Pretty much everything on that screen relates to the Mewtwo's Birth segment.

Did this rerun include the World of Pokemon segment that always gets cut from everything?
The stream started with Mewtwo waking up in the lab. It was essentially like they showed the theatrical cut of the film, only they still had all the CGI replacement shots from the home video release. Ergo, from where I am standing... This stream was the worst of both worlds. None of the added content from the Kanzenban, yet it did have the CGI shots that I consider across the board a step down from the hand-drawn shots. (How anyone thought the shot of Satoshi and the Pokémon walking through the smoke in the Kanzenban was anything but an obvious downgrade is entirely beyond me. They went from frame-by-frame-ing the Pokémon approaching the screen to just having essentially a bunch of gifs sliding across the screen.)

Do you mean "Satoshi's Journey"? Yep that got cut as well and no Pikachu short either. Very barebones rerun of the movie, but hey at least it was free haha
Maybe they aren’t pretending, maybe they actually think no one knows about the birth of Mewtwo.

Its sad how they're trying to pander to both old and new fans and then pull stuff like this. Its the same with the Piplup/Croagunk, Bulbasaur, and "Battle Frontier" episodes.

I've been very on and off with the anime. I'm curious to know more about these incidences so do tell me more please haha

Just watched the YouTube rerun of the first Mewtwo movie. They used the Kanzenban version but it looks like they went out of their way to cut the origin sequence, Amber/Aitwo scenes included. Guess this is the final nail in the coffin that we won't get a reference for her this episode :( oh well. Interested in seeing whether or not this episode will even acknowledge Mewtwo Returns given all the previews we've seen thus far.

I suppose that for the sake of simplicity, it's a good thing that Ai's scenes were cut from the recent first movie re-run considering that there was no implication that they'd use Ai in this episode, anyway. It's better to avoid confusing the younger audience by simply not showing her in the movie re-run so that they wouldn't expect to see her here.

Or it could have been censorship. Aside from making the movie kid-friendly I don't see how it would have made things any less confusing by cutting her out. Plus other users have stated they could just use Mewtwo's memory loss as an excuse (though that is something I could make an argument against but Ive already talked about my theory of Mewtwo's memories a million times so I wont go on again)

And that doesnt take into account Mewtwo Returns which has pretty much been confirmed to be referenced in this episode. So how are they going to explain Ash remembering Mewtwo to the new fans without having rerun that special? Thinking back it probably would have made much more sense to show Mewtwo Returns instead of MSB to promote the episode

But at least this Mewtwo is the one from movie 1 while that Piplup and Croagnuk were completly different character despite being rip-offs of the ones we know.
