Official Fullmetal Alchemist Discussion

Considering FMA airs in the US tonight, I figured it'd be best to start this topic so that all the talk goes here once everyone's seen it. Episode discussions, anything. :x

Japanese FMA 01 Title: "One Who Challenges the Sun"
American FMA 01 Title: "To Challenge the Sun"
Japanese Airdate: October 04, 2003
American Airdate: November 06, 2004/November 11, 2004

Synopsis: As children, brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric used the clandestine science of Alchemy to try the unthinkable- resurrect their dead mother. They failed, unleashing an alchemic reaction that ripped their bodies apart. Four years later, Ed and Al are combing the country for a rumored stone that could amplify their alchemy and bring their bodies back to normal. And it appears they may have found it-in a strangely prosperous desert village where a priest controls the citizens with miracles and promissed resurrections.

Seen the English clips and they seem pretty darn good, with the exception of Ed's voice being incredibly wonky. The begining of the episode gives you a slight intro on how things came to be and then shifts to how things are currently. It'll explain what happened in their past in the next few episodes.

Wish I could be in the States to see the series in English, since it is one of the more universally liked series of the year. It's really really popular here in Japan, and hopefully the series will be able to mimic that popularity in the States.

Judging by the tremendous fan support there was for the fansubs I have no doubt that, with the episodes now airing on American TV, it'll be even bigger than it originally was when it was restricted to fansubs.

please wake up...
Oh god yes. o_O

I am totally going to watch this. It's worth watching all the way from the beginning: I wouldn't reccomend walking into the series midway. It's... quite confusing. I learned the hard way o_O;;;;;;;;

I learned about it, and I want to see the dub since I couldn't get my hands on any subbed. >_<

Hopefully they won't mutilate the other voices too much. Ed's sounds okay albeit deeper, and Al's is fine. I saw the video clips, so yeah... but I want to see Winry. XD

Edward Elric - Vic Mignogna
Alphonse Elric – Aaron Dismuke
Winry Rockbell – Caitlin Glass
Pinako Rockbell – Juli Erikson
Roy Mustang – Travis Willingham
Riza Hawkeye – Colleen Clinkenbeard
Maes Hughes – Sonny Strait
Lust – Laura Bailey
Gluttony – Chris Cason
Sir Cornello – Andy Mullins
Rose – Colleen Clinkenbeard
Trisha Elric – Lydia Mackey
King Bradley – Ed Blaylock
Gracia Hughes – Lauren Goode

May god help poor Armstrong since Chris Sabat's doing his voice. T__T;

Okay, saw the entire episode and I must say I am in love with the dub. o_O Everything was dead on to close to being the same as the original. My only problems would be that Al's voice tends to be drowned by the louder music, Ed's voice requires adjusting to, and they pronounced Leto (Let-oh) as Lee-toe. Other than that, it was all great.

And for those wondering, Ready Steady Go! which was the original second opening theme, will be played through the whole series as the opening. Contrary to popular belief, they actually didn't do a dub version of it or have L'Arc~en~Ciel do an English version. A first on FUNi's behalf since they usually dub the openings and endings.

Funamation's best dub to date and stuck close to the original script. They added small details that I can't help but think helped the audience.

I'm loving it so far. I thought FMA was way overrated but now, I know why many people like it.

The English dub is actually pretty accurate too and not much of the editting (though my brother has told me that only half or over a half of the original episode has been shown tonight as Episode 1).

Well I just saw it and I have mixed feelings.

For the most part I liked the dub. Edward's voice actually appeals to me more in the dub than it does in the original XD Now that's a scary first. I also luffed Al's voice, but it was too quiet. I think they need to turn the volume for him up or something. I mean, I know he's suppose to be in a suit of armor, but it's awfully quiet at times--especially in the next epy preview.

So far my rating? 8/10. It's really not a bad show, but until now I've only read manga scanlations and seen a few clips. There's also a few things in it that bug me, but other than that it's pretty good. I use to place Ed as my favorite of the two brothers, but watching a full epy changed that a little. I've never been a fan of science and Ed's too scientific for me XD *huggles Al* But Al's so adorable! Even if he is in a suit of armor.

Your brother's nuts. I've seen the entire series repeatedly and they kept just about everything intact. o_O Episode one starts off with Ed and Al doing the transmutation then jumps a few years ahead. It's like that in both languages.

Just finished watching it. Pretty good so far. I haven't really seen the subbed or original, so, this series is still pretty new to me. Can't wait for the next episode though....

Well, so far, so good. It's my first time seeing the anime and I'm real pleased. The real test for me: is when I find myself wondering what will happen in the next episode (and I really can't wait). Since I've never seen the series I can't know how well they kept the series intact from the original japanese translation.

Since I've seen the series about four times already (yes, I think we've established before that I have no life), I'll try to do episode comparrisons as well. Since episodes will be playing four times a week, it won't be hard to catch the episodes. Anyways, here's next week's episode title and info:

Japanese FMA 02 Title: "Body of Taboo"
American FMA 02 Title: "Body of the Sanctioned"
Japanese Airdate: October 11, 2003
American Airdate: November 13, 2004/November 18, 2004

Synopsis: What is the meaning of a miracle? Or compassion? Is it right to leave a girl and her village in blissful ignorance, or take away all their comforts for the sake of telling the "truth"? These are the questions Ed and Al must face, as they battle against the false prophet Cornello, who is using the science of alchemy and parading it as acts of God.

That is the best way to approach FMA. You'll be going 'OMG' more than once. ;)

Oh, and have I already told you how much I hate you all for having CN and being able to see it on TV? No? Well know you know. :p

I saw it about a half hour ago and I have to say its awsome! I've heard about it and have also heard its way over rated but i dont think so. I'm definetly going to continue watching the series.

Yay! I stayed up long enough to watch FMA(at Midnight); and it was pretty cool! This is the second episode I've watched; the first one being a sub of the final episode!(ironic, isn't it?) I kinda know the basic story; but I was shocked when Ed revealed his metal arm...Transmutation gone wrong indeed. I liked Al's voice, it was cute.^_^ My favorite part was when Ed went on a rampage for the size comments!:D I see a good future for this animé in the US...if fans are used to staying up late on the weekend!:p

Yeah, I saw as much as I could of FMA and it rocks!

I only got to see it up to the enterance of that gray lion type thing because I was in my dad's room and he wanted to sleep. The only TV left was in use to watch SNL's Presidential Debate special by my bro amnd mom. My mom's always interested in what I watch, but my brother was like, "Are you sure Christians like us will like it?" My response was, "Considering that all I know is it's about alchemy, science and 'sun gods'... no." So I watched SNL and decided to catch what I missed on Thursday.

Which sucks cause I wanted to see GitS too... never got to see a second of it.

Anyway, the much that I saw of the series really rocked! The main reason why I guess it because the animation and style so reminds me of Trigun, and Trigun's my favorite anime. (The same animators maybe?) I also like Ed's voice because he reminds me of InuYasha's voice. (Same VA maybe?) I found no similarity in the music of FMA to compare it to another anime, but the music still rocked out loud!

I had no problem listening to the voices over the music... thoguh I probably will Thursday because my dorm room TV has a verry effective built in surround sound. (When someone's off camera, it sounds like they're talking a foot away from the microphone.)

And so far Ed's my fave! Maybe its his attitude or maybe because he reminds me of InuYasha in voice and Vash in looks. Either way, I don't care! *huggles*
