No More 4Kids for Sonic (and other Sonic stuff)

Credit to Sonic-Cult's 54Spindash for this info.

4Kids:
4Kids will be dubbing this and Secret Rings, but they will be the last 4Kids dubbed games, as Sonic X's run on TV is over. 4Kids's influence on Shadow, Rush, and other recent games is due to 4Kids actively wanting Sonic X (AKA, they barged into Sega's doors), and seeing the opportunity (and Bristow's death also being an influence), they let 4Kids take care of the games and Sonic X simultaneously instead of swap back and forth on the anime and game VA's. Sonic's new, darker, attitude also gives Sega the opprotunity to ditch 4Kids after this cycle of games.

Next-Gen:
There were two builds there. The Xbox 360 build was 85% completed and is the most recent version from Sega. By comparision, one of the reps informed me the Live Marketplace demo was essentially an updated E3 build. The X360 version is still set for November something-teen, while the PS3 version is set for Winter 2006 (not a launch title). The PS3 version was present at 75% completition. It was the TGS build, but played identical to the X360 build.

The demo consisted of Kingdom Valley with the ruins and wind grinding we've all seen at this point. Sonic, Shadow , and Silver were all playable. I personally haven't played any previous versions (including the Live demo), but I was particulary pleased with what I played. Knowing well in advance about the change in homing attack, I personally found it worked out rather nice. Although it still needs tweaking, I found it being more natural and graceful for Sonic being at the height of the attack before pulling off another. It seems slower, but more fluid than the infinite homing attack of pwnage of previous games. The control needs some tweaking at max speed, as a slight shift when runnning at full sends Sonic swinging in either direction. Sonic's sliding attack needs work, as I was gliding over the stone like it was ice for 10 seconds without slowdown. Camera worked out much better than I expected, with only occasional problems when playing as Silver.

Shadow's stage worked out additionally wel, but control on Shadow himself needs work. In one sequence I had to smash a stained glass window open. I used Attack to make Shadow go through the whole breakdance kick sequence, but the glass didn't break until the very last clip of the animation, with the glass not moving until then. Also, I'm not sure if this is intended or not, but every Chaos Spear I threw thrusted me in the air even higher. I could do this forever to save myself from falling to death, even with no enemies around. The homing attack on Shadow also seemed to be a bit more refined than on Sonic, requiring less wait time for the next attack to chain. Getting enough crystal energy let Shadow use the Chaos Control/Blast special, turning him red.

Silver's stage was a mixed bag. I enjoyed grabbing all the crates and the bullets and throwing them back at the enemies. The bullets however, still need tweaking, as I grabbed a group of them, and a few more came right aftwerwards and didnt get grabbed.

All of this came from the Digital Life Expo.

So, no more 4Kids after SatSR? Good news, I think. Though I highly doubt they'll return to the Adventure/Heroes cast. Doubtful we'll stil have Rouge sounding like a 40 year-old woman.

So basically, they ditched the original cast and replaced them for about a year or so with 4Kids guys, only to dump them and get another new cast?
The business world; It all makes perfect sense.

Though having said that, I do suppose that this gives Sega a chance to step up to the plate and hit a homerun by hiring some high profile guys to voice the characters. Of course, I don't expect this to be too likely, but it's nice to dream dream. Case in point;
Gilbert Gottfried to voice Cream the Rabbit in future Sonic the Hedgehog installments!

Gee always with the humor. Anyway if this is true..... why not just rehire the old cast? Is Ryan and the others still mad at them for firing them without telling them? If so I guess it be wise to get new VA's....Jaleel White for Sonic! Just joking.

Gilbert Gottfried should be Vector...just imagine....

Wes, it doesn't seem likely they'll rehire the Adventure/Heroes cast. Think about it...

Sega: We're firing you because you're too expensive and annoying.
Adventure Cast: WTF?! Screw you Sega, we'll go qork elsewhere.
*later*
Sega: We want you back now. Nw the others guys are too annoying and expensive.
Adventure Cast: No wai!!111

Not exactly how it happened, but you get the point.

All I wonder is if Sega do get entirely new VA's... again... will they even be good? Or will they be similar to the past VA's.... again.

MUHAHAH!!!!
Well... I preferred the 4Kids VA's I don't want David Humphrey back, I want J.Griff to stay...

On the plus side, those annoying G.U.N agents will be going...

I dunno. I highly doubt that to be proof. Sounds more like speculation. o_O Lots of franchises have shows that end but continue to pump games out with the same cast used. 4Kids is especially a company known to want to pump out as much as they can in order to get money.

If this is indeed true, I hope that instead of rehiring the old VAs they get some new ones, preferrably professional voice actors. Here's a list of some people I think would be good for the parts, not that it'll ever happen considering what cheap *insert expletive here* Sega of America are. You can find all of them via the Internet Movie Database in case you're wondering what they've done voiceover wise.

Sonic: James Arnold Taylor
Tails: B.J. Ward (the female one, not the male one)
Knuckles: Quinton Flynn
Amy: Cathy Cavadini
Cream: Tara Strong
Eggman: Earl Boen
Shadow: Cam Clarke
Rouge: Vanessa Marshall
Everybody Else: I don't care, as long as they don't suck. =P

Out of all of those, I've only heard of Tara Strong; and that's only because I was looking up Teen Titans and Fairly Odd Parents on Wikipedia yesterday. However, she IS a good VA and could voice more than just Cream very well. Doubt she'll be there though.

So you want Sonic to be Tidus/Ratchet/KHII JackSparrow, ok... not bad, irritating, but he is a good VA and we could do worse... like Jason Griffith... again, god I hate his voice, but I say keep Leo/Atemu/Johnny Knuckles, WE need Dan Green Knuckles....

Dan Green SUCKS as Knuckles. o_O Knuckles isn't meant to sound like a 34 year old man. Neither his US Sega or 4Kids VAs could grasp that concept.

THERE'S NO $50 HERE!
The candy looks too sweet, I'm not going to fall for this.

Besides, even if Secret Rings is the last 4Kids dubbed project (by which I will say "Thank you Jesus, Buddha, Moses and Krishnu!") this news is highly ineffectual, as the 360/PS3 Sonic (which is becoming Sonic Adventure 3 essential when you look at how it's turning out) is probably affected too.

Besides, at this point it's Japanese voices or bust.

Though in a snowball's chance in hell, I would love to have Ryan, David and Lani back in the game again. So I can stop crying when I play Sonic Heroes.

If you re-check, 54Spindash reposted that not having 4Kids VAs was not confirmed, it just that it would make sense, as Sonic Xs run is over, so continuity between the games and show is no longer nessecary.

Compared to SA/SA2 and SH Knuckles, he does one heck of a good job, Dan is the best VA he has had, geez, if I had my way, they would all have Aussie accents, as they come from Christmas Island. I just found that the big booming voice of Dan Green stayed in the character for the current Knuckles.

With more thought, the following I agree with.
Sonic: James Arnold Taylor
Knuckles: Quinton Flynn
Rouge: Vanessa Marshall
I am sad to say it, but I am happy with most of the 4kiddies VAs for Sonic...

Best new ever today!

I keep picturing Drummond in the new Sonic game's voice, Jason you are AWFUL as Sonic, even I can honestly do Ryan's Sonic spot on...Jason doesn't sound a thing like the pre-established voice.

Can someone please go to ryandrummonds myspace or something and please tell him about this, Ryan is seriously THE perfect English Sonic, and I was disheartened to learn when he was replaced.

tell him, I did.

um his US voice actor was fine, don't dictate what Knuckles is suppose to sound like. His japanese va was annoying as hell, so was tail's.

Sonic Rouge and Eggman have awesome Japanese VAs.

Scott, the US voice, had the calm cool collected and carefree attutide sass in Knuckles voice that was SORELY missing from Dan Green's AWFUL rendition of the Knuckles voice.

The only one I really liked from 4Kids was Lisa Ortiz, because her genric voice she used for everything sounded just like Jennifer Dullard.
