculous high prices more easier to avoid while still getting a legit reward in a legit way.

Codename Steam has gone from a plausible to a definite yes after that reveal of amiibo functionality with Fire Emblem characters and all.

The only disappointment was Pokèmon Shuffle since it's a Freemium game. Business wise, It's smart and I like it that they are trying to keep up with modern times; Consumer wise, it's an addiction machine.

It's great to see that Donkey Kong is back as a playable character along with the addition of Rosalina in Mario Party 10. The best thing I have to say now about the game is the amiibo Party because it's a really clever edition to the series and kind of reminds you of the Mario Party eReader game. Though what would be interesting if we see future DLC make it's way in the future like Mario Kart 8.

Lastly, 'new' 3DS XL is coming out alongside MM3D in the states! Can't believe that it is going to be released here in about 30 days after the system was just announced today and Majora's announced back in November. I was expecting it to be sometime around the middle of March but early February is sure way better to me.

Okay, so they sure found a way to keep me interested for the whole Direct. Opening with a new Fire Emblem title? I'm interested, kinda hope it's a completely new game but another Mystery of the Emblem to Awakening type transition would be cool too. The battle transitions look fantastic as well. Hopefully they learned from Awakening's releases and don't have the US and especially EU waiting so long after Japanese release. Also delays.

No Pokemon outside of spin-offs was expected, though it's interesting to see them continue with a more puzzle centric variation of Trozei. They really do seem to be pushing this puzzle game thing though I'm not surprised. Also a lot of cool amiibo compatibility, I hadn't considered the Fire Emblem amiibos getting use in another game and fitting the art style is very clever.

Seeing Wii games added to the Wii U eShop is a fantastic addition too, Nintendo showed off a lot of neat stuff even if I'm really only interested in Fire Emblem.

Oh yeah, and with coverage on Xenoblade Chronicles X, Fossil Fighters and Splatoon feel free to bump those existing threads for those games/series.
