Nintendo W-fi and PSP

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I was wondering whether the Nintendo usb wireless adapter (the MKDS one) would work for putting the PSP online?

This is a good question, but i am not to sure of the answer. I would think that the consoles have different frequencies, but if they both work with routers, then it would sound logical that the answer would be yes, but do not take my word for it. Wait until someone else answers. Interesting question.

I doubt it, otherwise it would essentially be exactly the same as a normal wireless router

Which it could be due to the fact that in NOM (Nintendo Official Magazine UK) say that if you have wireless broadband then you can connect if not by the USB adaptor. This could mean that it just turns it wireless to an extent. Interesting question. I would imagine that Nintendo won't allow it though, is an obvious thing to see and something that Nintendo would have probably thought about.

They may have some intergrated software in it that only allows it to connect to nintendo consoles. That is the only way that they could prevent it.

And in what issue of NOM did it say that? I must have skimmed past it.

It is Issue 160 December 2005 Page 22-23, its spreadout through the page.

Hopefully in a week or so someone on here will be able to try it.
I also read in NOM that it's like a normal wireless adapter.

If it was a router for anything don't you think they would market it as that? and it would be more expensive. It probably would only support WEP anyway

I am thinking about getting Mario Kart once it launches in Europe, but the thing is I don't have a wireless network so I can't go online. So I am planning to buy the Wi-Fi connection USB Dongle. Now here's my question does it work for my PlayStation Portable too? Can I go online with my PSP with the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Dongle? Keep up the good work.

The USB Connector won't work with the PSP because it's made for the DS. It's essentially a way for the DS to talk to a PC without a cable…that's it. The internet sharing's being handled by XP's inherent code. The USB adapter doesn't have any idea how to connect or talk to a PSP, and even if it did, the software (the interface that lets the user enable or disable the DS connection) probably wouldn't allow the connection anyway.

Guess not...

Well it makes perfect sence when you think about it cause as Paradox stated, if it was for connecting any wireless device to the internet, then it would be marketed as that and would be much more expensive. I think that this is a really good question to be answered and it will probably end up getting lost in a month. The question has been answered so the thread should be closed now.
