Nintendo-mobile?
In recent news, Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, has announced that he plans to expand the company to include an automotive manufacturing sector. As of June 12, 2006, Iwata has confirmed this and elevated the widely spread rumor to the status of fact, saying "The automobile industry is quite lucrative. It was a natural evolution for our company."
Not many details are known as of yet pertaining to the specifics of Nintendo's new automobile sector or the automobiles that it will produce. All that Nintendo has announced concerning this project is that it's philosophy of "disruptive innovation" will carry over to this new endeavor. Iwatu also mysteriously remarked that Nintendo Motors will make it a primary goal to "change the way you think about driving".
Iwatu then went on to set a tentative price point for their first sedan at 460,000 yen ( about $4,000 U.S.D.). Even at this low sticker price, it is expected that Nintendo will profit richly on each model sold as analysts are predicting a 1 dogpowered (as opposed to the popularly used unit of horsepower), 1 cylinder engine. The Nintendo Motors sedan is also expected to only serve the purpose of driving. Nintendo representative Reggie Fils-Aime has remarked that "People do not want radios and CD players in their cars, much less onstars or services like that, which convolute the traveling experience." Instead, Nintendo has stated that it's automobile will feature innovative features that relate to driving only. Side-lights in addition to headlights are one such feature as well as retractable "training-wheel" extensions that prevent any possible tip-over.
Nintendo fans around the world are already being forced to defend the term "training-wheel" (which Fils-aime was quoted as calling them), saying "It's St33l n0t kidd3h!!".
When asked in an interview to reveal more details concerning Nintendo's new automobile, Iwata simply told us, "You'll have to wait and see.", leaving us to assume that many more secrets are being kept about this wildly anticipated project.
Analysts project the first Nintendo Motors vehicle to reach U.S. shores April 1, 2010.
