Well for those of you that don't know what a monotype challenge is, it's where you use a team of only 1 type {Dual-types are allowed}. And you can't use two of the same species of pokemon and also no trading from other games either.

I will start a flying monotype challenge soon.

Hmm... sounds interesting. They did one of these in the R/B/G/Y forum, so why not do one here?

Well, I was thinking about starting my fire red over to get a Bulbasaur, so maybe I'll make a mono poison or grass team once I trade all my pokemon to safety on another game.

there was one of these open a while ago but it never took off... hope this one works a little better. i'm currently doing one in sapphire too (a grass one) and im glad i can do the same here. since i have both fire red and leaf green, i'll do both. i think for the leaf green i'll do a poison team. looking into the future my rough final team will include:

venusaur, nidoqueen, muk, weezing, gengar, and venomoth. other possibilities include tentacruel, crobat, and qwilfish... idk why but i kinda like qwilfish right now. movesets are still a little rough, so i'll post those as i make it a little further along.

and for my fire red game, i wanted to do flying but it seems like such an easy out, too many strong pokemon hold the flying type, so i think instead i'll try... ground. seems a little underrated to me, so we'll give it a go. rough team will include:

nidoking, golem, dugtrio, rhydon, marowak, and quagsire. subs include steelix, and donphan. again, as i move forward i'll post my progress with some movesets.

feel free for suggestions, i'll be posting soon!

Hubbs don't double post. And well, might as well post here since I started a mono poison team on my other FR.

Started out with Bulbasaur, forgot this was FR and couldn't catch the Nidorans untill after defeating Brock. After minute long swear a thon, go out, defeat pidgey. Defeat Rattata. Defeat Weedle. Defeat random bug trainers. Repeat Process untill Dokusei (my Bulba) learned Vine Whip. Fight Brock, defeat Brock, get TM, leave town.

Recive Running shoes.

Abuse them.

Fight more trainers, get lv 15 Bulba.

Spend 30 minuts running around to find Nidoran Male. Spend an hour after that searching for female before rememebering, in FR they are rare.

After another swear session, substitute female Nido for ironically, a female Zubat. Backtrack, defeat trainers I didn't fight to level up the two new pokemon, heal in pewter, head back to the route, head for mt. moon, get ready for alot of switch and bait battling to level up my Nidoran and Zubat.

-

Dokusei
Ivysaur
Male
LV 17
Vine Whip
Tackle
Leech Seed
Sleep Powder

Yuudoku
Nidoran male
LV 9
Leer
Focus Energy
Peck

Venin-Aile
Zuubat
Female
LV 9
Astonish
Leech Life

Also Shadow Blazer, you can't use more than ONE pokemon of the species. Meaning you could have a male and female nidoran, but not two male nidoran's, so probably meaning you could only have, ultimately, one pokemon of a species, wether or not fully evolved. You can also trade for a pokemon, but only if you're at the place where you could have gotten it in the other game, as Dan said in one of them, if you got to the game corner and say, you were in a Bug mono, you could buy Scyther/Pinser, and trade for the other. Or wait untill Safari Zone to trade over one. The rule is there to really prevent you from trading over a lv 100 pkmn and blazing through/winning the game easily.

alright well yesterday i said i'd do both firered and leafgreen and realizing that three games at once is overdoing it, i decided to drop firered and stick with leafgreen and sapphire, so im just gonna do a ground team. anywho, i chose charmander because after the challenge is completed i'd want a charizard more than blastoise or venusaur (and suicune for the dogs as well). so i levelled her up until she learned metal claw, had a tough time with brock so i got up a few more and then took him down, beat the bug trainers on my way to route 3 to find my first pokemon. took a long while but i caught a bunch of nidoran females and the best IV's and nature together were with my impish one, so i stuck with that. also was lucky enough to snag a nidoran male, and his nature was rash so i decided he would be my only special sweeper (flygon works well but isn't available to me). once i grabbed them, i entered mt. moon and found a few geodude, and the best IV/nature combo was the relaxed female, so i went with her. once i had my trio (20 pokeballs later), i ran back to pallet town, where tomorrow i'll begin getting them to a good level before i really tackle mount moon. i'm thinking, based on what i have, that the movesets for those three will be as follows:

nidoran (m)
7- rash
thunderbolt, ice beam, flamethrower, surf (his attack IV was really poor or I'd replace surf/flamethrower with megahorn)

nidoran (f)
7- impish
substitute, focus punch, earthquake, shadow ball (nature could be better but i think i'll get by here)

and geodude
9- relaxed
earthquake, rock blast, explosion, and double-edge (thankfully she had rock head too)

these three will have to carry me through to vermillion when i can add a diglett to my arsenal. thinking earthquake, tri attack (move relearner), aerial ace, and double team (?). not sure what to fill there, maybe toxic? suggestions welcome for that one. i'm pretty content with the nidos and geodude though so leave them be. also will add a cubone, rhyhorn, wooper, and phanpy eventually....

I started a team with only bug pokemon so I guess that will be my challenge.
Besides I caught a shiny paras so it should be good. Right now I am battling the underground Paras in Mt Moon. This is my team so far.
Pokemon Team:
Shiny Paras-Lv. 15
Beedrill-Lv. 15
Butterfree-Lv. 23
Fearow-Lv. 21
Geodude-Lv. 10

I am keeping Fearow and geodude until i find another bug pokemon which will take me a while because the next bug pokemon is in Fuscia City (Venonat and Scyther).

well, we began with my male and female nidoran, and a geodude from pallet town and really began training and getting through the game. not like i've made major headway, but at least the team is serious and the move sets are planned and all of that is out of the way. i battled my way through gary and levelled up the team evenly through the viridian forest, took down the remaining trainers and entered mt. moon. i'm going to wait until after i beat misty to evolve nidorina, which may mean holding off on training her past level 22 so she can learn body slam as a nidoqueen. nidorino can evolve after misty is beat. thrash isn't all that great, but better than any TM's i have right now so i'll probably let him learn that. and after geodude learned magnitude there was no one i couldn't beat in mt. moon. in fact, his moveset is almost exactly as it will be later on, the attacks will just be upgraded to more powerful versions of themselves. had a hard time deciding which fossil to grab, but in the end kabutops looks much cooler so i grabbed the dome fossil. i got all three of them up to level 19, and tomorrow ill spend some time to the north training against gary and the likes to get them ready for misty. i can can pretty much guaruntee that geodude won't get an attack in, so he's useless, but if he can he has mega punch now so that should hit hard. we'll see how it goes... on a side note, i checked the overall stats of both nidorino and nidorina, and nidorino has just a slight edge in total stats, kinda wish it was the other way around :-/

Then it's NOT a bug mono team. A Bug mono team is you using those three bugs of yours to battle. If they were still weedle and caterpie you could have been allowed to use the starter to train them up to Beedrill and Butterfree. But once you got them, you are supposed to DITCH the other pokemon.

So unless you get rid of Geodude and Fearow, you are not doing a bug mono.
