Nostalgia and Pokemon...

Ah, the beautiful feeling of nostalgia. Though most people bash nostalgia, for some, it's the best feeling in the world (especially in Pokemon), which leads me to the question: What wacky/stupid/sad things have you done in your Pokemon games because of that pesky nostalgia?

For example: When Leaf Green came out I was determined to play the game through my second time EXACTLY like Ash Ketchem (Weird huh?)

I've proclaimed that the first generation is somehow superior to the current generation for no well explained reason, despite it being very buggy and unbalanced, with unimaginative evolutions (make it bigger! or change the color!) and that somehow being a actual nice guy makes you unqualified to be a rival, because Green and Silver were jerks so everyone else has to be despite that not actually being the definition of rival.

You know what bothers me? People who don't like people who don't like the older generations better. Calm down. Opinions are just that, opinions. If someone likes the newer series, great, if someone likes the older series, great too, everyone values something different. You are not any more right than anyone else because Pokemon means something different for everyone.

I liked the simplistic design the first gen had and because I was around when pokemon first came out I still have the fond memories of the 151 originals and pokemon was a brand new thing so of course we where excited, the 151 where the best because they where done out of the blue with no previous generations to beat or go by, and original designs, some of the newer ones may seem "cooler" but they wouldn't exist if it weren't for people liking the originals so much back in the day that the creators decided to keep making newer pokemon.
And yes some of the newer gen pokemon suck a-ss, If you want fierce complicated looking pokemon why not just switch to Yugioh or Digimon all together. I like Pokemon for being simplistic & cute.

Now to answer your question, I don't do anything because of nostalgia I simply play every game the same, get through the story with what ever pokemon are available.

Nostalgia is a great thing but since I'm not watching/playing the first generations I forgot about it. I can't play more the first generation games since the quality is not good as now.

Anyway, yes i like nostalgia, having pokemon Blue, Pkmn Stadium, the first 151 pokemon, how awesome some pokemon were the first time i saw them, training in the Dodrio tower with these tunes playing super fast, and then i couldn't get them out of my head! That cartoon smell of the box, getting these silly toys that were everywere because it was NEW, and all sort of memories.

The only crazy stuff i have done is playing one of these Scramble challenges in pokemon Blue with a very special person. Swallowing these horrible graphics for today, but enjoying it anyway.

That doesn't make the games any better, but if you lived it you know it was special.

The bugs in the game are generally considered to be a positive, it is great being able to catch Safari Zone exclusive pokemon on the coast of cinnibar. The 'unbalancedness" isn't that big of a deal it is still better to use a variety of types to beat the game and all 3 single type psyhics (not counting legendaries) only one is OU. The evolutions being just bigger versions is true of most evolutions in most gens and there isn't anything wrong with having evolutions look like what they evolved from. The rival comment is completely pointless, who cares about their personality.

There is nothing wrong with the 1st gen that makes the games bad. You can argue that the newer games may be better for new features but that doesn't stop the originals from beig excellent games.

Wow someone on Serebii with some brains and Maturity, i like what this post says cuz its all mostly true, most people have seen or played the original Pokemon Blue/Red/Yellow...but since most people nowadays are spoiled with fancy graphics, story plots, and game mechanics, they shouldnt forget that the original was the basis for all of the future generations...lets not forget what made Pokemon, well...POKEMON. the simplicity that kids could play it, and strategic enough for older audiences as well. Of course the first generation wasnt THE BEST!!! OMG!!!! of course it got some enhancements throughout time, im not saying its the best. but each generation had its ups and downs.Some people dont appreciate Nostalgia, because of their own opinions, but i do, i like the games nowadays, and sometimes i pick up my old gameboy with Yellow version and remember all the good times i had especially with friends, competing to see who could catch Mewtwo first or other stupid stuff..i even laugh becuase it was so glitchy and buggy. but a game is meant to do one thing and that is to entertain.

o and for the topic, i used to get me and my bro and supposedly he was Red and i was Blue and we had cable battles, lol good times...

I counted down to the Release of HG/SS from about
day 38... *Embarassed* and it's not because of nostalgia of the
Second Gen, because I hadn't played much of that Gen at all,
it's mostly because everyone else was so excited about it
'cause of their own nostalgia, and that was kind of transplanted to me.

Granted, it is useful to know how we got certain aspects into the newer games.

I did enjoy the older games, but honestly, I very much prefer the ease of access and great additions to the newer ones.

From what I hear most people like the way the bugs allow you to cheat I have never heard anyone complain about missingno being in the game. Maybe I'm just not with it anymore though.

People can do with the glitches as they please; that's not the point.

The point is that they are glitches - unintentional programming errors. To try and use them as a point in favor of a game, any game, is absolutely ludicrous.
