This show was far too short. The lack of episodes gave no room for good story and character developement that would have made it fantastic. Therefore, this show really doesn't warrant having it's own "Official Thread" at all, IMO.
You don't understand. Fooly Cooly is meta-fiction. Hidden in layers of metaphors (most of them sexual) is a coming of age story so profound and wacky that it could easily fill up a 26 episode space, but then it wouldn't be as unique, would it? This is my favorite show of all time. Ever. And, I have the unique ability to fully grasp the metaphors. (Actually, I had to watch the series several times, and read a few explanations on the side.) But now here I stand, a FLCL expert. If there are any questions as to the meaning of anything in the show, I'll be happy to respond. I may post a full explanation later.
A few fun facts: [SPOIL]Nearly every thing in the show is a sexual metaphor of some kind, which in turn represents the adult world. Look for themes with extreme flavors, representing different levels of maturity. Spicy and sour of course represent the emotionally frightening and new situation of puberty and the adult world. Haruko and Mamimi both try to push these flavors on him constantly. Sweet represents child hood, and Aamaro is quite fond of this flavor, however he hides it by drinking bitter drinks as well, bitter being the archetype of adulthood, an adult mask if you will. Aamaro is the foil to Haruko. Canti represents Noata's sexuality (will explain how if asked.) This show defines maturity as being able to come to terms with every part of your personality, all extreme feelings, and even immature qualities. FLCL would say that a kid who accepts the fact that they're a kid (Naota by the end of the series, and earlier than that his freind, Ninamori) is more mature than a biological adult who tries to hide their immature qualities (Aamaro.) Ninamori is a VERY important character in terms of the maturity metaphors.[/SPOIL]
I love this show.
