dear God in heaven, what will Nintendo do next?!

When the Nintendo Revolution hits stores next year it will feature a password feature to allow parents to control access for their children. This way, a parent can limit the games their children are able to play based on their ratings, while still being able to play the most risqué of games themselves. Its basically a V-chip for your Nintendo.

Gaming as we know it will come to an end. ;-;

Any parents that will actually know about that, and would do it wouldn't buy their kids those games anyway

1. there is a stickied Revolution topic already.
2. Xbox360 uses it as well
3. Pretty neat feature and does it matter. If you get games your parents either accept it already or aren't involved so you can start the Revolution and just type in a password and set a limit or no limit and if you do have a limit there is a system where you put in a password.

Do realize that this is BETTER seeing as now this would probably put a stop to all the complaints of video games being bad sources of influence on kids. Think of it like the Playstation 2 DVD player that asks you to input a password when a DVD inserted is for a certain age range.

And besides, if you're already old enough to play every game and pretty much set up the console to not lock out certain games, it shouldn't even be a bother. o_O

You're completely overreacting.

Actually doesnt the Xbox have something like this , but not so much detail. The Xbox can block games rated for whatever you want blocked, but no time setting. Well, this isnt too bad as my parents probably wouldnt even use it.

The pointless thing about this: No parent I know touches consoles, or other than that will actually play there Sons/Doughters consoles and would want 18 rated games.

The good thing about this: If its possible maybe its a start to shut up Jack Thompson :p

The guy has had his lisence to practice law removed already :D

But what about houses that have teenagers and 5 year olds? Unless certain games are password protected there might be a problem.

Also does this mean that rev will be able to play violent gamecube games when password protected?

All you have to do is set the password before your parents. No big deal. That is if they even touch your console. Fact of the matter is almost 98% of parents don't even know how to use any game system let alone set locks.

I could just imagine if a parent set them up for someones birthday.

Revolution: Ok then, how old is your Son/ Daughter?

Parent: 17 (They wouldn't be too happy for their 18th lol.)

Even though most parents I know wouldn't know how to set locks, maybe thats what the tv remote like comtroller is for. Most parents I know can watch and use a TV. Then again I guess I did set a few channels up before we got Sky.

I see this as more of nitnendo trying to show people that games aren't bad for you. To be fair, no one is really going to set this stuff up. If the parent doen't hink the game is suitable they won't let the kid buy it. Simple as that.

How many of us wish it were that simple. Otherwise, parents wouldn't be going off about their kids playing GTA.

lol its not a big deal all you have to do is add your own password before they find out about that feature or before they get chance to do it:p

Hey, at least morons like Jack Thompson will quit whining that video game companies don't care.

This doesn't affect me at all. My mom lets me play whatever regardless of rating.

I think its a good thing so if kids are mental they aren't able to play violent games...thats all I can say. I have never been stopped from playing a game before.

You guys are all complaining... most Nintendo fans have parents that are too stupid to be able to figure out how to use it. Even on DirecTV, I'm the only one who actually uses the program guide and sets the channels to switch when certain shows come on. Most of todays 6 year olds can use technology better than their parents. This won't cause any problem at all.

...well the controller for the revolution was meant to draw non-gamers to the system, so if someones parents mistake it for a tv remote and find out it's a video game console, they can figure out how to set parental controls. If it's YOUR Revolution that you buy in 2006, I think the buyer should set it as soon as possible so if their parents actually do use it then they won't have a choice with parental controls.
