Official New and Improved General Shiny Thread

Cute Charm increases the odds of finding the opposite gender. Lead your team with a male pokemon that has the Cute Charm ability, you will find more females. Lead with a female Cute Charmer, you'll find more males. I used a male Cute Charm lead to get my shiny female combee in Y, and to find a female HA heatmor in a durant horde so I could breed it shiny. It comes in very, very handy when you're trying to get females from pokemon with a very high ratio of males to females. Or male kirlia/female snorunt for their specific gender evolutions.

I'm up to 1,400 SRs for regice already. SRing a grounded target is soooooooooo much faster than soaring encounters.

So its kind of like Synchronize, only with abilities? Good to know. I guess that still makes Manaphy the undisputed hardest shiny to get

BTW guys, of the unobtainable shinies of Gen 7, which do you think is the one you most want available? For me, its Buzzwole due to its vibrant, watermelon-esque coloration

Hey everyone, long time no see. Congrats to the many shinies since my last post, I have no clue where I left off so blanket congrats. I have gotten a few shinies since I've been gone, but I'll just post my most recent.

I've gotten bitten by the Sun and Moon bug, I stayed awake until 3 am on the first day playing it. My very first shiny hunt was going to be SRing for a shiny Litten. I didn't think that it would take me very long to get, but before I knew it, I was over 2000 SRs with nothing to show for it. Last night I couldn't sleep very well, so I was quad SRing for shiny Litten. I was just about to finish up the last SR:

When THIS showed up. After 2204 SRs, shiny Litten appeared. I freaked out when it showed up, I had to bite the sleeve of my shirt so I didn't wake up the family XD. I was hoping to get a fast one but this hunt gave me a run for my money.

I'm now SRing for a shiny Rowlett in my other games. I haven't gotten very far yet, only 6 soft resets, but it'll be my next shiny hunt. I'll probably go after a second shiny Litten when Rowlett shines, but we'll see. For now though, I'll go back to playing the game.

Not abilities, genders. And not quite. With Synchronize you want the same nature as your synchronizer. With Cute Charm, you want the opposite gender. If you want a female pokemon, lead with a male Cute Charmer. For a male, use a female Cute Charm lead.

Still no shiny news (and I chained Emolga and Oricorio each for hours--still doing the latter). I will eventually get myself a shiny Oricorio, even if I have to EV every special attacker in the Alolan dex to do it.
As far as locked shinies I want...all the Tapus and Guzzlord. Gimme my Guzzlord GF! (Also still waiting for my shiny Zygarde...get on it guys!)

Very well done! That's a pretty humongous dedication there, I know how tiring it can get and I only did it trying to get a female with a good nature! I was going to SR for a shiny but decided to breed one instead.

I already have a few Pokemon I want to go after, namely Alolan Vulpix, Mimikyu, Cutiefly, Rockruff, and Oricorio I want a Salazzle too, but I think I'll have to mentally prepare myself for that one

I just finished SOS hunting for a shiny Pikipek while at work! This is my first shiny of Gen VII, so I'm pretty pumped. Even more funny since I work for an ecommerce site and today's Cyber Monday.
Took around 110 encounters (wasn't keeping exact track).

3rd time is the charm evidently! I have been SOS chaining for Bruxish.
1st time I fished for it, I found on in like 15 casts. About 200 fish in, I accidentally killed off my base fishie
2nd time, I don't reel in that @#$% fish until 90-ish casts (apparently its a 1% encounter rate unless you find the shimmering fishing spot and I didn't know this initially), finally reeled one in, and about 300 casts, I ran away >.<
3rd time, I read up, find the trick to getting it spawned and voila! Caught my shiny in under 10 casts. Well, I figure I had already put the footwork in

I was en route to meet the investigators for the next part of my UB missions, when I was running through the grass and triggered a Cutiefly. Since game info was leaked and we saw this one, I decided I WOULD have this shiny I had plenty of Leppa berries, so I decided to SOS away Probably took 150 encounters. Named Bean just because its cute I'm doing SOS chains for the fun shinies- waiting til the Pokebank is patched in to do the heavy hitters.

Is it easier to get shinies on gen 7?

I've been breeding to complete a living dex. Hatched two Popplios, one of which was shiny. The next day I hatched one Petilil, which happened to be shiny.

My Ditto is from a different country, so that increase the odds. Although I haven't got my Shiny Charm yet.

if you don't have the shiny charm that is normal as the threshold is about 500, if you do have the shiny charm you are just a bit unlucky. (I'm pretty sure)

This Mimikyu hunt is testing me... for an MM hunt anyway, I am at over 600 eggs now!

So, I just hatched my first self-obtained shiny in generation VII. I was not really even going for a shiny.
I was just hatching eggs to get trade fodder for other 5/6 IV Pokémon, and one shined.

It was a female Turtonator. Time to go check her IV's. If not the right spread, I will most likely just Hyper Train her.
Here are her IV's. x/31/31/31/31/31. I will take it. Her HP IV is "Very good." Yay. She is also everstoned Modest and is in a repeat ball.
Time to finish hatching this group of eggs and then EV train her. Woo.

I suppose this means Community Hunt Complete.

EDIT: So I was doing the very same thing with my Turtonators, except with a different Pokémon. Just hatching a group to get some high IV ones for trading.
Then one shined.

It is a shiny Litten.
Time to check its IVs. Its IV spread is 31/x/31/31/31/31. If this were last generation, man, would I be irritated. I am SO Hyper Training this guy once I train him.
He is everstoned Adamant with the egg moves Crunch and Fake Out. Despite that Attack IV, he should still be good, even better once I use one of my bottle caps on that stat.

I found two Tauros in a horde on Y. Oddly enough, I wasn't horde hunting. It was a random encounter that happened to be a horde.

Are we sure the Shiny Charm affects SOS hunts? I thought SOS was independent of the Shiny Charm.

I assume it would, SOS encounters are affected by things like Cute Charm and Synchronize, I haven't heard anyone say otherwise and all my SOS chains have been under 500 with the shiny charm... I might go and try to confirm it but I doubt that it would be unaffected by the charm.

on another note, 270 eggs later I got my Shiny Mareanie :3
